Campgrounds near Dupont, Pennsylvania
Dupont sits in Luzerne County in northeastern Pennsylvania, just off Interstate 81 between Wilkes-Barre and Scranton. The location puts RV travelers within a short drive of two major state park campgrounds, the Pocono Mountains foothills, and the Lehigh River corridor, making it a practical base for a multi-stop trip.
The closest public option is Frances Slocum State Park, a 1,035-acre park in Luzerne County built around a horseshoe-shaped, 165-acre lake popular for boating and fishing. About 30 minutes north, the 1,445-acre Lackawanna State Park lies ten miles north of Scranton and centers on the 198-acre Lackawanna Lake, surrounded by picnic areas and multi-use trails winding through forest.
Private options extend the range. Highland Campgrounds and Benton Hills Mobile Home Park serve travelers looking for full-hookup or long-stay sites closer to town, while Lehigh Gorge Campground pairs RV camping with access to the Lehigh Gorge and the surrounding Pocono region.
Things to do near Dupont
Water recreation drives most trip plans. At Frances Slocum State Park the lake supports boating and fishing, and numerous hiking and mountain biking trails and the large day use area attract visitors to picnic and explore the forests. Lackawanna State Park adds a seasonal pool: while swimming is not permitted in Lackawanna Lake, visitors can cool off at the park's seasonal swimming pool, open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, along with paddling, fishing, and an 18-mile multi-use trail system.
For bigger scenery, head south to the Lehigh Gorge, a deep, steep-walled gorge carved by the Lehigh River between the Francis E. Walter Dam and Jim Thorpe. The Lehigh Gorge Trail is a rail trail that runs along the river through the gorge and is popular for cycling from a Lehigh Gorge Campground base.

State park campgrounds run a defined season. At Frances Slocum State Park the 100-site campground is available from mid-April to mid-October, and the Lackawanna campground opens mid-April and closes mid-October. Winter camping is not offered at these DCNR sites, so cold-weather RV travelers should plan around private grounds.
Summer is peak. Weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day book heavily, and reservations should be made well in advance, especially for summer weekends when the campground fills quickly. Fall brings cooler nights, hardwood color across the Endless Mountains, and easier midweek availability into early October before the season closes.
Spring shoulder trips can be wet and muddy, but sites open up and trails are quiet. If a specific loop or pet-friendly site matters, book at the 11-month window. At Lackawanna the maximum camping period is 14 consecutive days in the summer season and 21 consecutive days in the off-season.

How to book a campsite near Dupont
Pennsylvania state parks use one central system. Most campsites in Pennsylvania state parks can be reserved 11 months in advance to noon of the day of arrival, and campers without a reservation arriving after noon should check near the campground entrance for instructions. Online reservations for day use and overnight facilities can be made through the DCNR site, or by calling toll-free 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), from 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday to Saturday.
Before booking Lackawanna, note a major closure: construction will require full campground closure beginning Tuesday, September 8, 2026, through early 2028. Overnight camping will not be available during the renovation period, but the park will remain open for day-use activities including trails, picnic areas, and the lake.
Private campgrounds including Highland Campgrounds, Lehigh Gorge Campground, and Benton Hills Mobile Home Park handle their own reservations. Call directly for RV length limits, hookup availability, and seasonal-site policies.
What to expect at campgrounds near Dupont
Sites are generally forested rather than open and level. At Frances Slocum, the 100-site campground has 85 tent or trailer sites, some ADA accessible and some with electric hookups, plus 15 walk-in tent sites for added privacy; each site has a picnic table and fire ring, pets are permitted on designated sites, and flush toilets, showers, drinking water, a sanitary dump station, and a boat launch are available.
Lackawanna offers a wider mix. The modern campground has forested campsites (full-hookup, electric, non-electric, pet-friendly, and walk-to), three camping cottages, and two yurts, with Fox Run and Maple Lane loops allowing pets at designated sites. Verify RV length limits when booking, particularly for larger Class A rigs, since many wooded sites favor smaller trailers and Class C motorhomes.
