Council Cup Campground in Wapwallopen offers additional wooded sites nearby.

Things to do near Forty Fort
Water recreation anchors most trips. The horseshoe-shaped 165-acre lake at Frances Slocum State Park is popular for boating and fishing, and supports many species of birds, fish, and wildlife. Frances Slocum Lake is open to fishing and boating with canoe and kayak rentals available, and a valid Pennsylvania fishing license is required for anglers aged 16 and older.
Hiking and mountain biking trails and the large day-use area draw visitors to picnic and explore the forests around the state park. To the south, Lehigh Gorge State Park offers rail-trail biking and whitewater rafting on the Lehigh River.
On-site amenities at private parks add rainy-day options. Moyers Grove has a solar-heated pool, mini golf, fishing ponds, basketball, volleyball, and horseshoes, while Highland Campgrounds features a playground, volleyball and badminton nets, and a rec room.

How to book campgrounds near Forty Fort
Pennsylvania state parks use a centralized reservation system. Most campsites in Pennsylvania state parks can be reserved 11 months in advance to noon of the day of arrival, and campers without a reservation arriving after noon should check near the campground entrance for instructions. Book online through the Pennsylvania DCNR reservation site or call 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday to Saturday.
At Frances Slocum, a 100-site campground is available from mid-April to mid-October, with 85 tent or trailer sites (some ADA-accessible, some with electric hookups) and 15 walk-in tent sites offering additional privacy.
Private campgrounds book direct. Contact Lehigh Gorge, Moyers Grove, Council Cup, or Highland Campgrounds by phone or through their websites; peak summer weekends and fall event weekends fill early.
What to expect on the ground near Forty Fort
Site types vary widely. State park sites tend to be wooded and lightly developed. The modern campground at Frances Slocum has electric, non-electric, walk-to, pet-friendly, and ADA-accessible campsites, each with a picnic table and fire ring, plus flush toilets, showers, drinking water, a sanitary dump station, and a nearby boat launch.
Private parks offer more hookups and amenities. Moyers Grove provides full-hookup sites with 20, 30, and 50 amp service, a solar-heated pool, laundry, and a country store, and accommodates rigs up to 40 feet. Highland Campgrounds offers full and partial hookups, cabin rentals, an in-ground pool, and clean restrooms with hot showers.
Cellular coverage is spotty in wooded valleys. Bring paper maps, expect gravel access roads, and plan for black bears in the region by storing food secured in the RV.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Forty%20Fort%2C%20PennsylvaniaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Forty Fort, PA?
For nearly every RV you can rent in Forty Fort, a standard driver's license is all you need. Pennsylvania only requires a non-commercial Class B license for single vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, and most motorhomes and travel trailers on RVezy are well under that limit. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older with a valid license, and your ID is verified during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit from your home auto club along with your home license before flying into Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included when I rent an RV in Forty Fort?
Every RV rental in Forty Fort booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can drive Interstate 81 or PA Route 309 with peace of mind. RVezy, not the host, sets the available protection tiers, and you choose your level of coverage at checkout. Plans help cover damage to the RV during your trip, with higher tiers offering lower deductibles and broader protection. While it is not a replacement for personal auto insurance, it provides meaningful financial protection whether you are parked at Frances Slocum State Park or heading home through a Wyoming Valley storm.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Forty Fort RV rental?
Booking is low risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy across the platform. There is a money-back grace period right after booking, and refund amounts step down based on how close you are to your trip start date. You will see the full cancellation details during checkout and in your booking confirmation. If a host cancels on you, RVezy issues a refund or travel credit. So if you are planning around a Mohegan Pennsylvania event or a fall foliage trip to Ricketts Glen, book the RV first to lock in your dates and rate, then finalize the rest with confidence.

Yes, plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental in Forty Fort, and the Wyoming Valley is a great region for dogs. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to instantly see motorhomes and trailers that welcome four-legged passengers. Once on the road, Pennsylvania state parks including Frances Slocum and Ricketts Glen have designated pet-friendly campsites and select pet-friendly cottages at Ricketts Glen. Kirby Park along the Susquehanna, right next to Forty Fort, is perfect for an off-RV stretch and sniff session. Message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees and details, and you are good to go.

Yes, RV delivery in Forty Fort is one of the easiest ways to start a trip, especially if it is your first time renting an RV. Many hosts will drive the rig to your driveway, a campground like Moyer's Grove in Wapwallopen, or directly to Ricketts Glen State Park, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see who offers it and the per-mile fee. Delivery is also a smart choice if you are flying into Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport (AVP) and want to skip city driving altogether.

pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/When is the best time of year to rent an RV in Forty Fort, PA?
Late spring through mid October is prime time for a Forty Fort RV trip. May and June bring mild days in the 60s and 70s, blooming mountain laurel, and fewer crowds. July and August are warm with highs typically in the low to mid 80s and the busiest campground weekends. The real local insider tip: late September through mid October delivers spectacular fall foliage across the Endless Mountains and Pocono region, with cool days in the 50s and 60s that are perfect for hiking the Falls Trail. Winters are cold and snowy with highs often in the 20s and 30s, but heated, winter-ready RVs are available for snowmobiling and ice fishing trips.
weather.gov/ctp/Is winter RV camping really possible around Forty Fort?
Yes, and it is a great way to see Northeastern Pennsylvania in a quieter season. Several hosts in the Wyoming Valley list four-season RVs with heated holding tanks, propane furnaces, and shore-power ready systems for cold weather. Ricketts Glen State Park offers limited year-round camping, and the frozen waterfalls draw experienced ice climbers from across the Northeast. If you are new to cold-weather camping, ask your host about winterization at pickup, plan to use full hookups where available so your water lines do not freeze, and bring traction aids or all-weather tires for mountain roads like PA Route 487.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/ricketts-glen-state-park.htmlI have never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You will be fine, and most first-time renters in Forty Fort are surprised how quickly it clicks. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to use the generator, slide-outs, propane, water system, and dump procedures before you leave the driveway. Class C motorhomes and small travel trailers drive a lot like a large van or pickup, and they are a great starting point for first time renting an RV. A useful tip: plan a short shakedown stay at Frances Slocum State Park, just 20 minutes from Forty Fort, before tackling a bigger loop into the Poconos or up to the Finger Lakes.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/frances-slocum-state-park.htmlWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering issues like flat tires, jump starts, towing, lockouts, and mechanical breakdowns across the US and Canada. Your host is also a phone call or message away and can often troubleshoot quirks of their specific rig, like a finicky awning or generator. The RVezy support team is available before, during, and after your trip. Cell service is solid along Interstate 81 and around the Wyoming Valley, though it can be spotty deep inside Ricketts Glen, so download offline maps before heading into the Glens.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037997714-Roadside-assistance-overviewCan I take my Forty Fort RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes to other states, and often yes to Canada with the right paperwork. A road trip from Forty Fort easily reaches New York (about 30 minutes north), New Jersey, or Washington, DC in under 4 hours, all covered by your standard RVezy protection. For Canadian crossings to Niagara Falls or Toronto, message the host before booking to confirm and arrange cross-border documentation, since some hosts allow it and some do not. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend there. Within the US and Canada, you have a continent of options.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for my RV trip?
Budgeting fuel for an RV road trip from Forty Fort is easier than people expect. Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 mpg, Class A coaches run 6 to 10 mpg, and a truck pulling a travel trailer usually lands around 10 to 14 mpg. Pennsylvania gas prices tend to run above the national average due to state fuel taxes, so consider filling up across the border in New York where it can be cheaper, or use warehouse club stations in the Wilkes-Barre area. Most truck stops along Interstate 81 have pull-through diesel lanes that can accommodate larger rigs without unhitching.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Forty Fort?
For Pennsylvania state parks near Forty Fort, you can reserve up to 11 months in advance through the DCNR reservation system or by calling 888-PA-PARKS. Popular parks like Ricketts Glen and Frances Slocum fill summer weekends fast, so aim to book 4 to 6 months ahead for Memorial Day through Labor Day, especially if you want a pet-friendly or electric site. Private RV parks like Moyer's Grove typically accept reservations year round and are more flexible last-minute. An insider tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Thursday) at state parks usually have far better availability and you can skip the two-night weekend minimum.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Forty Fort and the Wyoming Valley?
Forty Fort sits in the Wyoming Valley along Interstate 81 and the Cross Valley Expressway (PA Route 309), both of which are wide, well maintained, and RV-friendly. Local terrain is hilly but moderate, with steeper grades only as you climb toward the Poconos on I-80 east or PA Route 487 heading up to Ricketts Glen. Watch for sharp curves and the high summit on Route 487 if you are driving a longer rig. Winter brings snow and lake-effect bands, so check 511PA before mountain drives. Avoid the narrow streets of downtown Wilkes-Barre with larger motorhomes and use the highway loop instead.
511pa.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Forty Fort?
Campgrounds near Forty Fort cover the full range. State parks like Ricketts Glen offer modern bathhouses with hot showers, flush toilets, potable water spigots, fire rings, picnic tables, and a dump station, with electric hookups available at a portion of sites. Frances Slocum has similar modern amenities. Private RV parks like Moyer's Grove and Sandy Valley typically offer full hookups (sewer, water, 30/50-amp electric), Wi-Fi, laundry, pools, and camp stores. For dump stations and freshwater fills on the road, Flying J and Pilot truck stops along I-81 near Pittston and Hazleton are reliable stops in either direction.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/what-to-do/stay-overnight/rv-and-tent-campsites.htmlWhat features come standard inside a motorhome rental Forty Fort hosts list?

Many rigs also include a generator, awning, outdoor speakers, and roof-mounted solar. Some hosts add smart TVs, Wi-Fi hotspots, and backup cameras. Review each listing's amenities checklist and photos, and if a feature like a generator or bike rack matters to you, filter or message the host to confirm before booking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Forty%20Fort%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhat add-ons can I get with my RV rental and how do pickup and dropoff work?

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Forty%20Fort%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is handled entirely on the RVezy platform: no cash and no awkward host transactions. You pay with a major credit or debit card at the time of booking, and the security deposit is placed as a temporary hold (not a charge) on your card before pickup, separate from your booking payment. The hold is released after your trip, typically within a few business days, assuming the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid issues, take dated photos of the interior and exterior at pickup and dropoff, follow the host's fueling and dumping instructions, and stay within your mileage allotment. That bit of prep keeps your deposit intact and your Forty Fort RV trip stress free.
