Camping near New Tripoli, Pennsylvania
New Tripoli sits in western Lehigh County along the Blue Mountain ridge in eastern Pennsylvania, roughly 15 miles northwest of Allentown and within easy reach of I-78 and PA Route 22. The area functions as a practical RV base for the Lehigh Valley, the Appalachian Trail corridor, and the southern edge of the Pocono region.
Campground options close to town lean toward family-oriented private parks with full hookups and cabins. Allentown KOA Journey sits directly in New Tripoli, while Stoneybrook RV Resort, Pine Hill RV Park, and Robin Hill RV Resort and Campground serve travelers looking for pools, playgrounds, and organized weekend activities. Lizard Creek Campground offers a more wooded setting closer to the Lehigh Gap and Jim Thorpe.
State-park camping is available within a short drive, including Hickory Run State Park to the north. Together, the private and public options cover big-rig pull-throughs, back-in electric sites, tent pads, and cabin rentals.
Things to do around New Tripoli
Outdoor activity centers on the Kittatinny Ridge. The Appalachian Trail crosses just north of town, and Hawk Mountain Sanctuary sits along the ridge as one of the country's premier hawk-watching sites, with tens of thousands of raptors passing over the North Lookout each fall. Leaser Lake offers small-boat fishing, and the Lehigh River draws whitewater rafters and tubers near Jim Thorpe.
Families staying at Allentown KOA Journey or the other nearby parks are within short driving distance of Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom, the Lehigh Valley Zoo, Crayola Experience in Easton, and Cabela's in Hamburg. Wineries, breweries, and antique shops along the Route 100 and Route 309 corridors round out rainy-day plans.

Most private campgrounds in the New Tripoli area operate on a spring-through-fall schedule. Allentown KOA Journey, for example, opens April 1 and closes November 1, and other nearby private parks follow a similar April-to-October window. Winter overnight RV camping in the immediate area is limited, so cold-weather travelers should confirm dates directly with each park.
Summer is the busiest stretch. Weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day fill quickly, particularly around July 4 and during Musikfest in nearby Bethlehem. Pool seasons at family parks typically run Memorial Day through Labor Day. Sites near water or with full hookups tend to book first.
Spring and fall are quieter and often more comfortable for hiking. Fall foliage generally peaks in the second and third weeks of October along the Blue Mountain and Pocono ridges, which also coincides with the peak of the hawk migration at Hawk Mountain between mid-August and mid-December.

Great weekend getaway!
Kami A. - Nov 2024
Great vehicle and friendly owners. This compact camper has a lot of creature comforts while allowing one to maneuver and park in regular parking lots. The van is really easy to drive and handles really nice. The beds were comfortable and IMO accommodate 2 adults (top bed) and 1 adult or 2 kids in the lower bed. We were able to use the bike rack, too, and that worked great for a road bike and mountain bike (I think 2 mountain bikes might not fit unless the handle bars were turned on 1 of them). We didn't use the, generator, heater, hot water, shower, sink, microwave or toilet so I can't comment on them but I wish we rented it longer so we could've taken advantage of all this van has to offer. We would absolutely rent again.

How to book campgrounds near New Tripoli
Private parks such as Allentown KOA Journey, Stoneybrook RV Resort, Pine Hill RV Park, Robin Hill RV Resort and Campground, and Lizard Creek Campground take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For summer weekends, booking eight to twelve weeks ahead is a reasonable target, and longer for holiday weekends and full-hookup pull-throughs that fit larger rigs.
For Pennsylvania state park campgrounds, reservations are handled through the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system and can be made up to 11 months in advance, with new inventory releasing at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Popular parks in the region can sell out within minutes of release, so setting a calendar reminder for the exact release date is worthwhile.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around New Tripoli is rolling farmland broken by wooded ridges, with the Blue Mountain rising to the north. Roads leading to campgrounds are generally paved two-lane routes, though the final approach to some parks involves narrower rural roads. GPS routing can suggest awkward exits; check each campground's posted driving directions before the final leg.
Expect humid summers with afternoon thunderstorms, cool nights in spring and fall, and reliable cell coverage across most of the Lehigh Valley. Full-hookup sites are common at private parks in the area, along with dump stations, laundry, camp stores, pools, and playgrounds. State-park sites tend toward electric-only or primitive, so plan water and waste stops accordingly.

Winters get cold (20s and 30s with occasional snow), so most rigs go off-line. Pro tip: book a New Tripoli RV trip for late September, the leaves are turning, the kids are back in school, and campground rates drop noticeably.
weather.gov/ctp/I've never driven an RV before. Is this really doable in New Tripoli?
Yes, first time renting an RV in New Tripoli is one of the friendlier places to start in the Northeast. The roads around New Tripoli are mostly wide, two-lane country routes through Lynn Township farmland, perfect for getting comfortable behind the wheel before merging onto I-78. If you'd rather skip driving entirely, choose a host who offers delivery and setup at your campsite. Pro tip: book a travel trailer or smaller Class C for your first trip, they're easier to maneuver on the winding ridge roads near Blue Mountain than a full Class A.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Safety/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV on my trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection package, so a flat tire on PA-309, a dead battery at Hickory Run, or a propane issue at the Allentown KOA is a single phone call away from help. Your host is also typically reachable by message or phone for quick questions like "how do I reset the inverter?" And RVezy's support team is available before, during, and after every trip. Summer thunderstorms can roll through fast, so keep an eye on radar. Pro tip: avoid driving through downtown Allentown or Bethlehem in a big rig during weekday rush hour, stick to I-78 and PA-100 instead.

visitpa.com/things-to-do/outdoor-adventureHow do payment and the security deposit work for a New Tripoli RV rental?
Payment is simple and entirely through RVezy, never cash to the host. You pay the trip total at booking (rental, fees, taxes, and your chosen protection package), and your card is charged securely on the platform. A refundable security deposit, separate from your booking payment and usually $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig, is pre-authorized (not charged) on your card before pickup and released after the trip assuming the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid issues, take date-stamped photos at pickup and dropoff, follow the host's mileage and generator rules, and dump tanks if required. Pro tip: review the listing's house rules before you book so there are zero surprises and your deposit comes right back.
