Campgrounds near Palmer Heights, Pennsylvania
Palmer Heights sits in Northampton County in Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley, just outside Easton and a short drive from the Delaware River. The area works well as an RV base for exploring the valley, the Pocono foothills to the north, and Bucks County to the south. Interstates 78 and 33 keep most private campgrounds within a 30 to 45 minute drive.
Private RV parks dominate the immediate surroundings. Evergreen Lake Campground and Ringing Rocks Family Campground offer family-oriented sites with hookups, while Colonial Woods Family Resort and Mountainview Campground provide larger seasonal properties with pools and activity schedules. Moyers Lake and Campground rounds out the nearby options with lake access.
Public camping is limited in the immediate valley, so travelers who want state park sites typically head northwest toward Hickory Run State Park or west to Locust Lake. Renters should plan on booking private parks for weekend stays and expect the closest sites to fill early during summer holiday weekends.
Things to do near Palmer Heights
The Delaware River corridor is the main draw. Easton's Hugh Moore Park and the Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor offer towpath cycling, canal boat rides, and flatwater paddling. Jacobsburg State Park, just north of Palmer Heights, has trail networks for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding.
Families often build a day around Crayola Experience in downtown Easton or the Da Vinci Science Center in Allentown. Ringing Rocks County Park in Bucks County is a short drive south and gives kids a memorable stop at its boulder field.
For bigger outings, Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom sit in Allentown, and the Pocono Mountains, with waterfalls at Bushkill and hiking at Hickory Run, are roughly an hour north. Local farm stands and the Easton Public Market handle resupply.

Most private campgrounds around Palmer Heights operate from mid-April through mid-to-late October, tracking the standard Pennsylvania season. A handful stay open for limited winter camping, but water is typically shut off once overnight temperatures drop consistently below freezing.
Summer is peak season. July and August bring warm, humid days in the 80s Fahrenheit with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day) fill nearby parks well in advance. Late May and early September offer similar conditions with lighter crowds.
Fall is the strongest shoulder season. Foliage typically peaks in mid-October across the Lehigh Valley and Poconos, drawing weekend traffic to scenic drives and state parks. Spring can be wet and muddy, with snowmelt runoff into April, but trails and rivers run high and campground rates are lower. Winter travel is possible but limited, and Nor'easters can drop significant snow on short notice.

Great weekend getaway!
Kami A. - Nov 2024
Great vehicle and friendly owners. This compact camper has a lot of creature comforts while allowing one to maneuver and park in regular parking lots. The van is really easy to drive and handles really nice. The beds were comfortable and IMO accommodate 2 adults (top bed) and 1 adult or 2 kids in the lower bed. We were able to use the bike rack, too, and that worked great for a road bike and mountain bike (I think 2 mountain bikes might not fit unless the handle bars were turned on 1 of them). We didn't use the, generator, heater, hot water, shower, sink, microwave or toilet so I can't comment on them but I wish we rented it longer so we could've taken advantage of all this van has to offer. We would absolutely rent again.

Great holiday weekend in Dalton's camper! He was an amazing host, and everything was as described. We had the camper delivered and picked up by Mike, who was also awesome! Thanks for a great weekend!
Stephanie H. - Sep 2026
Dalton's Jayco is the perfect option for a small family. There's plenty of sleeping options for the kids, and the tub is a great bonus for bath time. The camper is well maintained and everything was functional. Delivery and pick up to the site went smoothly. We're hoping it's available next year too!

How to book campgrounds in the area
Private campgrounds around Palmer Heights take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Evergreen Lake Campground, Ringing Rocks Family Campground, Colonial Woods Family Resort, Mountainview Campground, and Moyers Lake and Campground all handle bookings independently, and most require a deposit at the time of reservation.
For Pennsylvania state parks in the surrounding region, reservations go through the state's central system at pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com, which opens the booking window up to 11 months in advance at noon Eastern time. Popular weekends sell out quickly once the window opens.
RV renters should confirm site length, hookup type (30 vs 50 amp), and slide-out clearance before booking, and check whether the park allows pets, generators, or campfires during dry spells.
What to expect on the ground
The terrain around Palmer Heights is rolling farmland and wooded ridges rather than dramatic wilderness. Most private campgrounds sit on gently sloped ground with a mix of pull-through and back-in sites, gravel or grass pads, and full or partial hookups. Cell coverage is generally strong across the valley.
Expect family-focused amenities at the nearby parks: pools, playgrounds, camp stores, and weekend activity schedules aimed at kids. Tree cover is common but not universal, so bringing shade or an awning helps in July heat.
Grocery, propane, and dump station access is easy given the proximity to Easton, Bethlehem, and Nazareth. Traffic on Route 22 and Route 33 can back up on Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings, so travelers should plan arrivals and departures accordingly. Black bears are present in the region, so food storage rules apply.
