Mohnton camping overview
Mohnton sits in southern Berks County, Pennsylvania, about ten minutes south of Reading and within easy reach of both the Pennsylvania Dutch countryside and the Schuylkill Highlands. The area works well as an RV base: private campgrounds cluster along the country roads between Reading and Lancaster, and a large state park with electric and full-hookup sites sits just to the southeast.
Sills Campgrounds in Mohnton itself is the closest option, with RV hookups, cabins, and a mix of overnight and seasonal sites. Sun Valley RV Campground, Adventure Bound Oak Creek, and Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Oak Creek offer resort-style amenities within a short drive, while Sun Retreats Lancaster County pushes travelers toward the Amish farmland to the west.
For a more nature-focused stay, French Creek State Park lies about a half hour east near Elverson. The park encompasses 7,730 acres in Berks and Chester counties, making it the largest block of contiguous forest between Washington D.C. and New York City, and holds roughly 200 wooded tent and trailer sites, some with electric and full hookups, plus cabins, cottages, and yurts.
Things to do near Mohnton
French Creek State Park is the main outdoor draw, with more than 35 miles of trails, two lakes for boating, and fishing for trout, bass, and panfish. The park has two lakes: 68 acre Hopewell Lake and 22 acre Scotts Run, both with boat launching areas and electric motors allowed at slow no-wake speeds. Swimming is not allowed in either lake, but there is a public pool near Hopewell Lake that is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site adjoins the state park and preserves a 19th-century iron plantation with a restored blast furnace, ironmaster's mansion, and blacksmith shop. Admission is free, and rangers run charcoal-making, blacksmithing, and seasonal apple-butter demonstrations.
West of Mohnton, Lancaster County's Amish farmland offers markets, buggy roads, and family attractions. Reading itself adds Maple Grove Raceway, the Reading Pagoda, and outlet shopping.

How to book near Mohnton
Reservations for Pennsylvania state parks, including French Creek, can be made using the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests Reservations website or by calling 888-PA-PARKS. Reservations open 11 months in advance at 12:00 PM Eastern Time, a noon release that is unusual among state park systems. Most campsites can be reserved 11 months in advance to noon of the day of arrival, while cabins, cottages, and yurts require booking at least three days ahead. Popular summer weekends and holiday cabins can sell out months in advance.
Private campgrounds near Mohnton, such as Sills Campgrounds, Sun Valley RV Campground, and the Adventure Bound Oak Creek properties, are booked directly with the operator or through common third-party platforms. Full-hookup pull-through sites for larger rigs are limited on peak weekends, so call ahead to confirm rig-length limits and any big-rig access notes on the approach roads.
What to expect on the ground in Mohnton
The landscape around Mohnton is rolling farmland and hardwood forest cut by winding two-lane roads. Some campground access roads are narrow and hilly; drivers of longer motorhomes and fifth wheels should map the final approach in advance and avoid unmarked shortcuts through Amish country, where horse-drawn buggies share the road.
At French Creek and other state land, campers cannot bring outside firewood due to invasive-insect rules; firewood is sold within the park. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited in all Pennsylvania state parks. Quiet hours are typically enforced overnight.
Cell coverage is generally reliable near town and along main highways but can drop inside wooded state park loops. Groceries, propane, and dump-station services are available in Shillington, Sinking Spring, and Morgantown.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Mohnton,%20PennsylvaniaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Mohnton, PA?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Mohnton. Pennsylvania does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for motorhomes or travel trailers used recreationally. To book on RVezy you must be at least 25 years old and meet the approved driver requirements, which are confirmed quickly through the platform during checkout. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association along with your home license. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple the process is, so you can focus on planning your Pennsylvania Dutch Country adventure instead of paperwork.

The protection plan covers eligible damage to the RV and provides financial protection during your trip. At checkout you choose the protection level that fits you best (the host doesn't pick this for you), so you can right-size your coverage. It's the safety net that makes saying yes to a Mohnton RV trip easy.

You can book your RV rental in Mohnton with confidence because RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy across the platform. There's a grace period after booking where you can cancel for a full refund, and additional protections apply for situations like major weather events, which matters in PA where winter storms or summer thunderstorms can sometimes change plans. Because the refund depends on how far out you cancel, review the cancellation terms at checkout and reach out to RVezy support if plans change. The takeaway: booking your Berks County getaway is genuinely low-risk.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Mohnton RV trip?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Mohnton is easy to find. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to instantly see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats), then message the host to share your pup's size and breed. Once you're rolling, Mohnton sits minutes from some great dog-friendly spots: French Creek State Park allows leashed pets on most trails, Nolde Forest Environmental Education Center has shaded woodland paths, and Blue Marsh Lake has dog-welcoming day-use areas. Pack a collapsible water bowl because Berks County summers can hit the high 80s, and stop by a pet store in nearby Shillington if you forget anything for your four-legged co-pilot.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/FrenchCreekStatePark/Pages/default.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Mohnton?
Yes, RV delivery in Mohnton is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you're new to RVing. Many Berks County hosts will drive the RV directly to your campsite at French Creek State Park or to your home driveway in Mohnton, Shillington, or Reading. They'll level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing you the keys. Delivery fees usually range from $2 to $4 per mile round trip, and some hosts offer free delivery within 15 to 25 miles. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see options near you, and message the host to confirm setup at your specific campsite.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Mohnton,%20PennsylvaniaCan I find an RV rental in Mohnton with unlimited mileage?

