Campgrounds and RV parks near Pughtown, PA

French Creek State Park draws most of the outdoor activity in the area, with more than 35 miles of hiking, biking, and horseback trails, plus boating on Hopewell Lake and Scotts Run Lake using electric motors only. The park is also known for mountain-bike trails and disc golf, and Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site, a restored early-1800s iron-making complex, sits surrounded by the park. On the Brandywine side, the Philadelphia / West Chester KOA Holiday offers a swimming pool, mini-golf, a jumping pillow, and family activities during the warm season. Fishing is popular on the state-park lakes, which hold bass and panfish, and Scotts Run Lake has a long history with smallmouth bass. Historic sites, wineries, and the town of West Chester are all within short drives.

The main campground loops at French Creek State Park operate from March through the first weekend in January, while cabins, cottages, and yurts stay open year-round. Peak camping demand runs April through October, and holiday weekends fill fastest. Private parks like the Philadelphia / West Chester KOA Holiday generally operate on a warm-season schedule, with pool and water amenities typically running from late spring through early fall. Spring brings variable weather: warm afternoons alternate with cold nights into May, and rainy stretches of several days are common. Summers are warm and humid with afternoon thunderstorms, and tropical remnants occasionally track through southeastern Pennsylvania in late summer and early fall, bringing heavy rain. Fall is a strong shoulder season, with cool nights and colorful foliage through October. Winter camping at French Creek is limited to hard-sided rentals; snow, ice, and freezing rain are all possible, and daytime temperatures near or below freezing are common from December into early March.

Expect wooded, rolling terrain rather than open, sun-baked RV parks. French Creek State Park sites are shaded and spaced through the forest, with a mix of non-electric, electric, and full-hookup sites, modern restrooms with warm showers, and a dump station. Alcohol is prohibited in all Pennsylvania state parks, and campers are strongly encouraged to buy firewood locally rather than transport it in, due to spotted lanternfly quarantines across much of the state. Private parks trend more amenity-driven, with full-hookup pull-throughs, cabins, laundry, and camp stores. Cell coverage is generally usable across the area but can be spotty deep in the state-park loops. Quiet hours at state-park sites run from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m., and pets are allowed at designated sites with standard leash rules.
