Campgrounds and RV parks near Lower Allen, PA

Lower Allen Township sits just south of Harrisburg in Cumberland County, within easy reach of the West Shore, the Susquehanna River, and York County's rolling farmland. RV travelers use it as a base for state parks, Hershey attractions, and Gettysburg day trips, with several campgrounds inside a 30-minute drive. Harrisburg East Campground is the closest full-service RV park, positioned near Interstate 283 with pull-through sites and hookups. Gifford Pinchot State Park sits in northern York County along PA 177 between Rossville and Lewisberry, on a 2,338-acre tract centered on the 340-acre Pinchot Lake. King's Campground and Camp Hebron offer quieter, wooded settings north and west of the city. Families traveling with kids often push a little farther east to Hersheypark Camping Resort, the closest option to the amusement park and ZooAmerica. Together these five parks cover the full range: highway-close hookups, lakeside state-park camping, family resort camping, and quiet retreat sites.

Pennsylvania state parks use a central reservation system through the DCNR portal and ReserveAmerica. Reservations must be made at least three days ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance, with sites released at noon Eastern Time. Popular loops at Gifford Pinchot, especially lakeside and pet-designated sites, should be booked as early as possible for summer weekends. Private parks such as Harrisburg East Campground, King's Campground, and Hersheypark Camping Resort take direct bookings through their own websites or by phone, and typically require a deposit at reservation. Camp Hebron, which hosts retreats alongside family camping, may have blackout dates around scheduled programs. RVers should confirm site length, hookup type, and slide-out clearance at booking, since older loops in the region were laid out before large Class A rigs became common.
