Campgrounds near Colonial Park, Pennsylvania
Colonial Park sits in the suburbs east of Harrisburg in Dauphin County, central Pennsylvania, putting RV travelers within a short drive of Hershey, Lancaster County's Pennsylvania Dutch country, and the Gettysburg battlefields. The area is well served by I-81, I-83, and US 322, which makes the campgrounds northeast of the capital practical bases for multi-stop family trips.
Harrisburg East Campground is the closest full-service RV park, a private campground just off Eisenhower Boulevard with full hookups, a pool, and easy interstate access. Hersheypark Camping Resort, an official Hershey resort property, has been operating since 1963 with more than 300 sites, 50 cabins, and two tiny homes spread across roughly 55 acres of rolling terrain. Camp Hebron in Halifax offers wooded sites along Powell's Creek on a 340-acre Christian retreat property north of the city. Farther east, Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday and Hershey Road Campground round out the cluster of options serving the Hershey and Harrisburg corridor.
Things to do near Colonial Park
Hersheypark is the headline attraction, an amusement park that operates from spring weekends through Hersheypark Christmas Candylane in early January. Guests staying at Hersheypark Camping Resort receive free front-gate shuttle service plus extra park hours through the Sweet Start and Preview Plan benefits. ZooAmerica, Hershey Gardens, and Hershey's Chocolate World are within the same complex.
In Harrisburg itself, families can tour the Pennsylvania State Capitol, the National Civil War Museum, and the Susquehanna riverfront. Wildwood Park and the Capital Area Greenbelt offer paved trails for walking and cycling. The Appalachian Trail crosses Peters Mountain just north of the city, and Gettysburg and Lancaster County's Amish farmland are each about 45 minutes away.

Outdoor pools at the private resorts typically open in late May and run through Labor Day weekend.
Shoulder seasons are productive. Spring weekends at Hersheypark begin in early April, and fall brings cooler nights, lower humidity, and foliage through October. Hersheypark Christmas Candylane operates on select dates from mid-November into early January, drawing winter campers to the area.
Winter narrows the field. Camp Hebron's campground is open mid-April through mid-October only. Harrisburg East Campground and Hersheypark Camping Resort stay open year-round, though water service at some sites can be limited during extended hard freezes. Snowfall in the Harrisburg area averages roughly two feet per year, with most accumulation falling between December and March.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Colonial Park, PA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Colonial Park, PA?
Renting an RV in Colonial Park is more affordable than most travelers expect. Nightly rates on RVezy typically start around $90 to $130 for travel trailers, $140 to $200 for Class C motorhomes, and $200 to $300 for larger Class A motorhomes. To score a cheap RV rental in Colonial Park, book midweek (Sunday through Thursday), travel in shoulder seasons like late April or October, and use the price filter to sort by budget. Avoid Hershey's biggest event weekends (Hersheypark in the Dark and the America's Largest RV Show in mid-September) when local rates spike. Booking 6 to 8 weeks ahead usually lands the best balance of selection and price.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Colonial%20Park%2C%20PennsylvaniaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Colonial Park, PA?
Good news: for nearly every RV rental in Colonial Park, your standard Pennsylvania (or out-of-state) driver's license is all you need. PennDOT only requires a non-commercial Class B license for single vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, and a non-commercial Class A for heavy combinations. The vast majority of motorhomes, campervans, and travel trailers on RVezy fall well under that limit. You'll need to be 25 or older to rent, and the platform verifies your ID securely during checkout. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home auto association before flying in and you're set to roll.
pa.gov/agencies/penndot/driver-and-vehicle-services/driver-licensing.htmlWhat protection is included with my RV rental in Colonial Park, PA?
Every RV rental in Colonial Park comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built right into your booking, so you can hit Route 322 with peace of mind. During checkout you choose the protection level that fits your trip, and that plan covers most damage to the RV during your rental. If a tire blows near Hershey or you need a tow outside Harrisburg, one call to RVezy support gets help dispatched. Most first-time renters tell us this is the moment they finally relax and start enjoying the trip.

Booking an RV in Colonial Park is genuinely low-risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy across the platform, not individual hosts. There is a grace period after booking where you can get a full refund, and additional refund tiers apply depending on how far in advance you cancel before your trip start date. RVezy also factors in extraordinary circumstances like natural disasters or severe weather. If plans change, just open your booking in your RVezy account and follow the cancellation steps, or message support. Book early to lock in the best Hershey-area RVs, knowing you have flexibility if plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Colonial Park, PA?
