Campgrounds and RV parks near Franklintown, PA

Franklintown sits in northern York County, Pennsylvania, at the western edge of the South Mountain foothills and within a short drive of the Susquehanna River corridor. The borough is small and rural, but its location puts RV travelers within reach of one of the region's largest public campgrounds and several family-run private parks. The anchor for the area is Gifford Pinchot State Park, a 2,338-acre full service park in northern York County along PA 177 between Rossville and Lewisberry, built around the 340-acre Pinchot Lake. Private options nearby include King's Campground, Walmar Manor Campground, Deer Run Campgrounds, and Campground Island, which offer a mix of seasonal and short-stay sites for tents, trailers, and larger motorhomes. Harrisburg, York, and Gettysburg are all within roughly a 30 to 45 minute drive, which makes Franklintown a workable base for touring central Pennsylvania history sites, farmland routes, and river towns without staying inside a busier metro campground.

Gifford Pinchot State Park is reserved through the Pennsylvania State Parks system, which uses ReserveAmerica for online bookings. Reservations must be made at least 3 days ahead of arrival and can be booked up to 11 months in advance, so summer weekends, lakefront sites, and cabins should be locked in early. Private campgrounds in the area, including King's Campground, Walmar Manor Campground, Deer Run Campgrounds, and Campground Island, generally accept reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Holiday weekends fill first, followed by any site with full hookups. Travelers hunting for a last-minute state park site can watch for cancellations, which are common in the weeks leading up to a trip. Confirm rig length, hookup type, and pet rules with the campground before arrival, as restrictions vary between loops and between private parks.
