Camping near Flying Hills, Pennsylvania
Flying Hills is a census-designated place in Cumru Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, sitting about 5 miles south of Reading in the rolling farmland of the state's southeast. The community itself is residential and compact, so most RV travelers base out of larger commercial campgrounds in adjacent Berks and Lancaster counties and use Flying Hills as a quiet home point for day trips.
The surrounding region is part of Pennsylvania Dutch Country, with a mix of farmland, small towns, and historic sites within a short drive. Reading anchors the county to the north, and Lancaster County lies to the south and southeast, giving renters a wide range of trip options.
Closest full-service RV options include Sun Retreats Lancaster County and Sun Outdoors Lancaster County near Narvon, plus Adventure Bound Oak Creek, Sun Valley RV Campground, and Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Oak Creek. Most operate as family resorts with pools, hookups, and cabin rentals, making them practical for renters traveling with kids.
Things to do around Flying Hills
Berks County pairs outdoor recreation with Pennsylvania Dutch culture. Flying Hills itself was developed as a planned community in the 1970s around the Flying Hills Golf Course, and the neighborhood offers golf, tennis, pickleball, and catch-and-release fishing at the course pond. Reading, just to the north, adds museums, factory outlets, and historic downtown blocks.
Day-trip options include Crystal Cave near Kutztown, Amish farm country and covered bridges in Lancaster County, and the shopping corridors around the city of Lancaster. Philadelphia Premium Outlets in Limerick sits about a half hour east.
On-site, resort campgrounds keep kids busy without leaving the gate. Sun Retreats Lancaster County, for example, offers indoor and outdoor pools, a stocked six-acre lake, boat rentals, mini golf, and a cafe, which helps on travel days when families do not want to load back into the RV.

The area runs on a classic four-season calendar. Spring brings mild days and frequent rain. Summer is warm and humid, suitable for swimming or paddling on nearby lakes. Fall delivers vibrant foliage and crisp air, and winter is cold with periodic snow.
Most private RV resorts in the region are seasonal. Sun Retreats Lancaster County and Sun Outdoors Lancaster County operate April 1 through October 31, and similar April-through-late-October windows are common at nearby parks. Renters planning a shoulder-season trip should confirm gate dates and pool availability before booking.
Demand peaks from Memorial Day through Labor Day and again on fall-foliage weekends in October. Spring and fall are strong choices for visiting Flying Hills, with milder weather and lighter crowds than midsummer. Booking eight to twelve weeks ahead is typical for summer Saturdays and any holiday weekend.

How to book campgrounds near Flying Hills
There are no federal or state park campgrounds inside Flying Hills itself, so most reservations go through private resort operators. Sun Retreats Lancaster County and Sun Outdoors Lancaster County both book through the Sun Outdoors website, with online availability search by site type and rig length. Many sites offer full hookups, and premium pull-thru sites can accommodate larger rigs with slide-outs.
Adventure Bound Oak Creek, Sun Valley RV Campground, and Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Oak Creek take reservations directly through their own sites or through third-party campground marketplaces. Have your rig length, slide count, and electric service (30 or 50 amp) ready before you call.
For nearby Pennsylvania state parks such as French Creek, reservations are handled through the state's central reservation system up to eleven months in advance, which is useful as a backup when private resorts sell out.
What to expect on the ground
Expect wooded, rolling terrain rather than flat prairie sites. Sites at Sun Retreats Lancaster County are generally wooded, with a mix of back-in and pull-thru layouts, 30 and 50 amp electric, cable, picnic tables, and fire rings. Cell coverage can be inconsistent in the hollows, so download maps before leaving pavement.
Big-rig drivers should scout ahead. Reviewers have flagged that some Lancaster-area resorts have narrow interior roads and tight turns, so anything over about forty feet should confirm site dimensions and access at booking.
Most campgrounds in the region are family-oriented, with pools, playgrounds, and weekend theme events. Golf carts are common, quiet hours are enforced, and pet policies vary by park, so verify leash rules and any breed restrictions before arrival.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Flying Hills, PA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Flying Hills, PA?
RV rental in Flying Hills is one of the more affordable ways to explore Pennsylvania Dutch Country. On RVezy, travel trailers typically run $90 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A rigs sit around $300 and up. Spring weekends and fall foliage season in October push pricing higher, so booking midweek in late April or early November is the smart-money move. Pro tip: filter for Instant Book and look at listings just outside Reading, where hosts in Mohnton, Sinking Spring, and Shillington often price 10 to 20 percent below downtown Reading listings. A four-night family escape can land well under $1,000 before fuel.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Flying%20Hills%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Flying Hills, Pennsylvania?
Your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Pennsylvania, as long as the rig weighs under 26,000 pounds (which covers nearly every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, and travel trailer on RVezy). You also need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the platform during booking, so there is no DMV trip or paperwork on your end. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit from your home country auto club before you fly in. Most first-time renters in Berks County are surprised at how quickly the verification clears, often within a few hours, leaving you free to focus on planning your route through Hawk Mountain or Hershey.
dmv.pa.gov/Pages/default.aspxIs the RV rental protected if something happens during my Flying Hills trip?
Yes, every RV rental in Flying Hills booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can pull onto Route 222 with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level at checkout (not the host), so you can match your comfort with your budget. Coverage is built specifically for peer-to-peer RV rentals and is detailed transparently on RVezy. Pro tip: record a careful walkthrough video with your host at pickup in Flying Hills and again at drop-off, it is the easiest way to keep your trip claim-free.