Yes, pet-friendly RV rentals in Colonial Park are easy to find on RVezy: just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you will see hosts who welcome your four-legged co-pilot. Many include extras like washable seat covers or leash hooks, and a pet fee (if any) is disclosed upfront in the listing. Once you arrive, Pennsylvania state parks allow leashed pets at designated pet-friendly campsites, including nearby Gifford Pinchot State Park and Memorial Lake State Park. For day adventures, Wildwood Park in Harrisburg has dog-friendly trails just minutes from Colonial Park. Message the host before booking to mention your pet's size and breed; it speeds approval and lets the host prep the RV for a furry guest.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Colonial%20Park%2C%20Pennsylvania&Features=PetFriendlyCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Colonial Park?
Yes, RV delivery in Colonial Park is one of the most popular options for first-timers and families. Many local hosts will deliver, level, and set up the motorhome right at your campsite, whether you are booked at Hershey RV and Camping Resort, Hershey/Jonestown KOA, or Gifford Pinchot State Park. They will connect water, power, and sewer hookups, then walk you through every system before leaving. To find hosts who offer this, use the Delivery filter when searching. Delivery fees are usually a flat rate plus mileage and are shown clearly before you book. Delivery is a game-changer if you are flying into Harrisburg International Airport (MDT), just a short drive from Colonial Park, since you can skip the rental drive entirely.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008794-Delivery-optionsHow far can I drive on an RV rental from Colonial Park, PA?

Popular Colonial Park RV trip destinations within an easy day's drive include Hershey (about 10 miles), Gettysburg National Military Park (about 50 miles), Lancaster's Amish Country (about 40 miles), Knoebels Amusement Resort (about 70 miles), and the Pocono Mountains (about 95 miles). Want to stretch further? Washington D.C. is about 130 miles south. Any per-mile overage rate is clearly listed in your booking. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Colonial%20Park%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhere are the best campgrounds near Colonial Park, PA?
There are several great campgrounds near Colonial Park. Hershey RV and Camping Resort (about 9 miles east) puts you minutes from Hersheypark with full hookups and a pool. Hershey/Jonestown KOA (about 25 miles northeast) is family-friendly with pull-thru sites. Hershey/Lebanon South KOA and Elizabethtown-area parks offer 50-amp service and are big-rig friendly. For state-park RV camping near Colonial Park, Gifford Pinchot State Park (about 20 miles west) has a large lake and many RV-friendly sites, and Memorial Lake State Park inside Fort Indiantown Gap (about 20 miles north) is a quiet local favorite. Book Hershey-area campgrounds 3 to 6 months ahead for summer weekends; state-park sites release through the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Colonial Park, PA?
Late April through mid-October is prime season for RV camping in Colonial Park, with the sweet spot being September and early October, when daytime highs sit in the 65 to 75 degree range, humidity drops, and the Appalachian foliage turns brilliant. Summer (June through August) brings warm 80 to 88 degree days, lush green scenery, and full access to Hersheypark and Knoebels, but expect humidity and busier campgrounds. Spring shoulder season (April to May) is mild and quiet with blooming dogwoods. Winter dips into the 20s and 30s with occasional snow, and many area campgrounds close November through March. Book the last weekend of September for peak foliage while dodging the September RV Show crowds in Hershey.
weather.gov/ctp/I'm a first-time renter, will I know how to operate the RV?
Yes, you will be set up for success even if it is your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host in Colonial Park provides a full walkthrough at pickup (or at delivery), covering the propane system, slide-outs, water tanks, generator, awning, and dump valves. Most walkthroughs take 30 to 45 minutes, and hosts welcome questions; many also leave a printed cheat sheet inside the RV. You can message your host anytime during the trip if something stumps you, and RVezy's 24/7 support line is always one tap away. For your first Pennsylvania RV trip, choose a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer; they drive more like a large van and handle Harrisburg-area roads with ease.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002253193-RentersWhat happens if something goes wrong with my RV on the road?
You are never on your own. Every RV rental in Colonial Park includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing if needed. If you are stranded on I-81, I-83, or the PA Turnpike, one call dispatches help; if you are at a campground like Gifford Pinchot or Hershey RV Resort, the same hotline applies. Your host is also reachable through the RVezy app for quick fixes (like resetting the generator or troubleshooting the water pump), and RVezy customer support steps in for anything bigger. Save the roadside assistance number to your phone before pickup and snap a photo of the RV's VIN; it speeds up any call.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Colonial Park RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcomed by most hosts in Colonial Park, and an RV road trip from Colonial Park easily opens up Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, New York, New Jersey, and Delaware (all within a half-day's drive). Popular loops include Gettysburg to Shenandoah National Park (about 200 miles) and a Finger Lakes run to New York (about 220 miles). Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and insurance, so message the host directly from the listing before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Mention your full route up front; hosts often suggest scenic detours and trusted overnight stops.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much will fuel cost for an RV trip from Colonial Park?
