Overview of campgrounds near Conashaugh Lakes
Conashaugh Lakes is a small census-designated place in Dingman Township, Pike County, Pennsylvania, set in the wooded hills just west of the Delaware River. The area sits inside the broader footprint of Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, managed by the National Park Service, which provides access to tranquil landscapes and 40 miles of the longest free-flowing river east of the Mississippi. Camping options within a short drive range from a National Park Service concession campground on the river to privately operated resorts geared toward RV families.
The closest developed option is Dingmans Campground, a 65-acre, 134-site rustic campground situated along the Delaware River in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, operated as an NPS concessionaire. Kittatinny Campgrounds and its K-Camp Campground add river-focused sites paired with paddling outfitters. Timothy Lake North RV rounds out the mix with lake-oriented family camping in the surrounding Poconos.
Road access runs along Route 209 and the local Dingmans Ferry corridor, putting the McDade Recreational Trail, boat launches, and several waterfalls within a few miles of most sites.
Things to do near Conashaugh Lakes
The 32-mile McDade Trail runs through the front entrance of Dingmans Campground and links a string of river access points, historic farms, and picnic areas that work well for day trips with kids or bikes. Paddling on the Delaware is a defining activity in this corridor, with Kittatinny Campgrounds operating canoe, kayak, raft, and tube trips that launch from the river.
Hiking near Conashaugh Lakes includes the Conashaugh View Trail, a moderate 5.7-mile route in Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area with about 708 feet of elevation gain, typically taking 2.5 to 3 hours. The loop is shared with horseback riders and passes views of the Delaware River and the Kittatinny Ridge in New Jersey. Waterfall stops at Dingmans Falls, Silverthread Falls, and Raymondskill Falls are all within a short drive.
Fishing, swimming, and boat launching on the Delaware round out the list, with a launch located at Dingmans Campground itself.

