Campgrounds near Pittston
Pittston sits in Luzerne County between Scranton and Wilkes-Barre in northeastern Pennsylvania, with the Susquehanna River running through town and the Pocono Mountains rising to the east. RV travelers use the area as a base for state park camping, whitewater on the Lehigh River, and rail-trail riding on the D&L network.
The closest public option is Frances Slocum State Park, a 1,035-acre park in Luzerne County built around a 165-acre horseshoe-shaped lake, roughly ten miles from Wilkes-Barre. Lackawanna State Park lies about ten miles north of Scranton and centers on the 198-acre Lackawanna Lake, with a modern campground offering full-hookup, electric, non-electric, and walk-to sites plus camping cottages and yurts.
Private options round out the mix. Highland Campgrounds and Benton Hills Mobile Home Park handle nearby RV stays, while Lehigh Gorge Campground near White Haven offers 30-amp and 50-amp full-hookup sites at the doorstep of Lehigh Gorge State Park and the Pocono Mountains.
Things to do near Pittston
Water is the main draw. Frances Slocum's lake is open to boating and fishing, with canoe and kayak rentals available and a swimming pool on site during summer. Lackawanna Lake supports boating, fishing, and swimming, and trails wind through the surrounding forest for hiking and mountain biking.
For bigger adventure, Lehigh Gorge State Park covers more than 6,000 acres along the Lehigh River. The Lehigh Gorge Trail follows about 26 miles of former rail bed on a flat, crushed-stone surface popular with hikers and cyclists, and outfitters near the park run guided whitewater trips timed to scheduled dam releases from Francis E. Walter Dam.
Off the trails, Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton and museums in Wilkes-Barre give families indoor options on rainy days.

The Pennsylvania state park campground season anchors trip planning. Both Frances Slocum and Lackawanna open in mid-April and close in mid-October, so shoulder-season RV trips outside that window are limited to private campgrounds like Lehigh Gorge Campground, which operates year-round.
Summer is peak. Weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day fill fast, especially at Lackawanna's Fox Run, Maple Lane, and Carpenter Town loops. Booking early is essential for holiday weekends and pet-friendly sites, which are limited to designated loops. Whitewater rafting on the Lehigh River peaks on scheduled release days from Francis E. Walter Dam, and those dates draw heavy demand at nearby campgrounds.
Fall brings cool nights, lower humidity, and hardwood color through October, and it is the easiest time to find a last-minute site. Winter closes the state park campgrounds, but Lehigh Gorge State Park and Lackawanna State Park remain open for day use, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice fishing when conditions allow. A phased shower house rehabilitation is planned at Lackawanna's campground, so some loops may be blocked from reservations during the project.

How to book campgrounds near Pittston
Pennsylvania state parks use a single reservation system. Sites at Frances Slocum and Lackawanna can be booked online through the DCNR reservation portal or by calling 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757). Most sites can be reserved up to 11 months in advance and, in many cases, for same-day arrival.
Some site types have stricter windows. Certain reservations at Lackawanna must be made at least three days ahead of arrival, and the organized group tenting site at Frances Slocum also requires a three-day lead time.
Private campgrounds such as Highland Campgrounds, Benton Hills Mobile Home Park, and Lehigh Gorge Campground book directly through the operator by phone or website. For summer weekends and dam-release dates, reserve as far ahead as possible.

Payment is straightforward and fully handled through RVezy: you pay securely with a credit card when you book, and your host never handles cash. Amounts vary by listing but are clearly shown before you confirm, so there are no surprises. To keep the return smooth, follow the host's checklist (refuel, empty tanks, clean up), snap photos at pickup and dropoff, and report anything unusual right away. Pro tip: read the listing details thoroughly so you know exactly what is expected for a deposit free return.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Pittston during winter?
Yes, winter RV rentals are available in Pittston and they unlock some of the region's most magical experiences, from snowy Pocono getaways to skiing at Montage Mountain (about 15 minutes away) or Camelback Resort (about 40 minutes east).