Fuel is one of the easiest costs to budget for. Pennsylvania gas prices typically run around $3.30 to $3.80 per gallon, and Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG while smaller campervans deliver 16 to 20 MPG. For a 4-day, 400-mile loop from Colonial Park to Gettysburg, Lancaster, and back, expect roughly $130 to $170 in fuel for a Class C. Diesel pushers are pricier per gallon but stretch further on highway miles. Fill up before leaving the Harrisburg area; stations along I-81 and Route 22 tend to be cheaper than those right off the PA Turnpike. Apps like GasBuddy and the Pilot/Flying J app routinely save RVers 20 to 40 cents per gallon along the Susquehanna corridor.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Colonial Park?
For the smoothest Colonial Park RV trip, reserve campgrounds early. Pennsylvania State Parks (Gifford Pinchot, Memorial Lake, Caledonia, French Creek) open reservations on an 11-month rolling window through the official Pennsylvania State Parks reservation portal, and summer weekend sites near Hershey often fill within days of release. Private parks like Hershey RV and Camping Resort and the Hershey-area KOAs accept bookings 6 to 12 months out, and they sell out fast for July 4th, Memorial Day, Labor Day, and the September RV Show. Midweek and shoulder-season sites are typically available 2 to 4 weeks ahead. If you strike out on Hershey-area sites, try Hershey/Jonestown KOA or Lickdale Campground off I-81 exit 90; both are about 25 minutes away and often have openings.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are local driving conditions like around Colonial Park, PA?
Driving an RV around Colonial Park is very manageable, even for newer drivers. The area is suburban Harrisburg, with wide roads, gentle rolling terrain, and easy access to I-83, I-81, US 22, and the PA Turnpike (I-76). Avoid narrow downtown Harrisburg streets and the historic stone bridges in Lancaster's Amish country with anything over 11 feet tall; stick to numbered routes instead. Winter (December through February) can bring snow and ice on Blue Mountain and along I-81 north toward Scranton, so check 511PA before heading out. Summer thunderstorms can roll through quickly in July and August. The Linglestown Road (Route 39) corridor between Colonial Park and Hershey is one of the most RV-friendly routes, avoiding low bridges and tight turns.
511pa.com/What hookups and amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Colonial Park?
You will find excellent campground infrastructure around Colonial Park. Private parks like Hershey RV and Camping Resort and Hershey/Jonestown KOA offer full hookups (30/50-amp electric, water, sewer), Wi-Fi, laundry, and dump stations on-site. Pennsylvania State Parks such as Gifford Pinchot and Memorial Lake offer electric sites with potable water spigots nearby and centralized dump stations, plus modern restrooms and showers in warmer months. To refill fresh water or dump tanks mid-trip, many Flying J and Pilot locations along I-81 near Harrisburg have RV service lanes. Arrive at your site before 4 p.m.; setting up hookups in daylight your first night is far less stressful than fumbling with a flashlight.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Pages/default.aspxWhat's included inside a typical RV rental in Colonial Park, PA?
Colonial Park RV rentals come loaded for a comfortable trip. Most listings include a queen or king bed plus convertible dinette and sofa sleepers (sleeping 4 to 8), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, and a wet or dry bath with toilet and shower. Air conditioning, furnace heat, and propane are standard, and many motorhome rentals include a generator, TV, and outdoor awning. Wi-Fi hotspots, backup cameras, and seatbelted seating for travel are common on newer models. Cookware, linens, and camp chairs vary by host but are listed clearly on each page. Filter by features like Generator or Pet-Friendly upfront so you only see RVs that match your Pennsylvania trip plan.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Colonial%20Park%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhat add-ons can I get with my Colonial Park RV rental?
Hosts in Colonial Park offer a wide menu of optional add-ons to make your trip easier. Common extras include linen and bedding packages, kitchen kits, outdoor furniture, propane refills, bike racks, portable grills, generators, and Wi-Fi hotspots. Many hosts also offer delivery and setup (priced by distance), pre-stocked groceries, and even pre-arrival campsite booking help for Hershey or Gettysburg trips. Pickup is usually from the host's home in the greater Harrisburg/Colonial Park area, with a 30 to 45 minute walkthrough; drop-off is at the same spot unless you have arranged delivery. Mileage policies are listed on each listing. Bundle delivery plus a linens package for a true turnkey experience, especially if you are flying into MDT.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Colonial%20Park%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book an RV rental in Colonial Park, you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card; no cash or off-platform transfers needed. A security deposit hold is placed on your card before pickup (the amount is shown clearly on the listing and varies by RV value). As long as the RV is returned in the same condition with no policy violations, the hold is released after your trip. To avoid issues, take date-stamped photos and a short video of the interior and exterior at both pickup and drop-off, return with the agreed fuel and propane levels, and stay within your mileage allowance. Keep all communication inside the RVezy app; it creates a clear record if any question comes up later.
