Campgrounds and RV parks near Halifax, PA

Halifax sits in northern Dauphin County along the Susquehanna River, about 20 miles north of Harrisburg. The surrounding area combines forested ridges, riverfront access, and a handful of small lakes, giving RV travelers a range of campground styles within a short drive. The terrain is rolling rather than mountainous, and most roads leading to campgrounds accommodate mid-size trailers and motorhomes without difficulty. Camp Hebron sits just outside Halifax on wooded acreage near Mountain View Lake and Powell's Creek, with 38 campsites split between full RV hookups, electric sites, and primitive tent sites. Ferryboat Campsites lies a short drive north along the Susquehanna near Liverpool with almost 300 sites, and the historic Millersburg Ferryboats run across the river directly to the campground. Lake Heron Retreat offers year-round camping around a small private lake, while Harrisburg East Campground provides a full-service RV park closer to the city and interstate access. For travelers who prefer a state park setting, Little Buffalo State Park lies about 30 miles west near Newport and centers on Holman Lake.

State park sites at Little Buffalo are booked through the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica, or by calling 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757). Reservations open up to 11 months ahead of arrival, and popular summer weekends fill quickly, so booking early is important for full-hookup and lakefront sites. Private campgrounds are booked directly. Camp Hebron requires a minimum of two nights and a maximum of 10 consecutive nights, and the campground is pet and alcohol free. Ferryboat Campsites and Harrisburg East Campground both handle reservations through their own websites and phone lines, and Ferryboat primarily caters to seasonal RVers, so weekend availability tightens fast in summer. For holiday weekends, planning three to six months out is advised across all sites in the area.
