Campgrounds and RV parks near Pomeroy, PA

The Brandywine Valley anchors most local itineraries. Longwood Gardens, Winterthur, Hagley, and the Brandywine River Museum cluster within a 30-minute drive, and Valley Forge National Historical Park sits a short drive northeast. Families heading west reach Lancaster Amish Country quickly, with stops like Strasburg Railroad, Kitchen Kettle Village, Dutch Wonderland, and Sight & Sound Theatres. Hibernia County Park in Coatesville offers wooded trails and a stocked children's pond, while French Creek State Park, about half an hour north, has more than 35 miles of trails across nearly 7,900 acres and two lakes for fishing and seasonal paddling. The park's swimming pool at Hopewell Lake runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Camping near Pomeroy is strongly seasonal. Most tent and family campgrounds in the West Chester area operate from spring through October, closing in late fall because of freezing winter temperatures. Spring Gulch RV Campground typically runs from early April through early November, while Birchview Farm Campground and the Philadelphia / West Chester KOA Holiday operate spring through fall. The Loose Caboose Campground keeps many sites open year-round, making it one of the few off-season options in Lancaster County. Late May through October is the practical window for RV travel. Late May and June bring temperatures in the 70s and low 80s, blooming gardens in the Brandywine Valley, and lush countryside. July and August are warm, humid, and the wettest stretch of the year, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. September and October are widely considered prime, with cooler nights, fall foliage, and harvest-season events across Amish Country, including themed weekends at Spring Gulch. Weekends from Memorial Day through mid-October fill up well in advance.

Expect rolling farmland, wooded ridges, and narrow back roads shared with Amish buggies west of Pomeroy. Sites at the larger parks are typically gravel pads with picnic tables and fire rings; full hookups are common but not universal, and a few campgrounds sit on noticeably sloped terrain, so confirm site leveling for larger rigs. Spring Gulch sits on 115 acres with two pools (one Olympic-sized, one heated), a stocked fishing lake, and a spring-fed lake with a sandy beach. Birchview Farm Campground includes a pool, stocked pond, and walking trails. The Loose Caboose offers spacious wooded sites and views of Amish farmland and passing trains on the Amtrak / Norfolk Southern mainline. Cell coverage is generally reliable, and grocery stops are easy along US-30 and Route 41.
