The Loose Caboose is a 26-acre campground in Lancaster County that has served overnight, weekly, and seasonal campers for decades.
Just south of the state line, Fair Hill Natural Resources Mgmt Area is a 5,656-acre property in Cecil County, Maryland, offering primitive youth group camping and equestrian sites by reservation, along with drinking water, restrooms, and a dump station. Together these properties give RV renters a range of choices within a short drive of Lincoln University.

Southern Chester County has four distinct seasons. Summers are warm, humid, and wet, winters are cold and snowy, and skies are partly cloudy year round. Most private RV parks in the region run a spring-through-fall season, with peak demand from Memorial Day through Labor Day and again on fall-foliage weekends in October.
Spring and fall are the strongest windows for comfortable RV travel, with mild temperatures and lower humidity than midsummer. Summer months can be busy at Lancaster County parks, and Fair Hill sees heavy traffic during the Maryland 5 Star eventing competition in October and during the Cecil County Fair. Fall foliage in Lancaster and Chester counties typically peaks in mid to late October.
Winter travelers should expect limited hookups, since many family campgrounds close after October and reopen in April. Fair Hill remains accessible year round from sunrise to sunset, though access to portions of the property is restricted during scheduled events. Booking around known event weekends helps avoid closures and crowds.

How to book campgrounds near Lincoln University
Private parks in this area handle their own reservations directly through their websites or by phone. Oma's Family Campground, Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Quarryville, PA, The Loose Caboose Campground, and Roamers Retreat Campground all accept bookings directly with the operator and often require deposits for holiday weekends. Summer Saturdays and October foliage weekends fill first, so reserve several weeks out.
Fair Hill is different. The natural resources area offers two primitive camping sites reserved for recognized youth groups of campers 17 and younger, and groups must be accompanied by adult chaperones at a set ratio. Equestrian sites are reservation-only through the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. To request information or make a reservation, call the park office at 410-398-1246, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
What to expect at campgrounds in the area
Private campgrounds near Lincoln University generally offer full or partial hookups, dump stations, bathhouses, and Wi-Fi of varying reliability. Sites lean toward grass and gravel pads on rolling terrain, so leveling blocks are useful. The Loose Caboose is known for its large, secluded wooded sites, with spacious pads oriented so that neighboring rigs leave ample room for chairs and a fire.
Fair Hill is a working natural resource area rather than a resort. Amenities include drinking water, restrooms, and a dump station, with campfires permitted at designated picnic tables and generally reliable cell coverage across the property. Pets are allowed in most areas and must remain leashed. Expect quiet nights, dark skies, and basic facilities compared with the Lancaster-area RV parks.
