Campgrounds and RV parks near Enhaut, PA

The immediate draw for most RV families is Hersheypark and ZooAmerica, roughly fifteen miles east. Guests staying at Hersheypark Camping Resort can access a seasonal Hersheypark shuttle bus during the park's operating season, along with on-site recreation such as an indoor game room, playgrounds, and volleyball and basketball courts. Outdoor recreation centers on Pinchot Lake at Gifford Pinchot State Park, where the 340-acre lake anchors a swimming beach, boat launches and mooring areas, hiking trails, and picnic areas. Fishing, kayaking, and shoreline picnicking are common summer activities, and ice fishing and ice skating are possible in winter. In Harrisburg itself, the Capitol complex, the Susquehanna riverfront, and the National Civil War Museum are easy day trips. Lancaster County's Amish farmland, Gettysburg battlefield, and Appalachian Trail crossings all sit within an hour.

Summer is the busiest and most reliable stretch for RV travel in this part of Pennsylvania. Demand around Hersheypark and the surrounding campgrounds climbs quickly on holiday weekends, and travelers should reserve well in advance for June through August stays. State-park camping follows a defined season. At Gifford Pinchot, the main camping season runs from the second Friday in April until the third Sunday in October, during which time the full range of facilities is typically available. Limited camping facilities may be available outside of these dates. Spring brings mild days and higher rainfall; fall delivers cool nights and strong foliage through mid to late October. Winter is cold, and most public campgrounds shut down. Hersheypark Camping Resort stays open year-round, but once temperatures drop below 30°F over the course of three days, water is shut off immediately through April 1. The Historic Landis Barn bath house and the 2-Bedroom Deluxe Cabins keep water year-round.

Facilities range widely. Gifford Pinchot leans toward a traditional state-park layout, with restroom bathhouses within walking distance, communal water hydrants throughout the campground, a sanitary dump station accessible for a fee, and a designated boat launch and swimming area for overnight guests. Most sites have large pads that fit tents through large motorhomes, many include electric hookups, and full-hookup sites are limited. Hersheypark Camping Resort is larger and more resort-style, with more than 300 open and shaded sites, cabins with heat and air conditioning, tiny homes, full hook-up sites with electric, water, sewer and cable, partial sites, and no hook-up tent sites. Pets are usually allowed but restricted to specific loops or sites. Cell coverage is generally strong across the Harrisburg-Hershey corridor and spottier in the wooded areas around Pinchot Lake.
