Campgrounds and RV parks near Fox Chase, PA

Day trips from a Fox Chase-area base cover a wide range. French Creek State Park offers lake swimming, mountain biking, and access to Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site. Blue Marsh Lake, an Army Corps of Engineers reservoir, has a perimeter multi-use trail, boat launches, and a swimming beach. Hawk Mountain Sanctuary draws hikers and birders, particularly during the fall raptor migration. Families often work in stops at Crystal Cave, Roadside America in Shartlesville, and the Reading Pagoda on Mount Penn. The Schuylkill River Trail runs through the region, giving cyclists a paved route toward Hamburg and beyond. For rainy days, downtown Reading offers the Reading Public Museum, while the surrounding Amish farmland around Kutztown and Lancaster County produces the region's well-known farm markets and roadside stands.

The Berks County camping season runs roughly April through October at most private parks. Mountain Springs Camping Rsrt operates from April through October, and neighboring resorts follow a similar pattern, with pools and full programming timed to Memorial Day through Labor Day. Summer is the busiest stretch. Weekends around July 4, family reunions, and long weekends push seasonal-heavy parks close to capacity, and reserving several weeks out is advisable. Spring brings cooler nights, greener countryside, and quieter sites, though April can still be chilly for tent campers. Fall is a strong shoulder season: Hawk Mountain's raptor count runs from mid-August through mid-December with peak diversity in September and October, and Kittatinny Ridge foliage typically colors up in mid to late October. Winter camping is limited in this area. Most private parks close by early November, and public sites in the region shift to primitive or day-use only. Travelers looking for year-round options should confirm directly with the park before booking.

The landscape around Fox Chase is a mix of rolling farmland, small ridges, and the Schuylkill River valley. Private parks tend to be family-focused, with pools, playgrounds, and heavy seasonal populations. Sills Campgrounds offers pull-through and back-in sites with 30/50 amp full hookups on gravel pads, and Mountain Springs Camping Rsrt has 292 sites spread across open lawns and shaded woods just north of the Shartlesville exit off I-78. Site surfaces are typically gravel or grass. Big-rig access is generally good along the I-78 and Route 222 corridors, but some interior campground roads and back-in sites are tight due to mature trees. Verify length and slide-out clearance when booking. Cell coverage is reliable across most of Berks County. Park Wi-Fi is available at most private campgrounds but is often slow at peak times.
