Campgrounds and RV parks near New Berlin, PA

Penns Creek is the main draw. The creek supports kayaking and tubing, and it is one of Pennsylvania's better-known wild trout fisheries, with public access points scattered through Union and Snyder counties. Little Mexico Campground also has three ponds for fishing on its property. Day trips fan out in every direction. R.B. Winter State Park offers a swimming beach on Halfway Lake, hiking, and shaded picnic areas within Bald Eagle State Forest. Knoebels Amusement Resort in Elysburg is a common family stop, and downtown Lewisburg adds shopping, restaurants, and small museums. On-site amenities at Little Mexico include a large above-ground pool, three fishing ponds, and two playgrounds, which helps on rainy afternoons or slow travel days when families do not want to break camp.

The private campgrounds around New Berlin generally run a spring-through-fall season, typically opening in April and closing in late October. Exact dates vary by property, and shoulder-season openings can be limited to weekends only, so confirm directly before booking early April or late October dates. Winter RV camping options are scarce in this part of Pennsylvania, though nearby R.B. Winter State Park keeps its campground open from the second Friday in April into mid-December. Summer weekends, especially Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day, book out weeks in advance at family parks like Little Mexico Campground and Hidden Valley Camping Resort. Themed weekends, Halloween weekends in October, and fall foliage weekends also fill early. Weekday sites are usually easier to secure. Penns Creek water levels are highest in spring after snowmelt and heavy rain, which is prime time for kayaking longer stretches but also raises hazard for casual tubers. Late summer flows are gentler and better suited to families floating with kids. Fly-fishing pressure peaks during the green drake hatch in late spring.

Roads into the New Berlin area are a mix of two-lane state routes and narrow country roads. US 15 and I-80 handle the main approach, but the last few miles to a campground often involve tighter turns and rural bridges. Larger rigs should follow the campground's posted directions rather than default GPS routing. Sites range from open, sunny pull-throughs to shaded creekside spots. Little Mexico Campground offers full-hookup, creekside, and basic sites, with 30 and 50 amp electric, big-rig-friendly pull-through and back-in options, cabins, and seasonal sites. Cell coverage is generally decent on major carriers but can drop in the deeper valleys. Expect a family-park atmosphere on summer weekends, with planned activities, campfires, and kids on bikes. Quieter, more rustic experiences are easier to find midweek or in the shoulder seasons.
