Camping options in the area range from full-service private parks to a large state park campground. For a public-lands experience, Gifford Pinchot State Park in northern York County holds one of Pennsylvania's largest state park campgrounds, with 289 sites at the southern end of Pinchot Lake. King's Campground in Dillsburg gives travelers a quieter, family-run base off US-15 with access to Gettysburg, Harrisburg, and Hershey.

The Gifford Pinchot campground opens in mid-April and closes in late October, while Camp Hebron's campground is open from mid-April to mid-October. Peak demand hits between Memorial Day and Labor Day, when family travelers, Hersheypark visitors, and lakeside campers all compete for the same sites. Campers may stay in a Pennsylvania state park campground up to 14 consecutive nights from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Spring brings unsettled weather, greening hills, and quieter campgrounds. Early April can still see frost overnight, and sites at Pinchot fill quickly on summer weekends, particularly those with lake views. Fall delivers cooler nights, foliage color, and lighter crowds through October.

How to book campgrounds near Wormleysburg
Reservations at Gifford Pinchot State Park must be made 3 days ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance through the Pennsylvania State Parks system on ReserveAmerica. A nonrefundable transaction fee applies to each booking, and out-of-state rates differ from Pennsylvania resident rates.
Private campgrounds book directly. Harrisburg East Campground, Hersheypark Camping Resort, King's Campground, and Camp Hebron each accept reservations by phone or through their own websites. What to expect at Wormleysburg campgrounds
Site quality varies widely. Harrisburg East offers level pull-through pads suited to big rigs and late arrivals, with a summer pool, laundry, and a bathhouse. Gifford Pinchot sites have macadam pads that can accommodate anything from a large motor home to the smallest tent, many with electric hookups and a limited number with full service; pets are permitted on designated campsites.
Camp Hebron sites sit close together with minimal separation between them, and the campground regularly hosts large groups of children arriving by bus during peak times, so expect activity during the day. The property has a heated bathhouse, a covered pavilion, and a dump station for RVs.
Harrisburg East welcomes pets but prohibits them from all buildings including bathrooms, laundry, and the pool area. Cell coverage is generally reliable across the Harrisburg corridor, and grocery, fuel, and RV supplies are close at hand.

Good news: for the vast majority of RVs you'll find on RVezy in Wormleysburg, your regular Pennsylvania Class C driver's license (the standard one almost everyone has) is all you need. PennDOT only requires a non-commercial Class B license for single vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating over 26,000 pounds, which applies only to a small slice of the largest Class A motorhomes. Travel trailers, fifth wheels, Class B campervans, and Class C motorhomes are all fair game with a standard license. You'll need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and ID confirmation happens right inside the platform during checkout, so you can be approved and packing within minutes.

Booking is low-risk: RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy, and it includes a full money-back grace period right after you book, so if plans change quickly you are covered. Beyond the grace window, refunds depend on how far in advance you cancel and whether unusual circumstances like severe weather are involved. Central Pennsylvania can occasionally see Susquehanna River flooding in spring or a winter storm, and RVezy considers those situations when reviewing cancellations. You can review the current cancellation policy on the RVezy Help Center before you book, locking in your Wormleysburg dates today does not lock you out of flexibility tomorrow.

Every RVezy host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, water, propane, and dump procedures, and you can message or call them during your trip with questions. Most first-time renters in the area pick a Class C motorhome or a small travel trailer because they handle similarly to a large van. From Wormleysburg, you can avoid downtown Harrisburg by taking US-11/15 north or I-83 south straight to peaceful campgrounds. Pro tip: do a slow practice loop in a large, empty parking lot before heading out, flat and low-pressure is exactly what you want.

Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's roadside assistance card at pickup and save the host's number to your favorites, so help is two taps away anywhere in PA.
