Campgrounds and RV parks near Paxtonia, PA

Paxtonia is an unincorporated community in Lower Paxton Township, Dauphin County, sitting just northeast of Harrisburg in south-central Pennsylvania. The area serves as a practical base for RV travel because it sits at the crossroads of I-81, I-83, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76), with US 22 and US 322 feeding into Hershey, Lancaster, and Gettysburg. Most RV renters stage here to visit Hersheypark, downtown Harrisburg, and the Susquehanna River corridor. Hersheypark Camping Resort sits closest to the theme park itself, while Harrisburg East Campground and Hershey Road Campground offer easy interstate access for shorter stopovers. Camp Hebron, north of the city along the Appalachian Trail in Halifax, trades highway convenience for a quieter wooded setting on 340 acres. Families typically pair a Hershey day with a state-capital visit or a day trip to Lancaster County Amish country. Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday extends the same base south toward Lancaster attractions. Sites in the region range from full-hookup pull-throughs suited to larger motorhomes to primitive tent pads.

Most campgrounds in the Paxtonia and Hershey area are privately owned, so reservations are handled directly through each property's website or phone line rather than a central system like Recreation.gov or Pennsylvania State Parks. Hersheypark Camping Resort, Harrisburg East Campground, Hershey Road Campground, and Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday all book online. Camp Hebron takes reservations through its own site. Campground stays there are a minimum of 2 nights and a maximum of 10 consecutive nights, and the property is pet and alcohol free. Summer weekends and Hersheypark event dates sell out early, so book six to twelve weeks ahead for June through August and holiday weekends. Confirm rig-length limits, hookup type (30 vs. 50 amp), and pet policies at booking.
