Campgrounds and RV parks near Merion Station, PA

Merion Station works as a quiet base for exploring central Philadelphia. Independence National Historical Park, the Liberty Bell, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the sports complex in South Philadelphia are all within a short drive or SEPTA regional-rail ride. The Barnes Foundation, originally located in Merion, now sits on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Outdoor options include Fairmount Park, the Schuylkill River Trail for cycling, and the Morris Arboretum. Families staying at Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday can use on-site amenities such as a pool, playground, jumping pillow, catch-and-release pond, and off-leash dog park. Lake Kandle adds swimming in a spring-fed lake plus pools during its summer operating season. Day trips reach Valley Forge, Longwood Gardens, Atlantic City, and the Jersey Shore beaches.

The main RV season in the Philadelphia region runs from spring through fall. Late April through June and September through mid-October generally offer the most comfortable camping weather, with mild days, cooler nights, and lower humidity than midsummer. Spring is also fairly wet in this area, so expect steady rain days. July and August bring hot, humid conditions with afternoon thunderstorms and peak family-travel demand. Reserve well ahead for holiday weekends, especially Independence Day, Memorial Day, and Labor Day. Several nearby parks operate on a seasonal calendar; Lake Kandle, for example, opens the last Friday of April and closes the first Sunday of October and is largely booked by seasonal members. Winter is cold with periodic snow. Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday stays open year-round and offers long-term RV stays, but many surrounding private campgrounds close between late October and April. Confirm operating dates directly with each park before planning an off-season trip.

Campgrounds in the Merion Station area are suburban and commercial in character rather than backcountry. Expect close-set sites, gravel or grass pads, full hookups on most RV sites, laundry, showers, and family amenities such as pools and playgrounds. Interior roads at some parks are narrow, so large rigs should ask about specific site dimensions when booking. Cell coverage is generally strong across the region, though on-site Wi-Fi at private parks can be inconsistent. Grocery stores, fuel, dump stations, and RV service are within a short drive of most parks in the corridor. Access to Philadelphia from the New Jersey campgrounds is via I-295 and the Walt Whitman or Ben Franklin bridges. Plan for rush-hour congestion on weekdays, and note that some central-city attractions have limited RV parking, making SEPTA or PATCO transit a practical alternative.
