Campgrounds and RV parks near Trexlertown, PA

The Trexler Nature Preserve is the marquee outdoor destination in the area. The 1,108-acre park, formerly known as the Trexler-Lehigh County Game Preserve, protects endangered bison and elk and serves as the access path to the Lehigh Valley Zoo. The preserve offers more than 18 miles of trails for hiking, walking, jogging, mountain biking, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing. The land was assembled by industrialist Harry Clay Trexler in the early 20th century and opened to the general public in the mid-2000s. Cycling is a signature draw. The Valley Preferred Cycling Center (the Velodrome) hosts summer racing, and the Bob Rodale Fitness Park sits next door. Road and gravel riders use the surrounding farm roads and the Ironton Rail Trail for flat, family-friendly outings. For rainy-day and family activities, Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom, Da Vinci Science Center, and the Crayola Experience in nearby Easton are all within a half hour. Wehr Covered Bridge, a three-span, 117-foot Burr Truss bridge constructed in 1841 in South Whitehall Township, crosses Jordan Creek and is a common stop on local cycling loops.

Peak RV season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when private campgrounds operate at full amenity levels and pools are open. July and August bring the warmest days, frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and higher humidity. Summers in the Allentown area are warm, humid, and wet, and winters are very cold and snowy. Shoulder seasons are strong here. May through mid-June delivers wildflowers and lower bug pressure, and September through mid-October is prime for fall foliage across the Lehigh Valley and Poconos. October is generally peak foliage across Pennsylvania's mountain regions, and weekends fill quickly at campgrounds in the Poconos and Laurel Highlands. Winter is cold and often snowy. Allentown averages about 29 inches of snow per year, and the area sees slightly more than 100 days below freezing on average. Many private campgrounds close or reduce services from late fall into early spring, so travelers planning cold-weather trips should confirm dates directly with the park.

Expect a suburban-rural mix. Most parks near Trexlertown sit on rolling farmland or wooded parcels off two-lane county roads, with grocery, fuel, and RV supply within a short drive in Allentown, Kutztown, or Fogelsville. Cell coverage on the major carriers is generally strong throughout the area. Site types vary by park. Private campgrounds commonly offer 30 and 50 amp full-hookup sites, seasonal sites, and a smaller inventory of tent and cabin options. Amenities such as swimming pools, dog runs, laundry, propane fills, and organized weekend activities are typical at the larger parks, while smaller campgrounds tend to be quieter and more basic. Roads into some campgrounds are narrow with tight turns and low tree canopy, so large Class A and fifth-wheel drivers should call ahead about site access, length limits, and preferred approach routes.
