Camping near Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania
Roaring Spring sits in Morrison's Cove in Blair County, central Pennsylvania, within the Altoona metropolitan area and a short drive from the Allegheny Front. RV renters use the town as a base for Raystown Lake to the southeast, Blue Knob State Park to the southwest, and the trails, streams, and small towns of the surrounding Allegheny Mountains.
Campground options within roughly an hour cover the full range. Wrights Orchard Station Campground and Weimers RV 764 Campground / Scott$ Arcade offer small, roadside-style stays close to town. James Creek RV Resort and Heritage Cove Resort provide full-service RV parks near Raystown Lake with hookups, pools, and family amenities. Blue Knob State Park runs a public campground higher in the mountains for renters who prefer a rustic, forested setting.
Roads in the region are winding and hilly. Renters in larger Class A or fifth-wheel rigs should check pad lengths and low-clearance routes before committing to a mountain park.
Things to do around Roaring Spring
Raystown Lake anchors most itineraries. The reservoir is the largest lake entirely within Pennsylvania, supporting boating, fishing, swimming beaches, and the Allegrippis Trails, a purpose-built single-track network of roughly 36 miles designed by mountain bikers and built with the International Mountain Bicycling Association. James Creek RV Resort and Heritage Cove Resort put renters within minutes of the water.
Blue Knob State Park covers more than 6,000 acres on the second-highest mountain in Pennsylvania, with about 20 miles of hiking trails rated easy to advanced, streams for trout fishing, a summer swimming pool open Memorial Day through Labor Day, and cross-country skiing in winter with downhill skiing at the adjacent Blue Knob All Seasons Resort.
Closer to town, Morrison's Cove offers Amish farm stands, covered bridges, and short drives to Canoe Creek State Park, Altoona's Horseshoe Curve, and the Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site.

December - February
36° / 19°F 65 mmSnowy at elevation; most campgrounds closed.
The main RV season runs from mid-April through mid-October. The Blue Knob State Park campground opens the second Friday in April and closes in mid-October, so shoulder-season trips need to align with that window. Private parks like James Creek RV Resort and Heritage Cove Resort often operate a longer season but scale back amenities outside summer.
Summer is peak. Weekends around Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day book out months ahead at the Raystown-area resorts, and Blue Knob's limited sites go quickly for holiday weekends. June and early September are quieter and still warm enough for lake swimming.
Fall brings strong foliage color across the ridges through mid-October, with cool nights that suit furnace-equipped RVs. Winter shifts the region toward skiing at Blue Knob, where annual snowfall averages roughly 12 feet at elevation. Most campgrounds are closed in winter, though a few private parks near Raystown keep a small number of winterized sites open.

The camper was well stocked, clean, and comfortable. This is the 2nd time we rented from mike and he is very accommodating. Next time ill have to remember not to pack so much. They even thought of is when the nights got cold and brought us another propane tank, just in case, and we didnt even have to ask. Thanks Mike, for another wonderful fall adventure.

Shawn and Melinda made it easy to hold a memorable Penn State tailgate, even for someone like me who is new to RV rental. The Beaver Stadium RV lot didn’t have RV hookups so they made sure we had water and extra gas for the generator. They thought if every detail. The RV was super clean and well-stocked. They had excellent communication and were so friendly and helpful. I would 100% rent from them again.

This was my first time renting an RV and it was the smoothest process! The hosts were in contact with me before delivery so I knew exactly when they would arrive. They were so friendly and set up the entire camper and gave me a tour. We had an awesome experience, thank you!

How to book campgrounds near Roaring Spring
Blue Knob State Park is reserved through the Pennsylvania state park system at the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests Reservations website or by phone at 888-PA-PARKS. Reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance and must be booked at least three days before arrival, with the daily release at noon Eastern Time. Popular summer weekends sell out early, so booking in winter for the following season is standard.
Private parks including James Creek RV Resort, Heritage Cove Resort, Wrights Orchard Station Campground, and Weimers RV 764 Campground / Scott$ Arcade take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Holiday weekends and fishing tournament dates fill first.
When booking an RV rental site, confirm pad length, hookup amps (20/30/50), and whether the site is back-in or pull-through to match the rig.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around Roaring Spring is mountainous. Elevations at Blue Knob State Park exceed 3,000 feet, and air temperatures there run several degrees cooler than in the valley towns. Cell service is spotty in the state park and along the ridges, so download maps and reservation confirmations before arrival.
The Raystown Lake corridor is more developed. James Creek RV Resort operates 207 back-in sites with 20/30/50-amp electric and water hookups, a heated pool, and an on-site restaurant, with a dump station rather than individual sewer connections. Heritage Cove Resort offers similar full-service amenities on the lake side.
Wildlife is common, including deer, black bear, and turkey. Food storage rules apply at state park sites. Pennsylvania DCNR urges campers to source firewood locally to avoid moving non-native pests across county lines.

Pro tip: ask about delivery to a private property in Martinsburg or Hollidaysburg if you want a backyard basecamp without driving a big rig yourself.

weather.gov/ctp/I have never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving in this area?
You will do great, and Roaring Spring is actually a friendly place for first time renting an RV. Roads like US-220, Route 36, and Interstate 99 are wide, well maintained, and far less stressful than big-city driving. Stick to a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer for your first run, take the climb over Tussey Mountain in a lower gear, and you will be a pro by day two. If something more serious comes up, RVezy customer support has your back before, during, and after your trip. Save the roadside number in your phone before pickup and you can relax into the adventure.

Renting a motorhome in Roaring Spring or a travel trailer through RVezy means you get a fully equipped home on wheels. Expect comfortable beds (most rigs sleep 4 to 8), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and basic cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with air conditioning and propane furnace, and seatbelts for safe travel. Many listings include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and camp chairs. Wi-Fi and generators are often add-ons rather than standard, so check the listing details and message the host about extras like bedding and kitchen starter kits before you book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Roaring%20Spring%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhat add-ons and pickup logistics should I know about?
Hosts in Roaring Spring offer some really useful add-ons that can level up your trip. Common options include linen and towel packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits, generators ($25 to $50 per day), bike racks, outdoor grills, and even kayaks or paddleboards (handy for Raystown Lake). Pickup is usually at the host's home in towns like Roaring Spring, Martinsburg, Hollidaysburg, Altoona, or Duncansville, and takes about 45 minutes for the walkthrough. Many hosts also offer delivery to local campgrounds for a flat fee. Mileage policies typically range from 100 free miles per day to unlimited, so review the listing's terms before you book to avoid surprises.
visitpa.com/region/allegheniesHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card when you book, never directly to the host, which keeps your money protected and your trip backed by RVezy support. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the rig) and released after your trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. Do the walkthrough carefully at pickup, photograph any existing scratches or dings, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and dump the tanks if your host requires it.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I take my Roaring Spring RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, most hosts welcome interstate travel, which makes a Roaring Spring RV rental a fantastic launchpad for a multi-state adventure. Popular cross-border runs include Maryland (about an hour south for Antietam and the C&O Canal), West Virginia (90 minutes for Harpers Ferry), New York (4 hours to the Finger Lakes), and Ohio (3.5 hours to Cleveland). Canada trips may be allowed depending on the host and insurance terms, so message the host directly before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Carry your booking documents and ID at border crossings.
