Campgrounds near DeSales University
DeSales University sits in Center Valley, Pennsylvania, in Upper Saucon Township in the southern Lehigh Valley, about 50 miles north of Philadelphia. The surrounding area is a mix of rolling farmland, small boroughs, and forested ridges, with the Poconos to the north and Bucks County to the south. RV renters use the campus area as a convenient base for the Lehigh Valley, Bucks County covered-bridge country, and the greater Delaware River corridor.
Most campgrounds within a short drive are privately owned, family-oriented parks with hookup RV sites, pools, and organized weekend activities. Closer to the university in Coopersburg, Moyers Lake and Campground offers a small wooded lakeside setting, and Quaker Woods Campground sits in the same corner of Lehigh County. In neighboring Quakertown, Tohickon Family Campground borders Tohickon Creek near Lake Nockamixon, and Little Red Barn Camp Grounds is a short drive away. Homestead Family Campgrounds lies farther south toward Green Lane.
Pennsylvania state parks in the region do not sit directly adjacent to DeSales but are within easy day-trip range, giving renters a mix of private RV parks for overnight stays and public lands for daytime recreation.
Things to do near DeSales University
The Lehigh Valley is compact and easy to tour from an RV base. Families use nearby state parks for swimming, fishing, and boating, and Bucks County offers covered bridges, farm markets, and small historic towns like Doylestown and Quakertown. Lake Nockamixon, a short drive from the Quakertown-area campgrounds, is a regional favorite for kayaking and shore fishing.
On campus and in the surrounding area, DeSales hosts the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival at its Labuda Center, drawing summer visitors to Center Valley. Rainy-day options include the Da Vinci Science Center in Allentown, the Crayola Experience in Easton, and the National Museum of Industrial History in Bethlehem.
Hikers and cyclists have access to the Appalachian Trail along Blue Mountain to the north, the D&L Trail along the Lehigh and Delaware canals, and trail networks at Nockamixon and Jacobsburg state parks.

The Lehigh Valley has a humid continental climate, with cold winters, warm humid summers, and distinct spring and fall shoulder seasons. Winters can bring snow, ice, sleet, and freezing rain, and many private campgrounds in the area close from late fall through early spring or limit services during that stretch. RV renters planning a shoulder-season trip should confirm whether water hookups, bathhouses, and dump stations are open.
Spring brings frequent rain and steadily warming temperatures. March and April are wet, but by May the woods and trails are in full leaf and most private campgrounds have opened for the season. Tohickon Family Campground, for example, operates from April 1 through October 31. This is a good window for lower-traffic weekends before summer bookings ramp up.
Summer is the peak season. July is the warmest month, with afternoon thunderstorms common and high humidity. Family campgrounds in Bucks County and the Quakertown area fill on weekends, and holiday weekends often sell out weeks ahead. Fall delivers cooler nights, lower humidity, and strong foliage in October, and it is often the most comfortable stretch for RV travel in this part of Pennsylvania.

Great weekend getaway!
Kami A. - Nov 2024
Great vehicle and friendly owners. This compact camper has a lot of creature comforts while allowing one to maneuver and park in regular parking lots. The van is really easy to drive and handles really nice. The beds were comfortable and IMO accommodate 2 adults (top bed) and 1 adult or 2 kids in the lower bed. We were able to use the bike rack, too, and that worked great for a road bike and mountain bike (I think 2 mountain bikes might not fit unless the handle bars were turned on 1 of them). We didn't use the, generator, heater, hot water, shower, sink, microwave or toilet so I can't comment on them but I wish we rented it longer so we could've taken advantage of all this van has to offer. We would absolutely rent again.

Booking and how to reserve
Private campgrounds near DeSales University typically take reservations directly through their own websites or through platforms like Campspot, with the Quakertown-area parks in particular accepting online bookings. For summer weekends, holidays, and the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival run, book four to eight weeks in advance, and longer for Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day.
For Pennsylvania state parks used as day-trip destinations or for camping farther afield, reservations are handled online through the state's official reservation system or by calling 888-PA-PARKS. Most state park campsites can be reserved up to 11 months in advance, and a limited number of unreserved sites remain available first-come, first-served.
When booking an RV site, confirm rig-length limits, hookup type (electric only, water and electric, or full hookup), and low-clearance access points. Tohickon Family Campground, for example, sits near a covered bridge with limited height clearance, so follow the campground's posted driving directions rather than relying on GPS.
What to expect
Campgrounds in this part of Pennsylvania lean family-oriented rather than resort-style. Expect wooded or partially shaded sites, gravel or grass pads, picnic tables, and fire rings, with pools, playgrounds, camp stores, and weekend activities at the larger parks. Cell service is generally good on major carriers but can be spotty in creek valleys and wooded loops.
Roads into the campgrounds are often narrow rural lanes with tight turns, low bridges, and the occasional covered bridge. Drivers of larger Class A or fifth-wheel rigs should map the approach in advance and avoid GPS shortcuts. Firewood should be purchased locally to limit the spread of invasive pests.
Bring layers regardless of season. Summer days can be hot and humid with sudden thunderstorms, and clear nights in spring and fall cool off quickly. Mosquitoes and ticks are active from late spring through early fall.