Most listings include a generous nightly mileage allowance (often 100 to 150 free miles per night) with an overage rate of around $0.35 to $0.50 per mile, but a growing number of hosts offer unlimited mileage packages, especially for trips heading to the Poconos or down to the Chesapeake Bay. From Mohnton, you're about 60 miles to Philadelphia, 90 miles to the Pocono Mountains, 55 miles to Gettysburg via Harrisburg, and 165 miles to Washington, DC, so a quick mileage check before booking saves money. pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Mohnton?
Late April through October is prime time for a Mohnton RV trip, and each season has its own appeal. Spring (April to May) brings 60s to low 70s and blooming dogwoods through Berks County. Summer (June to August) averages 80 to 88 degrees, perfect for Blue Marsh Lake swimming but humid, so AC matters. The crown jewel is fall: late September through mid-October delivers excellent foliage along Hawk Mountain and the Oley Valley, with crisp 50 to 65 degree days. Winter RVing is possible with a four-season rig, but most casual renters wrap up by early November. Insider tip: book the first two weekends of October a full 6 months out because Berks County foliage weekends sell out fast.

First time renting an RV? You're going to be fine, and Mohnton is a great place to start. Your host will give you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering driving, leveling, water, power, and waste systems, and they're a text away during your trip. The roads around Mohnton are mostly easy two-lanes and gentle hills through farm country, so you can build confidence before tackling anything bigger. Avoid downtown Reading's tighter streets and stick to Route 222, Route 422, and I-176 for smooth sailing. If you're nervous about driving, choose delivery and skip the road test entirely. Pro tip: take 20 minutes in an empty parking lot to practice turns before heading to your campground.

Take a breath, you're covered. Your host is also a direct lifeline for quirky questions about their specific RV, and RVezy support is available to help coordinate any larger repairs so your Mohnton RV trip stays on track.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take an RV road trip from Mohnton across state lines?
Yes, an RV road trip from Mohnton opens up the entire Mid-Atlantic. You can freely cross into New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, and beyond, and your RVezy protection plan travels with you across US state lines. Popular routes include Mohnton to the Jersey Shore (about 110 miles to Cape May), Mohnton to the Adirondacks (around 300 miles), Mohnton to Shenandoah National Park (about 200 miles), and Mohnton to Acadia in Maine for the ambitious (around 550 miles). Travel into Canada or Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals, so plan your route within the US and confirm with the host so mileage and one-way logistics line up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat's the fuel cost like for a motorhome rental in Mohnton?
Budgeting fuel for your motorhome rental in Mohnton is straightforward once you know the numbers. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 MPG, Class A averages 6 to 10 MPG, campervans hit 15 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Pennsylvania gas prices tend to run slightly above the national average due to state fuel taxes. For a 300-mile weekend loop through Lancaster, Hershey, and back to Mohnton in a Class C, budget roughly $100 to $140 in fuel at current prices. Pro tip: gas in nearby Sinking Spring or Shillington is often cheaper than the stations right off I-176.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Mohnton?
For peak weekends, the earlier the better. French Creek State Park and other Pennsylvania state parks open reservations 11 months in advance through the official PA State Parks system, and prime summer and fall weekends genuinely sell out months ahead. For private campgrounds like Robin Hill, Blue Rocks, or Sill's Family Campground, 2 to 4 months out is usually safe, though holiday weekends like Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day fill up by spring. Midweek stays are far more flexible and you can often score a spot a week out. Insider tip: if French Creek is booked, check Hickory Run State Park or Locust Lake State Park, both within 90 minutes of Mohnton and often have last-minute openings.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the driving conditions like around Mohnton?
Driving an RV around Mohnton is genuinely manageable, even for first-timers. The area's main routes (Route 222, Route 422, I-176, and the PA Turnpike I-76) are wide, well-maintained, and RV-friendly. A few things to watch: downtown Reading has some narrow one-ways and low railroad bridges, so stick to the bypass; the rolling hills of Oley Valley are scenic but include some 6 to 8 percent grades, so downshift; and winter (December through February) can bring snow and ice, so most rentals operate April through November. Summer thunderstorms can pop up fast in July and August. Insider tip: avoid driving through Lancaster's Amish country on Sunday afternoons when buggy traffic and tourists slow Route 340 to a crawl.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxWhat hookups and amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Mohnton?
Campgrounds near Mohnton offer a healthy mix of amenity levels, so you can pick what suits you. French Creek State Park provides electric hookups, potable water fill stations, a dump station, hot showers, and flush toilets, though no individual sewer hookups at sites. Robin Hill and Blue Rocks both offer full hookup sites (water, electric, sewer) plus Wi-Fi, pools, and laundry at many sites. Most private campgrounds in Berks County also sell propane on-site. Pro tip: top off your fresh water tank and dump your gray and black tanks before leaving any campground because the next dump station along Route 222 might be 30+ miles away.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/FrenchCreekStatePark/Pages/default.aspxWhat's inside a typical RV rental in Mohnton?

Many listings include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and folding chairs. Wi-Fi is hit or miss because cell coverage drops in pockets of the Oley Valley and around French Creek, so hotspot devices are a popular add-on. Pro tip: filter by sleep count and RV type on RVezy to match your group size to the right rig before booking.

You'll pay the rental total upfront with a major credit or debit card, and a refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card before pickup (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV). As long as the RV comes back in the condition it left, the hold is released after your trip ends. To avoid any deposit issues, do a quick photo walkaround at pickup and dropoff with your host and follow the listing's rules on smoking, pets, and tank dumping. Easy, transparent, and hassle-free.

You're within an hour of kid-magnet destinations: Hersheypark (45 miles west), Crayola Experience in Easton (50 miles northeast), Cabela's flagship store in Hamburg (20 miles north), and the Reading Public Museum nearby. Spend a night at French Creek State Park for swimming and easy hiking, then head to Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster (35 miles) for a classic family day.
