Camping near Kennett Square, Pennsylvania
Kennett Square sits in southern Chester County, in the heart of the Brandywine Valley about an hour west of Philadelphia and a short drive north of the Delaware and Maryland borders. The area is best known as the home of Longwood Gardens and as a base for visiting the broader Brandywine region, with farmland, creek valleys, and historic estates filling the countryside.
RV travelers have several private campgrounds within a 30 to 45 minute drive. Camp Country Center is a nearby option south of Kennett Square in Hockessin, Delaware. Philadelphia / West Chester KOA Holiday in Coatesville is a full-service KOA in the Brandywine Valley, with RV sites, cabins, and family amenities. Brandywine Creek Campground in Glenmoore borders Marsh Creek State Park and sits on the East Brandywine Creek, with full-hookup RV sites open seasonally. Birchview Farm Campground, also in Coatesville, is a family-owned park with nearly 200 wooded sites, a pool, and a stocked pond. To the south, Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area in Cecil County, Maryland, offers limited reservation-based equestrian and youth-group camping on a 5,656-acre former du Pont property.
Things to do near Kennett Square
Longwood Gardens is the headline attraction and a full-day stop, with extensive conservatories, fountains, and seasonal displays year-round. The Brandywine area also offers the Brandywine Museum of Art in Chadds Ford, Winterthur and Hagley in nearby Delaware, and Valley Forge National Historical Park about a 40-minute drive north.
For outdoor time, Marsh Creek State Park has a lake for boating and fishing and miles of multi-use trails adjacent to Brandywine Creek Campground. Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area has hiking, mountain biking, and bridle trails through woods and meadows, plus a historic covered bridge. The East Brandywine Creek itself is stocked for trout fishing, and Anson B. Nixon Park within Kennett Square is a good stop for families with younger kids.

The southeastern Pennsylvania camping season is shaped by the region's cool winters and warm, humid summers. Most private parks open in mid-April and close in late October or early November. Brandywine Creek Campground runs seasonally from roughly April 1 through November 1, and Birchview Farm Campground typically operates from mid-April to mid-October. The Philadelphia / West Chester KOA Holiday runs a similar warm-season schedule.
Spring brings cool nights, frequent rain, and bloom season at Longwood Gardens, which makes April and May popular but rarely sold out. Summer is the busiest stretch: weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day fill quickly, especially at full-hookup parks, and humidity and afternoon thunderstorms are common. Fall is a strong shoulder season, with mild days, lower bug pressure, and foliage peaking in mid to late October. Winter camping options are limited; Fair Hill NRMA's reservation camping is accessible year-round but is geared to equestrian users and youth groups rather than drop-in RV travel.

How to book campgrounds near Kennett Square
Booking is handled directly with each private campground rather than through a single state system. The Philadelphia / West Chester KOA Holiday takes reservations through the KOA website and app, and KOA Rewards members receive a member rate; popular summer weekends and holiday weeks should be booked well in advance. Birchview Farm Campground reserves online through Campspot, and Brandywine Creek Campground takes reservations by phone or through its operator site.
Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area is managed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Equestrian camping is by request through DNR, and the primitive sites are reserved for organized youth groups with adult supervision, so it is not a drop-in option for a typical RV family. For peak Longwood Gardens weekends and any summer holiday, plan to book at least four to eight weeks ahead.
What to expect
Expect a mix of family-run private campgrounds rather than large national-park-style campgrounds. Sites are commonly wooded or shaded by mature trees, with a substantial share of seasonal long-term tenants alongside transient RV sites. Full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service are widely available, and most parks offer a pool, playground, laundry, and a small camp store.
Roads in and around the campgrounds are paved or well-maintained gravel and handle big rigs without trouble, though some county roads through the Brandywine Valley are narrow and winding. Cell service is generally strong on major carriers. The area is not remote: grocery stores, restaurants, and fuel are close at hand in Kennett Square, West Chester, and Coatesville. Pets are welcome at most parks on leash, and mosquitoes and ticks are typical through the warm months.

Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Kennett Square for the vast majority of rigs on RVezy. Pennsylvania only requires a Non-Commercial Class B license if a single vehicle's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating exceeds 26,000 pounds, and almost every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, and travel trailer on the platform falls well under that limit. You also need to be at least 25 years old, which is the standard approved driver age on RVezy. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home license. Just use the Delivery filter when searching. Delivery fees typically depend on mileage from the host's location. Pro tip: if you are staying at Philadelphia-West Chester KOA or Hidden Acres Campground, ask about a delivered-and-set-up package so you can head straight to a State Street dinner.

dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Reservations/Pages/default.aspxWhen is the best time to take an RV trip to Kennett Square?
Kennett Square is truly a four-season destination, but late April through mid-October is the sweet spot for a Kennett Square RV trip. Spring (April to May) brings mild 60 to 75F days and the spectacular tulip display at Longwood Gardens. Summer (June to August) runs warm and humid in the 80s, perfect for State Street strolls and outdoor concerts. Early September features the famous Mushroom Festival the weekend after Labor Day. Fall foliage peaks in mid to late October with crisp 50 to 65F days and Chester County hills lit up in red and gold. December is magical thanks to A Longwood Christmas. Pro tip: book at least three months ahead for festival weekends, the area fills fast.
weather.gov/phi/I've never rented an RV before. Is Kennett Square a good place to start?
Kennett Square is one of the friendliest spots on the East Coast for first time renting an RV. The roads through Chester County are gently rolling and well-maintained, far less stressful than driving in nearby Philadelphia, and every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup covering the generator, water systems, slide-outs, and dump procedures. Choose a Class C motorhome or campervan for the easiest handling, and consider delivery so your first time behind the wheel is just a short drive to a nearby campground. Pro tip: book a Sunday to Thursday trip your first time out, you will find Route 1 and the back roads near Longwood far quieter than weekends.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Safety/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my Kennett Square trip?
Take a deep breath, you are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Route 1 or a battery issue at Hidden Acres Campground is just a phone call away from being solved. Your host is also reachable through the RVezy app for quick questions about systems they know inside and out. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number and your host's number to your phone before you leave the driveway, and you will roll out feeling fully backed up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Kennett Square RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Absolutely, interstate travel is one of the best perks of an RV rental in Pennsylvania. From Kennett Square you can easily cross into Delaware (about 15 minutes south), Maryland (about 45 minutes), New Jersey via the Commodore Barry Bridge, or head up to New York and New England, with your RVezy protection plan valid across the United States. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and the insurance underwriter, so message your host before booking if a Canadian trip is on your wishlist. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Pro tip: a quick loop through the Delaware beaches and back is one of the most-loved short routes from Kennett Square.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat does fuel cost and how should I budget for a Kennett Square RV trip?
Fuel is one of the most predictable parts of your Kennett Square RV budget. Pennsylvania gas prices typically run in the mid-$3 range per gallon, and Class C motorhomes average 8 to 10 MPG, Class B campervans 15 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. For a typical 4-day Brandywine Valley loop covering 200 miles, plan on roughly $80 to $120 in fuel. Add about $40 to $70 per night for campsites and around $30 a day for groceries and you have a clear picture. Pro tip: fill up before heading into the borough of Kennett Square itself, stations along Route 1 near Avondale tend to be cheaper than those closer to Longwood Gardens.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Kennett Square?
For the smoothest Kennett Square RV trip, book campgrounds as early as you can. Pennsylvania state parks like French Creek and Delaware's Lums Pond open reservations up to 11 months in advance through their official state park reservation systems. Private parks like Philadelphia-West Chester KOA and Hidden Acres typically allow 6 to 12 months ahead. For Mushroom Festival weekend (the weekend after Labor Day) and A Longwood Christmas dates in December, aim for 4 to 6 months out at a minimum. Pro tip: weekday arrivals (Sunday to Thursday) are far easier to book and often $10 to $20 cheaper per night than weekend reservations.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Reservations/Pages/default.aspxWhat are the driving conditions like around Kennett Square?
Driving conditions around Kennett Square are some of the gentlest on the East Coast, with rolling two-lane country roads, light rural traffic, and well-paved highways like US Route 1 and Route 52. The historic borough itself has narrow streets and some tight parking, which is exactly why many renters opt for delivery or park at the public lot on Cypress Street and walk in. Watch for slow-moving Amish buggies on back roads west toward Lancaster, deer at dawn and dusk, and brief but heavy summer thunderstorms. Winters can bring occasional snow, so check the forecast December-February. Pro tip: avoid Route 1 northbound at 5 PM weekdays, that's the Wilmington commuter rush.

Looking for where to park an RV in Kennett Square overnight if you are between campgrounds? Some private RV parks allow short-stay dump-and-fill access for a small fee. Pro tip: top off your fresh water at a state park or KOA before heading to any farm-stay site through Hipcamp or Harvest Hosts.

Many listings include a TV, generator or solar setup, outdoor awning, and a Bluetooth stereo, and some hosts throw in bedding, kitchenware, and camp chairs. Wi-Fi is hit-or-miss, so plan to hotspot from your phone. Pro tip: read each listing's amenities carefully and message hosts to confirm anything specific like a pack-n-play, bike rack, or outdoor kitchen before booking your family RV trip Kennett Square.
