Campgrounds and RV parks near Colwyn, PA

Central Philadelphia is roughly twenty minutes from the closest campground. Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, Citizens Bank Park, and Lincoln Financial Field are all easy day trips, and the cheesesteak shops of South Philly are a short ride from Colwyn itself. Families often pair a city day with the Philadelphia Zoo or the Franklin Institute. On the campground side, activities skew toward pool and lake time. The Clarksboro KOA offers cornhole, horseshoes, ladder ball, a jumping pillow, a playground, a catch-and-release pond, an off-leash dog park, and a picnic pavilion. Lake Kandle has supervised swimming at the lake, an activity pool, and an Olympic-size pool, along with kayaking or canoeing, a snack bar, and a covered pavilion, and Old Cedar adds a swimming pool, two fishing areas, miniature golf, pickleball, and frisbee golf.

The core RV season in the Delaware Valley runs from spring through early fall. Several nearby parks reflect that: Old Cedar Campground is open April 15 to October 15, Lake Kandle opens on the last Friday of April and closes on the first Sunday of October, and Four Seasons in Pilesgrove is open February 1 to December 31. The Clarksboro KOA is the outlier: the South Jersey KOA is open all year, which makes it the practical choice for off-season stays. Summer is peak. School-holiday weekends and the Fourth of July fill sites weeks in advance, and many parks in the area lean heavily on seasonal leases, so nightly inventory is limited. Due to strong demand for seasonal camping, Lake Kandle has no sites available on a nightly basis for the 2026 season, which is typical of the private parks in this belt. Spring and fall are quieter and cooler, with lower demand and better site selection. Winter stays are possible at the KOA but expect cold nights, occasional snow, and closed pools and outdoor recreation.

These are suburban and rural private parks, not national or state park campgrounds. Expect grassy or wooded sites, paved or gravel roads, and camp stores stocked with firewood, ice, and propane. Upgraded RV sites and cabins are common at the KOA, and Four Seasons in Pilesgrove accepts big rigs, has pull-throughs, and offers full hookups on most of its sites. Amenities are family-focused: swimming pools, playgrounds, fishing ponds, mini golf, and organized weekend activities. Lake Kandle strictly prohibits pets on the premises and does not allow tent camping, so confirm pet and rig-type rules before booking. Traffic between the campgrounds and central Philadelphia can be heavy on weekday mornings and around sporting events, so plan city visits accordingly.
