Campgrounds and RV parks near Hudson, PA

Frances Slocum State Park centers on a 165-acre lake with a boat launch, hiking trails, and a swimming pool that opens in summer. The pool provides an alternative to the lake, where swimming is not permitted. Hickory Run is built for active days out. The park contains 44 miles of hiking trails that offer a variety of experiences, including the Shades of Death Trail that follows Sand Spring Run through dense rhododendron, and a short walk on the Hawk Falls trail that leads to a popular Poconos waterfall. Boulder Field, a 16-acre National Natural Landmark, consists of rocks deposited during the last Ice Age and sits a short drive from the campground. During the summer months, swimming is available in Sand Spring Lake. For river-based trips, guided whitewater rafting on the Lehigh and cycling on the Lehigh Gorge rail-trail are accessible from Lehigh Gorge Campground and Adventure Campground at Whitewater Challengers.

State-park campgrounds in the area follow a spring-to-fall calendar. The Frances Slocum campground typically opens in mid-April and closes in mid-October. At Hickory Run, the camps are open from the second Friday in April through the third Sunday in October, with select rustic sites and cottages remaining available into deer season in December. Private campgrounds along the Lehigh Gorge generally run from spring through late fall, matching the rafting season. Summer weekends are the busiest window. The park experiences high visitation from the spring through the fall, and parking areas at trailheads may reach capacity early in the day, even during the week. Fall brings cooler nights and foliage across the Poconos, while winter closes most amenities and shifts overnight use to day-use areas. Black bears are common in Hickory Run State Park and can be dangerous, so guests should take advantage of the campground's bear-proof lockers and use caution at the site. Overnight visitors should store food and scented items securely when away from camp.

State park campgrounds in the area lean rustic-modern. Frances Slocum offers roughly 85 tent or trailer sites, some ADA accessible and some with electric hookups, plus walk-in tent sites that offer additional privacy. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring, pets are permitted on designated sites, and the campground provides flush toilets, showers, drinking water, a sanitary dump station, and a boat launch. Larger rigs should confirm site length before booking. Hickory Run is larger and more varied. There are tent sites, pet-friendly sites, organized group tenting sites, full hookups for RVs, plus deluxe camping cottages. Modern amenities include flush restrooms, hot showers, a sanitary dump station, and a camp store selling supplies, ice, and firewood, and equipment lengths up to 40 feet can be accommodated on select sites, with pull-through options available. Expect wooded, shaded sites, spotty cell service in some loops, and quiet hours enforced by park staff.
