Campgrounds near Reedsville, Pennsylvania
Reedsville sits in the Kishacoquillas Valley of Mifflin County in central Pennsylvania, roughly 20 miles from State College and about the same distance from Lewistown and Huntingdon. The area is ringed by the ridges of the Seven Mountains region and edged by Rothrock State Forest, which puts an unusual number of RV-friendly campgrounds within a short drive of a small town.
Options range from private, hookup-equipped parks to a classic state-park campground. Hartman Center Campground and Seven Mountains Campground sit closest to the town, and Waterside Campground and RV Park adds a full-service option nearby. Greenwood Furnace State Park, roughly a half-hour drive west along PA 305, is the main public campground in the area.
Campers looking for larger, event-style camping can also head to the Centre County Grange Fairgrounds in nearby Centre Hall, which opens for camping around select events. Together these five properties cover the practical spectrum for an RV trip: quiet forest sites, family parks with amenities, and rally-friendly grounds.
Things to do near Reedsville
Rothrock State Forest wraps around the region and offers hiking, mountain biking, and forest driving loops. Greenwood Furnace State Park adds a sand beach, a small lake, and interpretive walks through the remains of a 19th-century ironmaking village that operated from 1834 to 1904.
Day trips run in several directions. State College and the Penn State campus lie about 30 minutes north for restaurants, museums, and college sports. Lewistown and Belleville, on either side of Reedsville, offer Amish country drives, farm stands, and weekly auctions, reflecting the valley's large Amish population.
Anglers can fish trout streams throughout the Seven Mountains area, and Greenwood Lake supports fishing year-round. Families staying at Seven Mountains Campground or Waterside Campground and RV Park will find on-site amenities and organized weekend activities during the warm months.

The main camping season at Greenwood Furnace State Park runs from the second Friday in April through mid-November, with 49 tent and trailer sites plus two walk-in sites. Forty-four of those sites include electric hookups, and the campground has a dump station and modern shower house with flush toilets.
Summer is the busiest stretch. The 300-foot sand beach at Greenwood Lake is open from late May to mid-September, and weekends around Penn State home football games fill private parks and fairground camping quickly. Reservations at popular Pennsylvania state parks are known to sell out as soon as sites are released, so booking early matters.
Fall is the standout season for scenery, with ridge foliage typically peaking in mid-October and comfortable daytime temperatures for hiking. Winter camping is limited: most private parks close or reduce services, and Greenwood Furnace's campground shuts down until spring, though the park itself stays open year-round for day use.
How to book campgrounds near Reedsville
Greenwood Furnace State Park reservations go through the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests Reservations system, operated on ReserveAmerica. Sites can be booked up to 11 months in advance, with a noon Eastern Time release, and reservations must be made at least 3 days ahead of arrival. Summer weekends, holiday weeks, and fall-foliage weekends tend to sell out, so booking as soon as the window opens is the safest approach.
Private parks such as Hartman Center Campground, Seven Mountains Campground, and Waterside Campground and RV Park take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Centre County Grange Fairgrounds camping is tied to event schedules, including the Grange Fair, and is reserved through the fair organization rather than a general booking platform.
For holiday weekends and Penn State football weekends, plan on booking months in advance across all options.
What to expect at Reedsville campgrounds
Roads into the campgrounds around Reedsville are paved but often narrow and winding, especially the approach to Greenwood Furnace State Park along PA 305. Larger Class A rigs and long fifth-wheels can navigate the route but should plan for slow mountain grades and limited turnaround space at trailheads. Roads inside the state park campground are paved and one-way.
Cell service is spotty. Coverage inside Greenwood Furnace State Park is very limited, and reception can drop out along ridge roads in Rothrock State Forest. Private parks nearer to Reedsville and US 322 generally have better signal, and Seven Mountains Campground advertises free Wi-Fi.
Expect a mix of shaded forest sites and open fields. Black bears live in the surrounding forest, so food and trash should be stored inside the RV. Alcohol is not permitted in Pennsylvania state parks, including Greenwood Furnace. Firewood is sold on site at the state park to discourage moving pests between regions.
