Camping near Gold Key Lake, Pennsylvania
Gold Key Lake is a private lake community in Pike County, Pennsylvania, sitting in the northern Poconos between Milford and Dingmans Ferry. RV travelers use it as a jumping-off point for the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, a roughly 70,000-acre park that follows about 40 miles of the Delaware River along the Pennsylvania and New Jersey border.
Most campgrounds in the area sit along the Delaware River corridor within a short drive of Gold Key Lake. Dingmans Campground operates as a concessionaire inside the national recreation area itself, while Kittatinny's K-Camp Campground, Kittatinny Campgrounds, and River Beach Campsites on the Delaware-Kittatinny Canoes are riverfront properties run by a longtime Delaware River outfitter, with paddling trips available on-site.
Expect a mix of wooded forest sites, open riverfront pitches, and RV pads with water and electric hookups. The corridor is rustic rather than resort-style, so travelers looking for full amenities should confirm hookups and dump-station access before booking.
Things to do near Gold Key Lake
The Delaware River is the main draw. Kittatinny Canoes runs tubing, canoe, kayak, and raft trips from its riverfront campgrounds, with options for both flatwater and light whitewater sections. Dingmans Campground has an on-site boat launch onto the river, plus a general store and bike rentals.
Hiking is close at hand. The 32-mile McDade Trail runs directly past the Dingmans Campground front entrance, and a long stretch of the Appalachian Trail cuts through the recreation area. Raymondskill Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in Pennsylvania, and Bushkill Falls are both within a short drive.
On hot afternoons, families head to the public swim beaches at Milford Beach or Smithfield Beach, or into downtown Milford for shops and restaurants.

The camping season in this corridor is short. Dingmans Campground operates from April 1 through October 15, and the Kittatinny properties run a similar spring-to-fall schedule tied to river flow and weather. Winter camping is not offered at the riverfront campgrounds, though the recreation area itself stays open year-round for day use.
Summer is peak season. July and August draw the heaviest bookings for river trips, riverfront sites, and holiday weekends, and Dingmans Campground is often booked well in advance for summer weekends. Holiday periods at the Kittatinny campgrounds typically require a multi-night minimum stay.
Late spring and early fall are the quieter windows. May and June bring higher river flows and cooler nights, while September and October deliver fall color across the Poconos, with peak Pocono foliage generally in the second and third weeks of October. Bugs, humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms are typical from June into August.
How to book a campsite
Dingmans Campground is operated under a concessions contract with the National Park Service, and reservations are handled directly through the campground rather than Recreation.gov. Book online at the Dingmans Campground website or by phone, though the operator notes online is preferred because the phone line is not checked regularly. Inter-Agency Senior and Access pass holders receive a discount on eligible nights.
Kittatinny's K-Camp Campground, Kittatinny Campgrounds, and River Beach Campsites on the Delaware-Kittatinny Canoes take reservations through the Kittatinny Canoes website, which bundles campsites with river-trip add-ons.
For summer weekends and holidays, book as early as possible. Walk-up sites are sometimes available at Dingmans on the day of arrival, but availability is not guaranteed in peak season.
What to expect on-site
Sites in this area lean rustic. Dingmans Campground is a 65-acre, 134-site property with tent sites in old-growth forest, walk-in riverfront tent sites, and RV sites with water and electric hookups, plus central dump stations near the bathhouses. It is a dry campground and much of the property is a cellular dead zone, though free WiFi is available at the general store.
Check-in is typically mid-afternoon with a noon check-out, and firewood brought from outside the area is generally discouraged due to pest-control rules.
The Kittatinny properties are geared to river-trip guests, with camp stores, bathhouses, picnic tables, and fire rings. River Beach Campsites spans about 18 acres with more than 160 sites, wooded, open-field, and riverfront, suitable for tents and RVs, with modern bathhouses, a laundromat, and an on-site camp store.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Gold Key Lake, PA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Gold Key Lake, PA?
An RV rental in Gold Key Lake is often more affordable than a Poconos hotel plus restaurant meals for the same crew. On RVezy, you typically find travel trailers from around $90 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes from $150 to $250, and larger Class A rigs from $250 to $400, with the lowest rates Sunday through Thursday. Booking outside peak fall foliage weeks (mid-September to late October) and the July 4th holiday saves the most. Pro tip: filter by Instant Book and weekly stays to unlock host discounts that can shave 10 to 20 percent off your Gold Key Lake RV trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Gold%20Key%20Lake%2C%20PennsylvaniaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Gold Key Lake, Pennsylvania?
Great news for first-timers: a regular Class C Pennsylvania driver's license (or its equivalent from your home state or country) is all you need for nearly every RV rental in Gold Key Lake. PennDOT only requires a non-commercial Class A or Class B license for rigs with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, and the vast majority of motorhomes, campervans, travel trailers, and fifth wheels on RVezy fall well under that. You'll need to be 25 or older to book, with a valid license that RVezy verifies through the platform. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home license and you're ready to roll into the Poconos.
pa.gov/agencies/penndot/driver-vehicle-services/driver-services.htmlWhat protection and roadside assistance come with my RV rental?
