Campgrounds and RV parks near Haverford College, PA

Central Philadelphia is the main draw. Independence National Historical Park covers Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell and is free to enter, though timed tickets are required for Independence Hall in peak season. The Philadelphia Museum of Art, Reading Terminal Market, and the Franklin Institute are all reachable by SEPTA regional rail from Haverford or Bryn Mawr stations. Closer to campus, Valley Forge National Historical Park offers driving loops, a visitor center, and paved trails suitable for family cycling. The Brandywine Valley south of West Chester holds Longwood Gardens and the Brandywine Museum of Art. For RV families staying at Boulder Woods Campground, Green Lane Park and Lake Nockamixon State Park sit within a short drive and offer swimming, boating, and hiking.

Camping season in the Philadelphia region runs roughly April through October. Boulder Woods Campground operates from April 1 through October 31, and most other private parks in the area follow a similar window. The Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday runs a longer season, with limited winter operation for RVs. Spring brings cool nights, wet weather, and cherry blossoms in April. Summer is the peak booking window: humidity is high, thunderstorms are common in late afternoon, and holiday weekends (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) sell out at private campgrounds well in advance. Boulder Woods specifically flags Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, and two Halloween weekends as holiday weekends with separate booking rules. Fall is generally the most comfortable stretch for RV travel here. Foliage color typically peaks in the surrounding hills from mid-October into early November. Winter closures are the norm for tent-oriented parks, and most state park campgrounds in Pennsylvania and New Jersey shift to limited or reservation-only operations after mid-December.

This is not remote wilderness camping. Sites near Haverford College sit within an easy drive of grocery stores, hospitals, and fuel, and cell service is reliable throughout the region. Traffic on the Schuylkill Expressway, I-95, and the Blue Route can be heavy on weekday commutes and Sunday evenings, so route timing matters when moving a large rig. Expect deciduous forest cover, rolling terrain, and mosquitoes in summer. Private parks in the area typically offer 30 and 50 amp hookups, potable water, dump stations, pools, camp stores, and weekend activity programming aimed at families. Pets are widely accepted on leash. Bridge tolls apply on the Delaware River crossings between Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and some low-clearance parkways in New Jersey restrict RVs, so verify your route before travel.
