Campgrounds near Lansford, Pennsylvania
Lansford sits in Carbon County in the Panther Creek Valley of eastern Pennsylvania, on the southern edge of the Pocono Mountains and just north of Blue Mountain. The town is a short drive from historic Jim Thorpe, which serves as the regional hub for outdoor recreation, dining, and lodging. RV travelers use Lansford as a base for exploring Lehigh Gorge State Park, Hickory Run State Park, and the Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor.
Most campgrounds in the area are privately owned and cluster around Jim Thorpe and Lehighton, within roughly 15 to 25 minutes of Lansford. Options include Jim Thorpe Camping Resort, 100 Mile View Camping, Lizard Creek Campground, Stoneybrook RV Resort, and Lakewood Park Campground. Choices range from full-hookup RV resorts with pools and cabins to smaller family-owned properties along creeks and wooded ridges.
The surrounding terrain is mountainous, with elevations climbing from roughly 400 to 1,800 feet, so travelers should expect winding roads and grades on approach. Lansford itself preserves its anthracite mining history, anchored by the No. 9 Coal Mine and Museum in town.
Things to do near Lansford
Downtown Jim Thorpe draws visitors for Victorian architecture, the Asa Packer Mansion, the Old Jail Museum, and the scenic railway. In Lansford, the No. 9 Coal Mine and Museum offers a rail ride into the mountain and access to the original elevator shaft, pairing well with a Molly Maguire trolley tour.
Outdoor recreation centers on the Lehigh Gorge, where the D and L Trail runs on a gentle gravel path suited to hiking and biking. Whitewater rafting on the Lehigh River, tubing, and trout fishing are common summer activities. Mauch Chunk Lake Park offers swimming, kayaking, and paddle boating.
Hickory Run State Park lies about 20 miles north of Jim Thorpe and features the unusual Boulder Field, a National Natural Landmark, along with more than 40 miles of hiking trails. Blue Mountain Resort hosts skiing in winter and mountain biking and outdoor activities in warmer months.

Summer weekends and fall foliage season are the busiest periods. Great weekend getaway!
Kami A. - Nov 2024
Great vehicle and friendly owners. This compact camper has a lot of creature comforts while allowing one to maneuver and park in regular parking lots. The van is really easy to drive and handles really nice. The beds were comfortable and IMO accommodate 2 adults (top bed) and 1 adult or 2 kids in the lower bed. We were able to use the bike rack, too, and that worked great for a road bike and mountain bike (I think 2 mountain bikes might not fit unless the handle bars were turned on 1 of them). We didn't use the, generator, heater, hot water, shower, sink, microwave or toilet so I can't comment on them but I wish we rented it longer so we could've taken advantage of all this van has to offer. We would absolutely rent again.

How to book RV sites near Lansford
Most campgrounds in the Jim Thorpe and Lehighton area accept online reservations through their own websites or platforms such as Campspot and Spot2Nite. Jim Thorpe Camping Resort takes online bookings, and travelers who need a specific site or a rig-length match should call the campground directly. The resort currently cannot accommodate campers over 36 feet.
Lizard Creek Campground offers online reservations through its website or by phone, and also lists availability on Campspot. Stoneybrook RV Resort and Lakewood Park Campground both take reservations online.

What to expect on the ground
Sites in the region range from tightly spaced wooded pull-throughs to open patio sites at newer RV resorts. Jim Thorpe Camping Resort sits on wooded acres along Mauch Chunk Creek with a pool, playground, camp store, and arcade, though site spacing runs tight across much of the property. Stoneybrook RV Resort offers bathhouses, a camp store, a swimming pool, WiFi, and RV sites with 30 to 50 amp service plus full water and sewer connections.
Lizard Creek Campground offers RV sites with water, electric, sewer, and cable, plus a swimming pool, playground, camp store, laundry, and a stocked creek running through the property. 100 Mile View Camping is a simpler operation focused on tents and smaller rigs, with ridge-top views.
Cell coverage is generally reliable near towns but spottier in the gorge. Black bears are present in the Poconos, so food storage discipline matters. Expect winding two-lane approaches, especially near the river and gorge access points.