You are covered from the moment you book. Every RV rental in Gold Key Lake through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on Route 6 or a dead battery at the campground is a quick phone call away from being solved. During checkout, you choose the protection level that fits your trip, with options that cover physical damage to the RV up to set limits. Hosts do not pick your coverage, you do, which means you control the level of protection for your Pocono adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Gold Key Lake RV trip?
Booking is genuinely low risk. RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy for every reservation, and that includes a money-back grace period right after booking so you can lock in your dates with confidence. If a host cancels, you receive a full refund or travel credit. The exact terms applied to your reservation are shown at checkout. Pro tip: book early to secure the best Gold Key Lake rigs for fall foliage weekends, knowing the cancellation framework is consistent across the platform.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Gold Key Lake?
Absolutely, the Poconos are a dog's dream and plenty of hosts welcome four-legged co-pilots. On RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter to find a pet-friendly RV rental in Gold Key Lake, then message the host with your pup's size and breed before booking. Nearby, Promised Land State Park allows leashed dogs on most trails and in designated pet-friendly camping loops, and the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area has miles of leashed-dog hiking along the Delaware River. Pro tip: pack a long tie-out lead for campsite lounging, since Pike County campgrounds require pets to be leashed and attended at all times.
nps.gov/dewa/planyourvisit/pets.htmCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Gold Key Lake?
Yes, and it is the easiest way to start your trip stress-free. Many hosts offer RV delivery in Gold Key Lake, meaning they tow or drive the rig directly to your campground, vacation property, or even a driveway in the Gold Key Estates community, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system. Popular delivery spots include Promised Land State Park, Otter Lake Camp Resort, and Dingmans Campground inside the Delaware Water Gap. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see hosts who offer it. Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer for a first time renting an RV, since you skip the driving and jump straight to s'mores.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Gold%20Key%20Lake%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow far can I drive, and are there RV rentals with unlimited mileage?
You have real range from Gold Key Lake. Each host sets a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 free miles per day) with a small per-mile fee beyond that, and some list RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is ideal for longer Pocono and Catskill loops. From Gold Key Lake you can reach the Delaware Water Gap in about 25 minutes, Bushkill Falls in 30, Promised Land State Park in 40, and Jim Thorpe in roughly 90 minutes. Pro tip: if you are planning a bigger RV road trip from Gold Key Lake (say, up to the Finger Lakes or down to Cape May), filter for unlimited-mileage listings and message the host to confirm your route.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Gold%20Key%20Lake%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhere are the best campgrounds near Gold Key Lake?
You're spoiled for choice. Some of the best campgrounds near Gold Key Lake include Promised Land State Park (about 30 miles away, with two lakes and 400+ wooded sites), Dingmans Campground inside Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area (riverside sites on the Delaware), Otter Lake Camp Resort in Marshalls Creek (full hookups, pool, and indoor rec center), Cherry Ridge Campsites near Honesdale, and Mountain Vista Campground in East Stroudsburg. All accommodate RVs of various sizes, and most offer 30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer. Pro tip: state park sites at Promised Land book up fast for summer and fall weekends, so reserve as soon as your dates are firm.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/PromisedLandStatePark/Pages/Camping.aspxWhen is the best time to rent an RV in Gold Key Lake?
There's truly no bad season here, but late September through mid-October is the showstopper, when Pocono foliage explodes in red and gold and daytime highs sit in the comfortable 55 to 70 degree Fahrenheit range. Summer (June through August) brings warm 75 to 85 degree days perfect for swimming and kayaking at Gold Key Lake and Promised Land. Spring is quiet and green with highs in the 50s to 60s, and winters drop into the teens and 20s with regular snow, which is magical if your rental is winter-equipped. Pro tip: book your foliage-week motorhome rental in Gold Key Lake by mid-July, because the best rigs sell out first.
weather.gov/bgm/I've never rented an RV before, will I actually know how to use it?
You'll be set up for success. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup (or at delivery), covering the propane, water pump, slide-outs, generator, awning, leveling, and dump procedures. Most first time renting an RV guests are surprised how much makes sense after a 30 minute tour. You can also message your host any time during the trip with questions, and RVezy support is on call 24/7. Pro tip: for your first Gold Key Lake RV trip, choose a Class C motorhome or a travel trailer under 25 feet, which drive much like a large SUV on Route 209 and I-84.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/rv-safetyWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
Help is always one tap away. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering flat tires, lockouts, jump-starts, towing, and fuel delivery anywhere in Pike County or on your wider route. Your host is also typically a quick text away to troubleshoot the awning, water heater, or generator. If a mechanical issue stops the trip, RVezy support helps coordinate next steps. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before pulling out of the driveway, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate so you have the info handy if you are on a quiet stretch like Route 402 through Delaware State Forest.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Gold Key Lake RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, regional road trips are one of the best parts of renting here. Gold Key Lake sits just minutes from the New York and New Jersey borders, so crossing into Port Jervis, the Catskills, or High Point State Park is effortless. Most RVezy hosts also allow travel to Vermont, Maine, the Finger Lakes, and into Canada with prior host approval, since RVezy insurance coverage extends to Canada when approved. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental. Pro tip: message your host before booking with your planned route, and have your passport or enhanced driver's license ready if Canada is on your itinerary.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Pocono RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable, but it's predictable. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes run 9 to 13 mpg, and Class A diesels land around 8 to 10 mpg. Pennsylvania gas prices typically run a bit higher than the national average, so plan around $3.40 to $3.90 per gallon when budgeting. For a long weekend looping Gold Key Lake, Promised Land, and the Delaware Water Gap (roughly 200 miles), expect $60 to $150 in fuel depending on rig size. Pro tip: fill up in Matamoras or Milford before heading into the more remote stretches near Delaware State Forest, where stations are sparse.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Gold Key Lake?
