Council Cup Campground runs a similar seasonal window, open from April through November.
Summer is the busiest stretch. Spring can bring high water on the Susquehanna and its tributaries, worth checking before booking creekside sites.
Fall brings cooler nights, foliage color across the Back Mountain ridges, and easier reservation availability after Labor Day. A few private parks stay open in shoulder and winter months as well. Moyers Grove Campground lists availability in spring, summer, fall, and winter for RV travelers who want a colder-season base.

How to book near Shavertown
Frances Slocum State Park uses the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system. Most campsites in Pennsylvania state parks can be reserved 11 months in advance to noon of the day of arrival, either online through the DCNR site or by calling the park office. Campers without a reservation arriving after noon should check the posted instructions near the campground entrance.
Because weekends in summer fill the Frances Slocum campground quickly, booking several months out is advisable for July and August, and for any site with electric hookups. If a preferred date is sold out, cancellation-alert tools scan the state system for openings.
Private campgrounds in the area, including Highland Campgrounds, Council Cup Campground, Moyers Grove Campground, and Slumber Valley Campground, take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites, with seasonal and monthly stays also available.
What to expect at Shavertown campgrounds
Sites near Shavertown lean rustic and wooded rather than resort-style. Frances Slocum's campground offers 100 campsites, including 85 tent or trailer sites, some with electric hookups and ADA accessibility, plus 15 walk-in tent sites for additional privacy, and each site features a picnic table and fire ring. Pets are permitted on designated sites.
RV size limits vary by property. Frances Slocum accommodates RVs up to 35 feet, Moyers Grove accommodates trailers up to 40 feet, and Council Cup offers water, electric, and sewer sites with 30 and 50 amp hookups. Cell coverage is uneven in the hollows, with Verizon generally the most reliable carrier. Expect quiet-hours enforcement at state park sites and cooler nights than the Wilkes-Barre valley due to elevation on the Back Mountain.
