Campgrounds and RV parks near Highspire, PA

Highspire is a small borough on the Susquehanna River just southeast of Harrisburg, positioned within easy reach of Hershey, Lancaster County, and Gettysburg. For RV renters, the location works as a base for South Central Pennsylvania touring, with quick access to I-283, I-83, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The closest option is Harrisburg East Campground at 1134 Highspire Road, reached via I-283 Exit 2 (Route 441/Swatara) and Eisenhower Boulevard. It is a private, full-service park open year-round. A short drive east puts renters at Hersheypark Camping Resort, a year-round camping facility in Hershey, Pa., which has welcomed guests since 1963, along with Hershey Road Campground and Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday. For a state-park experience, Gifford Pinchot State Park sits across the river in northern York County. The park spans 2,338 acres along PA 177 between Rossville and Lewisberry, with the 340-acre Pinchot Lake as the main attraction. Together these campgrounds cover the full range: theme-park convenience, highway-adjacent overnight stops, and a lake-and-woods state park.

Reservation systems differ by operator. State parks use the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system through ReserveAmerica. At Gifford Pinchot State Park, reservations must be made 3 days ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance. Popular summer weekends and holidays fill early, so booking as soon as the window opens is advised. Hersheypark Camping Resort takes reservations through its own booking channel at HersheyparkCampingResort.com, and holiday and summer weekends sell out well in advance. Harrisburg East Campground accepts phone reservations at (717) 939-4331 and is open 365 days a year. KOA properties, including Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday, book through the KOA website or app. For any Hershey-area stay tied to a park visit, reserve the campsite before purchasing theme-park tickets to confirm dates.
