The prime RV window runs from mid-spring through late fall. State-park camping at Gifford Pinchot follows a fixed season: the main camping season ranges from the second Friday in April until the third Sunday in October, and during this time the full range of facilities is typically available, with limited camping outside those dates. Private parks around Hershey and Harrisburg extend the calendar. Harrisburg East Campground operates year round, and Hersheypark Camping Resort also runs year round.
Summer is peak. Hersheypark Camping Resort features two swimming pools and a wading pool, a Family Fun Center, two playgrounds, self-service laundry, and a country store, and family programming runs on select weekends. Weekends near Hershey concert dates and school breaks fill first.
Winter still works for hard-sided RVs, but water access is limited: at Hersheypark Camping Resort, once temperatures drop below 30°F over the course of three days, water will be shut off immediately through April 1, though the Historic Landis Barn bath house and 2-Bedroom Deluxe Cabins have water year round.

How to book campgrounds near Oberlin
Pennsylvania state parks use a single reservation portal. For Gifford Pinchot State Park, reservations must be made 3 days ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance through the Pennsylvania State Parks system on ReserveAmerica, and popular summer weekends often clear the calendar the day the 11-month window opens. Beginning in 2027, the campground at Gifford Pinchot State Park is undergoing a major shower house renovation project, and during this time portions of the campground will be temporarily closed while other areas remain open as work is completed in phases.
Private parks book directly. Hersheypark Camping Resort takes reservations through the Hershey resorts system on its own site, and Harrisburg East Campground, Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday, and Hershey Road Campground all take reservations through their websites or by phone. For summer Hershey stays, book several months out.
What to expect on-site
Expect a mix of highway-adjacent RV parks and lakeside state-park sites. Harrisburg East is a private RV park offering full hookups, laundry, bathhouse, swimming pool, dump station, and propane for sale, with hook-up boxes at each site and mature shade trees lining the rows. Some road noise is common given the interstate location.
At Gifford Pinchot, sites are built for larger rigs. All sites feature macadam pads that accommodate everything from tents to large motorhomes, many sites include electric hookups with 20, 30, or 50 amp service, and 22 sites offer full connections with water, sewer, and electricity, with modern bathhouses and a sanitary dump station.
Hersheypark Camping Resort adds theme-park perks: shuttle service, extended park hours, and family programming on select weekends.
