Campgrounds near West Fairview
West Fairview sits on the west bank of the Susquehanna River in Cumberland County, directly across from Harrisburg. The location puts RV travelers within a short drive of both private campgrounds and Pennsylvania state park facilities, with Interstates 81 and 83 providing quick access in every direction.
Harrisburg East Campground is convenient to I-76 (PA Turnpike), I-81, I-83 and US 322, sitting centrally between Hershey, Lancaster and Gettysburg. It offers full RV hookups and operates year-round. South of the river, Gifford Pinchot State Park is a 2,338-acre full-service park in northern York County along PA 177 between Rossville and Lewisberry, with 340-acre Pinchot Lake as its prime attraction.
Other options in the area include Camp Hebron, a Christian camp and conference center located in Halifax along the Appalachian Trail just north of Harrisburg on 340 acres of wooded land; King's Campground in Dillsburg, a smaller family-run RV park; and Hersheypark Camping Resort, the on-property campground for Hersheypark.
Things to do near West Fairview
Water and trails dominate the outdoor calendar. Gifford Pinchot State Park offers boating, fishing, disc golfing, hiking, picnicking, and swimming, with Pinchot Lake restricted to electric motors and served by launch areas along the shoreline. The park network also connects to a segment of the long-distance Mason Dixon Trail.
Families staying near West Fairview often build itineraries around Hershey and Gettysburg. Harrisburg East Campground sits centrally between Hershey, Lancaster and Gettysburg, less than 10 miles from downtown Harrisburg, and Hersheypark Camping Resort provides shuttle service to a drop-off point near the front gate of Hersheypark on park operating days.
Back in camp, Camp Hebron adds a lighted sand volleyball court, basketball half court, playing field, playground equipment and seasonal access to a swimming pool, useful for families with kids to burn off energy between excursions.

From late autumn through winter, hunting is permitted in designated areas at Gifford Pinchot and hikers are advised to wear fluorescent colors.
Winter narrows the options but does not eliminate them. Harrisburg East Campground and Hersheypark Camping Resort both operate year-round, while state park campsites shut down for the season. How to book campgrounds near West Fairview
Pennsylvania state park sites are booked through the state's reservation system on ReserveAmerica. Reservations must be made at least 3 days ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance. Peak summer weekends at Gifford Pinchot typically sell out months out, so booking early after the 11-month window opens is the safest approach.
Private campgrounds handle reservations directly. Harrisburg East Campground, King's Campground, Camp Hebron, and Hersheypark Camping Resort each take bookings through their own websites or by phone. Camp Hebron requires a minimum of 2 nights and a maximum of 10 consecutive nights, and the campground is pet and alcohol free.
For Hersheypark trips, aligning stay dates with park operating days matters, since guest perks at Hersheypark Camping Resort tie to the park's operating schedule.
What to expect at West Fairview campgrounds
Sites vary widely across the area. At Gifford Pinchot, all sites have macadam pads and can accommodate everything from large motorhomes to small tents, and many sites include electric hookups. Full hookup sites are limited to a small number of sites, so RV renters needing sewer should confirm site type at booking.
Private parks lean toward full-service. Harrisburg East offers full hookups but sits near the interstate, and reviewers note traffic being audible day and night at sites nearest the highway. King's Campground is smaller, with 54 campsites offering water and electric on 30/50 amp service, a dump station, and a heated bathhouse with hot showers.
Expect pet rules to differ by property. State parks allow pets on designated sites only, most private parks welcome pets with restrictions, and Camp Hebron is pet-free. Pennsylvania restricts moving firewood into the state, so buy locally at the campground.
