Camping near Lima, Pennsylvania
Lima sits in central Delaware County, Pennsylvania, about 20 miles west of downtown Philadelphia and within a short drive of Ridley Creek State Park. The area works as an RV base for travelers who want to visit Philadelphia, the Brandywine Valley, and Longwood Gardens without parking a rig inside the city. Most overnight camping options lie in the Chester County countryside to the west or across the Delaware River in southern New Jersey.
Closer-in choices include Camp Country Center and, farther west in Chester County, Philadelphia / West Chester KOA Holiday, Brandywine Creek Campground, and Four Seasons Campgrounds. Across the river in New Jersey, Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday sits about a 20-minute drive from Center City and offers full hookups.
Ridley Creek State Park does not offer public overnight RV or tent camping, so trip planning centers on private campgrounds within a 15 to 45 minute drive of Lima. Most sites in the region are full-hookup and pull-through friendly, aimed at travelers using the campground as a base rather than a wilderness destination.
Things to do near Lima
Ridley Creek State Park is the local anchor. It covers a large stretch of Delaware County woodlands and meadows bisected by Ridley Creek, with a paved multi-use trail, stocked trout fishing, and horseback riding on designated trails. The Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation, a working farm restored to a late 18th century appearance, runs weekend interpretive programs in the warmer months.
Farther west, campers based at Brandywine Creek Campground can walk into Marsh Creek State Park for hiking, mountain biking, boat rentals, and fishing. Longwood Gardens, Valley Forge National Historical Park, and the Brandywine Battlefield are all within a short drive.
For day trips into Philadelphia, guests at Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday sit about 20 minutes from Center City by highway, while Chester County campgrounds can reach Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, and the museum district via SEPTA regional rail or a direct drive.

Spring brings mild days and reliable trout stocking on Ridley Creek, plus the reopening of interpretive programs at Ridley Creek State Park. Summer is the busiest booking window, with warm, humid weather and roughly 30 days per year in Philadelphia climbing into the 90s Fahrenheit; families should reserve KOA sites and creekside sites well in advance. Late summer and early fall can bring remnants of tropical systems moving up the East Coast.

How to book a campsite
Private campgrounds handle their own reservations. Both Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday and Philadelphia / West Chester KOA Holiday take bookings through the KOA website or by phone, and standard KOA cancellation policies require several days' notice for RV and tent sites and longer notice for cabins, lodging, and holiday stays. Brandywine Creek Campground, Camp Country Center, and Four Seasons Campgrounds take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites.
For state land, Pennsylvania DCNR facilities use the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system at 888-PA-PARKS or online, with bookings accepted up to 11 months in advance, to noon of the day of arrival. Ridley Creek State Park does not offer overnight tent or RV camping, so it is used only for day-use pavilions and programs.
What to expect on the ground
Expect a suburban-to-rural mix rather than deep backcountry. Sites at Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday include full hookups, pull-through and back-in options for large rigs, and a compact layout where neighbors sit fairly close together. Amenities include a seasonal pool typically open Memorial Day through Labor Day, a fenced off-leash dog park, a playground, a jumping pillow, and a catch-and-release fishing pond.
Brandywine Creek Campground offers full-hookup RV sites along a trout-stocked creek, plus tent sites, a pool, and a fishing pond, with direct access to Marsh Creek State Park trails. The approach roads through rural Chester County are narrow in spots, so drivers of taller rigs should plan the route carefully.
Insect repellent is useful from spring through early fall for ticks and mosquitoes on wooded trails. Cell service and grocery access are strong throughout the Lima area, and SEPTA regional rail provides a car-free way into Philadelphia from several nearby stations.