Book sooner than you think. Pennsylvania State Parks like Promised Land and nearby Tobyhanna open reservations up to 11 months in advance through the official reservation system, and prime summer and fall weekends regularly sell out 4 to 6 months ahead. Private parks like Otter Lake Camp Resort and Dingmans Campground also fill quickly for July 4th, Labor Day, and peak foliage weekends in early October. For midweek stays, you can often grab spots 1 to 2 weeks out. Pro tip: if state park sites are gone, search private campgrounds first, then ask your host about RV delivery to a vacation rental driveway as a Plan B.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the local roads like for driving an RV around Gold Key Lake?
They're very RV-friendly once you know the layout. I-84 and US Route 6 are the main arteries through Pike County, both wide and well-maintained, with easy access from Gold Key Estates via Route 739. Smaller roads like Route 402 through Delaware State Forest are scenic but narrow and winding, so take them slow in a larger rig. Watch for white-tailed deer at dawn and dusk, especially in autumn, and expect occasional fog rolling off the lakes in early morning. Snow tires and chains may be needed November through March. Pro tip: for RV camping Gold Key Lake newcomers, stick to Route 6 and I-84 your first day to build confidence before tackling backroads.
penndot.pa.gov/travelinpa/safety/Pages/default.aspxWhat hookups and amenities will I find at campgrounds near Gold Key Lake?
You'll have plenty of options. Most private parks around Gold Key Lake (Otter Lake, Mountain Vista, Cherry Ridge) offer full hookups with 30/50-amp electric, water, sewer, Wi-Fi, and laundry. Promised Land State Park provides electric and water at many sites, with centralized dump stations and bathhouses. Free dump and potable water fills are available at most Pennsylvania State Park campgrounds for registered campers. Pro tip: if you're boondocking or dry-camping in the Delaware State Forest, top off fresh water at Promised Land's dump station on the way in, since fill points are limited once you head deep into the forest roads.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/WhatToDo/Camping/Pages/default.aspxWhat's actually inside the RVs on RVezy?
More than most people expect. A typical motorhome rental in Gold Key Lake comes with a real bed (often a queen plus convertible bunks or dinette), a kitchen with fridge, stovetop, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with both AC and a furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many rigs also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, awnings, and a generator for off-grid power. Wi-Fi is hit-or-miss in the Poconos due to terrain, so a cellular hotspot is smart. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps and amenities on RVezy to match the rig to your crew, whether it's a family RV trip Gold Key Lake adventure or a couples getaway.
nps.gov/dewa/planyourvisit/camping.htmWhat add-ons and pickup options should I expect when I book?
Hosts make it easy to customize. Common add-ons for an RV rental in Pennsylvania include bedding and linen kits ($25 to $75), camp chairs and outdoor rugs, kayaks or bikes, generators, propane refills, and dump/cleaning packages so you can skip the end-of-trip chores. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Gold Key Estates, Milford, or Matamoras, with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough. Many hosts offer delivery to nearby campgrounds and lake houses for a flat fee based on mileage. Pro tip: ask about a delivery and pickup combo for a true campervan rental Gold Key Lake experience, where the host handles transport and you focus on the trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Gold%20Key%20Lake%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow do payment and security deposits work on RVezy?
It is all handled securely through the platform, so there is no cash exchange at pickup. When you book, you pay the rental total through RVezy with a credit or debit card. Hosts also set a refundable security deposit (commonly $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) that is pre-authorized on your card before the trip and released after a smooth return. To avoid any hold-up: take dated photos of the RV inside and out at pickup and dropoff, follow the host's fuel and dump instructions, and stay within your mileage and generator-hour allowance. Pro tip: for a cheap RV rental in Gold Key Lake, target Sunday-to-Thursday stays where many hosts offer weekday discounts.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksAre winter RV rentals available around Gold Key Lake?
Yes, and a snowy Pocono RV trip is genuinely special. Several RVezy hosts in the Gold Key Lake area list four-season rigs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, propane furnaces, and shore-power-ready setups for January and February stays, when nighttime lows can drop into the single digits. Otter Lake Camp Resort and select Pennsylvania state park loops stay open year-round with electric hookups. You are also about 30 minutes from skiing at Camelback. Pro tip: when you rent an RV in Gold Key Lake for winter, ask the host about a heated water hose, skirting, and extra propane tanks so you stay comfortable no matter what the Poconos bring.
