Campgrounds and RV parks near Moscow, PA

Water recreation drives most trips. Tobyhanna Lake supports swimming at a guarded beach, paddling, and small-boat fishing, and the park keeps a five-mile multi-use trail circling the water for hiking and biking. Lake Wallenpaupack, reached through Ironwood Point Recreation Area PPL, is the region's largest lake and better suited to powerboats, sailing, and larger fishing craft. Off the water, families use Mount Pocono Campground and Hemlock Campground and Cottages as bases for nearby attractions such as Kalahari and Great Wolf Lodge water parks, the Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, and short hikes at Gouldsboro State Park nearby. Bring bikes: quiet campground loops and rail-trail segments in the area suit kids still building road confidence.

The main camping window at state-run sites is fixed. Tobyhanna State Park is a campground open between April and mid-October, and neighboring private parks such as Three Pines Campground and Mount Pocono Campground generally follow a similar April through October pattern. Winter camping in the immediate Moscow area is limited. Summer is the busiest stretch. July and August bring warm days, comfortable lake temperatures, and full weekends, so book several weeks ahead for holiday periods. Late June and early September offer thinner crowds with similar weather. Fall foliage typically peaks in the first half of October across the Poconos, and campgrounds book heavily on peak color weekends. RV travelers should also plan around a multi-year lake project. Tobyhanna Lake at Tobyhanna State Park is to be drawn down in the spring of 2027 through December 31st, 2028 to perform maintenance work to the dam and dredging work on the lakebed. All parts of the lake, stream bed, boat launches, and swimming area will be closed to the public during this time. This includes all swimming, boating, and fishing activities. All recreation trails and the Modern Camping Area will remain open.

Facilities at the state park are standard rather than resort-style. Within the campground, campers will find communal water spigots, flushable toilets, hot showers, laundry facilities, and a dump station. Phone reception is available throughout the campground and pets are allowed at specific sites. Hookups include 50-amp, 30-amp, dry camping, and partial hookups, though full sewer hookups are not offered at the campsite. Private parks in the Moscow and Mount Pocono corridor typically offer full hookups, laundry, playgrounds, and Wi-Fi. Cell coverage is generally reliable near the interstates and spottier deep in wooded loops. Alcohol is prohibited in Pennsylvania state parks, including the campground, so private parks are the choice for groups that want that flexibility.