The Delaware Water Gap corridor has a warm-summer, snowy-winter climate. Dingmans Campground operates seasonally from April 1 through October 15, which sets the practical camping window for the closest NPS-managed site. Late spring and early summer bring higher river flows that favor paddling, while July and August are peak booking months, and the campground is often booked well in advance for summer weekends.
Fall brings cooler nights, lower humidity, and hardwood color across the Pocono ridges through September and October. Rain is spread across the year, but summer thunderstorms and remnants of tropical systems can push river levels up quickly, so paddlers should check gauges before launching. Lifejackets are mandatory when the river reaches 8 feet or above at the Montague gauge, and river accesses close at 15 feet or above.
Winter shuts down most riverside camping. Roads inside Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area remain open for day-use hiking and cross-country skiing, but expect snow, ice, and limited services from December into March.
How to book campgrounds near Conashaugh Lakes
Dingmans Campground takes reservations online through its own website or by phone at (570) 828-1551, not through Recreation.gov. Riverside campsites typically require multi-night minimums on weekends and holidays, and full payment is due when the reservation is made. Interagency Senior and Access Pass holders may receive a discount applied at check-in.
Walk-up sites are sometimes available on the day of arrival, but the campground is very popular during the tourist season, so advance booking is recommended for any summer weekend. Kittatinny Campgrounds, its K-Camp Campground, and Timothy Lake North RV are private operations with their own online booking systems and cancellation policies.
RV renters should confirm site length, hookup type, and dump-station access before locking in dates, since many sites in the corridor are rustic rather than full-hookup.
What to expect on the ground
Dingmans Campground is a dry facility and a cellular dead zone, operated under National Park Service concession rules. Sites are wooded, with picnic tables and fire rings, and RV sites are nestled in the forest with water and electrical hookups on-site and central dump stations located near the bathhouses. An onsite general store sells snacks, supplies, and souvenirs, and bike rentals are available.
There are 134 campsites at Dingmans, with 86 for tent camping only (including all riverside sites), 10 reserved for RVs, and the rest open to both tents and RVs. Kittatinny's K-Camp and Kittatinny Campgrounds lean toward group and family camping tied to river trips, while Timothy Lake North RV is a more resort-style property with lake access.
Expect bears, so food storage discipline is required, and bring bug protection from late spring through early fall.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Conashaugh Lakes RV rental to New York or New Jersey?
Yes, a multi-state RV road trip from Conashaugh Lakes is allowed. You are about 12 miles from the New Jersey border at Dingmans Bridge and roughly 25 miles from the New York state line near Port Jervis, making interstate travel effortless. Popular routes include the Catskills (about 50 miles north), Hudson Valley (about 75 miles east), and Cape May beaches (about 180 miles south). Cross-border travel into Canada depends on your specific host and protection plan, so message the host before booking if Canada is on your itinerary. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental due to insurance coverage limits.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for?
Realistic numbers make budgeting easy. Class B campervans get 18 to 22 miles per gallon, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A coaches typically run 6 to 10 MPG. Travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves but will drop your tow vehicle's MPG by 25 to 40 percent. Gas in Pike County usually tracks close to the Pennsylvania state average, and the cheapest fill-ups near Conashaugh Lakes are typically at the stations along US-6 in Milford and the Wawa near the I-84 exit. Pro tip: top off in Milford before heading deep into Delaware Water Gap or up to Lake Wallenpaupack, where stations are sparser and prices climb. Budget around $0.30 to $0.50 per mile in fuel for a Class C and you'll be on the safe side.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Conashaugh Lakes?
Book early, especially for summer. Pennsylvania state parks like Promised Land use the ReserveAmerica system and open reservations up to 11 months in advance, and the lakefront and electric sites at Pickerel Point and Lower Lake fill within days for July and August weekends. Delaware Water Gap NRA campgrounds (Dingmans, Driftstone on the Delaware) book through Recreation.gov on a 6-month rolling window. For private parks like Otter Lake Camp-Resort or Cranberry Run, aim for 2 to 4 months ahead for peak weekends. Local insider tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) often have wide-open availability even in July, perfect if you have schedule flexibility. Late September is gorgeous and far easier to book on short notice.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the driving conditions like around Conashaugh Lakes?
Driving here is genuinely pleasant, especially compared to big-city RV navigation. PA-739, the main road to Conashaugh Lakes, is a two-lane state highway with gentle curves and good shoulders. I-84 connects you to Scranton in the west and the New York Thruway to the east, both well-maintained for RV traffic. Watch for a few specifics: Dingmans Ferry Road (US-209) has scenic but tight turns through the national recreation area, deer are active at dawn and dusk year-round (especially around Dingman Township), and winter storms from November through March can bring snow and ice, so plan for plowed routes if traveling off-season. Local tip: avoid the I-84 stretch near Matamoras during Friday evening NYC rush, things back up quickly.
511pa.com/What hookups and amenities will I find at local campgrounds?
Campgrounds around Conashaugh Lakes offer a healthy range of hookup options. Promised Land State Park has electric (20/30/50 amp) sites with water spigots nearby, flush toilets, hot showers, and a sanitary dump station included with your stay. Dingmans Campground in Delaware Water Gap NRA offers full hookups (water, electric, sewer) at many sites plus a camp store. Private parks like Otter Lake Camp-Resort and Ironwood Point on Lake Wallenpaupack typically include full hookups, Wi-Fi, laundry, and pool access. Pro tip: if your host's RV doesn't have a built-in fresh water tank capacity for boondocking, stick to electric or full-hookup sites. Dump stations are easy to find at Promised Land, Otter Lake, and the Milford-area private parks.

Many rigs also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and onboard generator. Campervan rental Conashaugh Lakes options are more compact but cleverly designed: a bed, kitchenette, and often a wet bath, ideal for couples exploring the Poconos. Wi-Fi varies by listing (cell service can be patchy deep in Delaware State Forest), so check the listing's amenities tab and message the host if mobile hotspot capability matters for your trip.

Payment is straightforward and fully handled through the RVezy platform, so there is no awkward cash-at-pickup moment. You pay your trip total (rental rate, protection plan, taxes, and any add-ons) at checkout using a major credit or debit card. A security deposit is held separately on your card before the trip and released after the RV is returned in the same condition, typically within a few days of dropoff. Deposit amounts vary by RV class and host. To avoid issues: complete the pre-trip walkthrough thoroughly, photograph the rig inside and out at pickup and return, and report anything unusual right away through the RVezy app. Transparent and protected on both sides.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Conashaugh Lakes during winter?
Yes, winter RV rental in Conashaugh Lakes is a hidden gem for adventurous travelers. Pike County winters bring snow-draped pines, frozen lakes perfect for ice fishing, and quiet trails at Promised Land State Park, whose Pickerel Point loop stays open year-round with electric sites and a heated bathhouse. Look for rigs on RVezy with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and a strong propane furnace, and confirm with the host that the unit is winterized for use (not storage). Daytime temps from December through February typically range from 25 to 38 degrees Fahrenheit, with overnight lows dipping into the teens. Plan for shore-power sites, pack extra propane, and bring tire chains if a storm is forecast. It's a magical, crowd-free way to experience the Poconos.
