Campgrounds and RV parks near Pottsgrove, PA

French Creek State Park offers boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, hiking, biking, picnicking, horseback riding, disc golf and wildlife viewing. Hopewell Lake and Scotts Run Lake are popular for boating, with a boat launch provided at each. Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site sits adjacent to the park and is a common half-day stop for families. Closer to town, the Schuylkill River Trail runs through Pottstown for cycling and walking. Longwood Gardens, the Daniel Boone Homestead, and the outlets at Reading are all within roughly an hour by car, which makes rainy-day planning easier for families traveling by RV.

The main camping window in this region runs from spring through late fall. The French Creek State Park campground operates on an extended season that runs into early January, which gives a longer shoulder season than many northern parks. Private campgrounds near Pottsgrove typically run from April into October, with the busiest weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day. Summer brings warm, humid weather and the highest demand for sites with electric hookups and pool access. Rainfall is quite evenly distributed throughout the year but tends to be heavier during the late spring and early summer months, so lower-lying sites may hold moisture after storms. Fall is popular for foliage in the Hopewell Big Woods and generally offers cooler nights and fewer bugs. Winter camping is limited. At French Creek, one loop typically remains open year-round, but water service at many sites is shut off in the cold months, so RV renters should confirm hookup availability before booking a late-season trip.

Expect wooded, rolling terrain rather than open pull-through pads. At French Creek, the campground has roughly 200 single-family campsites set in a wooded area, plus yurts, cabins and cottages available for rent, with a portion of sites offering electric hookups and a smaller number offering full hookups. Amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers and a dump station. Private parks in the area generally offer more full-hookup sites, pools, playgrounds, and camp stores, which suits families renting an RV for the first time. Sites can be tight under mature trees, so measure your rig and request a pull-through if you are new to backing in.
