Campgrounds and RV parks near Fawn Lake Forest, PA

Water recreation defines the area. Lake Wallenpaupack offers boating, fishing, and swimming, with the Palmyra Township public beach adjacent to Wilsonville Recreational Area PPL and boat slips available on site. The Wallenpaupack Lake Trail passes through the campground for walking and cycling along the shoreline. On the Delaware River, Kittatinny Campgrounds and Kittatinny's K-Camp Campground base guided rafting, canoeing, kayaking, and tubing trips through the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River, plus dam-release whitewater on the Lackawaxen and a 3,000-foot zipline at the Barryville Adventure Center. At Promised Land State Park, families can hike the Conservation Island loop, fish two lakes for bass, pickerel, perch, and stocked trout, and connect to longer trails in the adjacent Delaware State Forest.

Camping season in this part of the Poconos is short and concentrated. Wilsonville Recreational Area PPL is a seasonal campground that typically opens the last weekend in April and closes the third Sunday in October. The Pines at Promised Land State Park runs on a shorter summer window, and the modern Lower Lake Campground operates from early April through mid-October, with modern restrooms and showers available from Memorial Day through Columbus Day. Summer is peak season. Weekends around July 4 and Labor Day sell out first, and Lake Wallenpaupack marinas and Delaware River outfitters run at full capacity. Book at least several weeks ahead for July and August, and expect minimum-stay rules on holiday weekends at private parks like Three Pines Campground. Spring and fall bring cooler nights, lower crowds, and strong trout fishing on the Lower Lake at Promised Land. Late September and early October also deliver hardwood color across the beech, maple, oak, and hemlock forests. Winter camping is limited: most private parks and Wilsonville close, though Promised Land State Park itself remains open year-round for day use.

Sites in the area range from rustic to full hookup. Promised Land State Park campgrounds vary from rustic (flush toilets, no showers, no electricity) to full hookup with sewer, electric, and water, and all sit near swimming, boating, fishing, and hiking. A dump station is located at the entrance to Lower Lake Campground. Kittatinny's Delaware River campgrounds offer wooded and riverfront sites with bathhouses, a camp store, and both back-in and pull-through RV spots. Expect black bears in the region. Store food securely and never leave coolers or trash at the site. Quiet hours at Pennsylvania state parks are enforced, and alcohol is generally prohibited on state park land without a permit. Cell service is usable near Promised Land and along the Route 6 corridor near Hawley, but can drop out on forest roads. Bring cash or quarters for coin-operated laundry and showers at some sites.