After the grace period, the refund amount depends on how close you are to your trip start date. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds your booking or offers travel credits, so you are never left stranded. The full policy lives on the RVezy Help Center so you can review it anytime, and customer support is one click away if life throws a curveball at your Berks County plans.

Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Flying Hills is easy to find. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see dozens of hosts in Berks County who welcome dogs, some even include bowls, leashes, and beds. Your pup will love the trails at Nolde Forest Environmental Education Center just south of Flying Hills, and French Creek State Park has leash-friendly loops around Hopewell and Scotts Run lakes. Most pet-friendly hosts ask that you keep dogs off the furniture and crate them when you're away from the RV. Pro tip: message the host before booking to mention your dog's size and breed, it speeds approval and often unlocks helpful local advice on the best dog parks in Reading.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/FrenchCreekStatePark/Pages/default.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Flying Hills?
Yes, RV delivery in Flying Hills is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers. Many local hosts will drive the RV to your campground, driveway, or rental house, level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. Popular delivery destinations include French Creek State Park (about 25 minutes east), Blue Marsh Lake Recreation Area (about 20 minutes north), and Hershey-area campgrounds (about 45 minutes west). Delivery fees are listed right on the host's page and depend on distance. Pro tip: if you have never towed a trailer, paying for delivery on a fifth wheel or large travel trailer turns a stressful day into a relaxed arrival.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Flying%20Hills%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow far can I drive on a Flying Hills RV trip, and is unlimited mileage available?

Extra mileage usually runs $0.30 to $0.45 per mile if you go over. Pro tip: map your full route before booking and message the host with your estimated mileage, many will bundle extra miles into your nightly rate for a better deal.
visitpa.com/Where are the best campgrounds near Flying Hills, PA?

