Campgrounds near Hemlock Farms
Hemlock Farms sits in Pike County on the Pocono Plateau, within a short drive of two very different camping scenes: state and utility-owned lakefront parks to the west, and Delaware River campgrounds to the east. Most renters use it as a base for lake recreation, Delaware Water Gap paddling, and shoulder-season leaf-peeping.
Promised Land State Park sits on the Pocono Plateau at 1,800 feet above sea level and is surrounded by 12,464 acres of Pennsylvania's Delaware State Forest, including natural areas. The Pines - Promised Land State Park loop is the closest state-park option, while Wilsonville Recreational Area PPL on Lake Wallenpaupack offers utility-managed lakefront camping to the north.
East of Hemlock Farms, along the Delaware River corridor, Dingmans Campground, Kittatinny's K-Camp Campground, and Kittatinny Campgrounds cluster near the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River. These riverfront properties pair sites with paddling outfitters, making them practical for renters who want water access without towing a boat.
Things to do near Hemlock Farms
Promised Land State Park draws visitors for fishing and boating on two lakes, rustic cabins, camping, and miles of hiking trails through beech, oak, maple, and hemlock forest. The park's beach, boat rentals, and trail network are the main daytime draws for families staying at The Pines - Promised Land State Park.
On the Delaware River side, Kittatinny operates one of the region's longest-running paddling programs. Canoeing, kayaking, rafting, and tubing trips run on the Delaware River from riverfront bases, with quiet-water sections through the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and whitewater on the upper river. Guests at Kittatinny Campgrounds and Kittatinny's K-Camp Campground can walk to trip launches. Lake Wallenpaupack, near Wilsonville Recreational Area PPL, adds swimming, powerboating, and fishing.

Summer is the primary RV season. Lake beaches, river outfitters, and state-park loops all operate at full capacity from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and weekend sites at popular loops fill months out. The Pines Campground at the northwestern end of Promised Land Lake is open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend and offers 58 rustic campsites without electricity. Renters who need hookups should look at other loops within the park or at the private Delaware River campgrounds.
Spring and fall bring cooler nights, thinner crowds, and strong fishing and hiking conditions. Fall foliage on the Pocono Plateau typically peaks in early to mid-October and is one of the busiest non-summer windows.
Winter camping is limited. State-park loops largely close after fall, and private river campgrounds operate on seasonal calendars. Renters traveling in the cold months should confirm gate hours, water shutoffs, and whether restrooms remain open before booking.
How to book Hemlock Farms campgrounds
Pennsylvania state-park sites, including The Pines - Promised Land State Park, are reserved through the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests Reservations system online or by calling 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), Monday through Saturday from 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Reservations must be made at least 3 days ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance, with the release opening at noon Eastern Time. Book the 11-month window for summer weekends.
Wilsonville Recreational Area PPL is reserved through PPL's Lake Wallenpaupack recreation office rather than the state system. Kittatinny Campgrounds and Kittatinny's K-Camp Campground book directly through Kittatinny Canoes, and river-trip reservations can be added at the same time. Dingmans Campground takes reservations directly. Confirm RV length limits, hookup type, and pet rules on each operator's site before locking in a date.
What to expect at Hemlock Farms campgrounds
Sites in this region range from rustic to full-hookup. State-park loops tend to be wooded and quiet, with strict quiet hours and leash rules. The maximum stay in all camping areas at Promised Land State Park is 14 days during the summer season and 21 days during the off-season, and campers must vacate the park for 48 hours before setting up again.
Delaware River campgrounds are livelier and geared to paddlers, with age and group-behavior rules tied to river trips. Check each operator's minimum-age policy and holiday-weekend stay minimums before booking.
Cell service is patchy across the Pocono Plateau, black bears are active, and mosquitoes and ticks are common from late spring through early fall. Bring bear-aware food storage, insect protection, and a paper map.