Blue Marsh Lake's Pleasant Hill area, run by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers north of Reading, is a local favorite for boating and shoreline sites. Sill's Family Campground in Mohrsville sits on the Schuylkill River and welcomes longer rigs. For full hookups and a pool, Robin Hill Camping Resort in Lenhartsville is a 35-minute drive north. Pro tip: Pennsylvania state parks book through the official reservation system up to 11 months in advance, so claim summer weekends early.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/FrenchCreekStatePark/Pages/default.aspxWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Flying Hills?
Late April through late October is the sweet spot for RV camping in Flying Hills, with fall foliage in the second and third weeks of October being absolutely spectacular across Berks County. Summer highs sit in the low 80s Fahrenheit with humid afternoons, spring and fall hover in the comfortable 55 to 70 degree range, and winters dip into the 20s and 30s with occasional snow. Many local hosts list year-round, so a cozy winter RV stay near Hawk Mountain Sanctuary is a quiet, magical option if your rental has a furnace and heated tanks. Pro tip: book the second weekend of October at least four months ahead, leaf-peeper traffic from Philadelphia and NYC fills up French Creek and Blue Marsh fast.
weather.gov/ctp/I have never rented an RV before, will I get help figuring it out?
You won't be left guessing, every RVezy host gives you a full orientation walkthrough at pickup in Flying Hills, covering the slide-outs, propane, water, generator, awning, and dump procedures. First time renting an RV is honestly the most common type of booking we see in Berks County, and hosts here are known for being patient teachers (many used to be first-timers themselves on Pennsylvania's rolling back roads). You can also message your host anytime during the trip with questions, and RVezy's 24/7 support team is on standby. Pro tip: ask your host to record a quick phone video of the dump-station steps so you have a refresher when you stop at French Creek or Blue Marsh.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my Flying Hills trip?
You're covered. 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every Flying Hills RV rental booked on RVezy, so a flat tire on Route 422 or a dead battery at a campsite is a phone call, not a crisis. Roadside dispatch handles tire changes, lockouts, jump-starts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified service center. Your host is also typically a quick text away to walk you through any quirks. If the issue is mechanical and major, RVezy customer support steps in to help coordinate a replacement plan. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before pulling out of the driveway, and snap a photo of the RV's tire pressure sticker so you have specs handy at any Wawa or Sheetz on your route.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Flying Hills RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, an interstate RV road trip from Flying Hills is a breeze. New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, New York, West Virginia, and Virginia are all within an easy day's drive, and most hosts welcome multi-state itineraries. Crossing into Canada (think Niagara Falls or Montreal) is allowed by many hosts as long as you confirm it during booking so insurance and protection coverage stay intact. Message the host directly from the listing to confirm before you commit. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Popular cross-border routes include Flying Hills to Niagara Falls (about 320 miles) and Flying Hills to the Outer Banks (around 425 miles). Pro tip: bring your passport for any Canada trip and share your full route with your host up front.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Flying Hills RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable, but it's easy to estimate. Class B campervans get 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 mpg, and Class A rigs typically run 6 to 10 mpg. Pennsylvania gas prices usually sit slightly above the national average due to state fuel taxes, so plan around current rates at Wawa and Sheetz stations along Route 222 and I-78. For a 4-night trip covering 400 miles in a Class C, expect $150 to $225 in fuel. Pro tip: diesel pushers refuel more cheaply at truck stops like the Pilot in Wyomissing or the TA in Lamar, and GasBuddy will quickly find the lowest cents-per-gallon on your exact route.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Flying Hills?
For peak summer weekends and October leaf season, lock in your campground 3 to 6 months ahead. Pennsylvania state parks like French Creek release reservations months in advance through the official state reservation system, and prime sites at Blue Marsh's Dry Brooks area go fast on holiday weekends. Private parks such as Robin Hill Camping Resort and Sill's Family Campground are usually easier to grab 4 to 8 weeks out. Midweek stays in late April, May, or September often have same-week availability. Pro tip: if your first-choice park is full, set an availability alert and check Sunday afternoons, that's when many cancellations land in Berks County and openings reappear.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the driving conditions like around Flying Hills, PA?
Driving an RV around Flying Hills is very manageable, the area sits on rolling terrain with well-maintained roads and no major mountain passes to sweat. Route 222, Route 422, and I-176 are the main arteries and easily handle Class A and large fifth wheels. The one thing to watch is downtown Reading's tighter streets and the low railroad bridges (some clearances are under 11 feet) so keep your GPS set to RV mode. Winter brings occasional snow and ice from December through February, so check PennDOT's 511PA service before heading out. Pro tip: if you are nervous about city driving, request RV delivery from your host so you skip Reading traffic entirely and start your trip relaxed.
511pa.com/What hookups and amenities will I find at campgrounds near Flying Hills?
Berks County campgrounds offer a strong mix of options. French Creek State Park has electric hookups (20/30/50 amp at many sites) plus shared water spigots, modern restrooms, and a sanitary dump station on-site. Blue Marsh's Pleasant Hill Day Use and Dry Brooks areas offer electric sites, while private parks like Robin Hill and Sill's Family Campground typically provide full hookups with sewer, plus laundry, pool, and Wi-Fi. Potable water fills are easy to find, and most state parks let you dump for free as a registered camper. Pro tip: pick up a dump-station list from the Pennsylvania DCNR website before you leave, and travel with a 25-foot drinking-water hose since spigots at French Creek can sit a bit farther from the pad.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/WhatToDo/Camping/Pages/default.aspxWhat's actually included inside a motorhome rental in Flying Hills?
Motorhome rental in Flying Hills comes loaded for comfort. Expect a queen or king bed, bunk options in many Class C models, a full kitchen with stove, fridge, microwave, sink and cookware, a wet bath or dry bath with toilet and shower, roof-mounted air conditioning, propane furnace, and seatbelted seating for the whole family. Most hosts include linens, towels, kitchen basics, outdoor chairs, and a leveling kit. Generators are common on Class A and Class C rigs (great for boondocking at Blue Marsh), and some listings include Wi-Fi hotspots or roof-mounted TVs. Pro tip: ask your host if a starter kit (toilet chemicals, paper towels, dish soap) is included, many Flying Hills hosts toss it in free and it saves a Target run.
visitpaamericana.com/things-to-do/What add-ons and pickup options can I expect with my Flying Hills RV rental?
Hosts in Flying Hills offer a great range of add-ons to tailor your trip. Common extras include bike racks, kayak or paddleboard packages (perfect for Blue Marsh Lake), generator usage, propane refills, linen and kitchen kits, camp chairs, outdoor grills, and pet-cleaning fees for furry travelers. Pickup is typically at the host's home in places like Mohnton, Shillington, or Sinking Spring, and many offer delivery to French Creek State Park or a nearby campground for a flat fee. Mileage policies vary, with 100 free miles per night being typical and unlimited mileage available on select listings. Pro tip: bundle the bike rack and kayak package together, many hosts discount when you take both, and the trail loop at Blue Marsh is one of the best rides in eastern PA.
nab.usace.army.mil/Missions/Recreation/Blue-Marsh-Lake/Recreation/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book your RV rental in Pennsylvania through RVezy, you pay through the platform using a credit or debit card, with no cash exchange with the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) and released back to your card after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. You will see the exact deposit amount on the listing before you book, so there are no surprises. Pro tip: take date-stamped video of the RV's exterior, interior, and odometer at both pickup and drop-off in Flying Hills, it is the single best way to keep your full deposit and wrap up your trip stress-free.
