Campgrounds near Coyote Acres
Coyote Acres is a small census-designated place in Jim Wells County in South Texas, located about six miles southwest of Alice, the county seat, and roughly 70 miles west of Corpus Christi. The community sits in the brushland of the Coastal Bend, well inland from the Gulf but within easy driving range of Lake Corpus Christi and the coastal beaches around Corpus Christi Bay.
RV travelers using Coyote Acres as a base have a mix of options within an hour's drive. Inland freshwater camping is anchored by Lake Corpus Christi State Park, where Opossum Bend - Lake Corpus Christi State Park offers water and electric hookup sites near a boat ramp and fishing pier. Closer to town, private parks such as CM Nature's Own RV Resort, Wilderness Lakes RV Resort, and Gulf Coast Quality Rentals provide full-hookup RV sites suited to longer stays.
For those who want the coast, Corpus Christi Sunrise Beach and other bayfront options put travelers within reach of the Texas State Aquarium, USS Lexington, and Padre Island National Seashore.
Things to do near Coyote Acres
Lake Corpus Christi is the closest large recreation area. The lake covers roughly 18,000 acres and is known for bass, crappie, and catfish, with two lighted fishing piers and boat ramps inside the state park. Swimming, paddling, and boating are all permitted, though no lifeguards are on duty.
Inside the state park, trails weave along the shore and past a limestone refectory built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. Birdwatchers should bring binoculars: the park sits on a migratory flyway, and deer and javelina are common near the campgrounds.
Day trips east lead to Corpus Christi's beaches, the Texas State Aquarium, the USS Lexington, and the open sand and dunes of Padre Island National Seashore, roughly an hour and a half from Coyote Acres.

South Texas has a long warm season. Summers in the Alice area are hot and humid, with afternoon highs regularly in the mid-90s and dew points that make shade and 50-amp service for air conditioning essentially mandatory. Lake Corpus Christi State Park is a popular local cooling-off spot when temperatures peak, so summer weekends fill quickly.
Atlantic hurricane season runs from June through November, with the highest risk on the Texas coast typically in August and September. RV travelers along the coast should watch forecasts closely and have an exit plan, especially at exposed beach sites. Inland parks near Coyote Acres are less exposed to storm surge but can still see heavy rain and wind.
Winter is the region's shoulder-to-peak season for RVers. Mild days, cool nights, and strong bird migrations draw winter Texans, and reservations at full-hookup parks tighten from January through March.
How to book near Coyote Acres
Reservations at Lake Corpus Christi State Park are handled through the Texas State Parks reservation system, with most campsite categories bookable up to five months in advance. Sites in the Opossum Bend loop include water and electric hookups and can accommodate rigs up to about 91 feet, while the Javelina loop offers full hookups and takes rigs up to about 110 feet.
Private parks in the Coyote Acres and Alice area, including CM Nature's Own RV Resort, Wilderness Lakes RV Resort, and Gulf Coast Quality Rentals, typically take reservations directly by phone or through their websites. Coastal parks such as Corpus Christi Sunrise Beach book up fastest for winter and spring break, so plan several weeks ahead for those windows.
What to expect near Coyote Acres
The landscape around Coyote Acres is South Texas brush country: mesquite, live oak, and open ranchland, with lakes and rivers rather than mountains. RV sites at Lake Corpus Christi State Park include a mix of shady and sunny pads with picnic tables, fire rings, and access to restrooms and showers. Quiet hours at the state park run from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., with generators and music off during that window.
Expect warm-weather wildlife: deer, javelina, coyotes, and a wide range of birds. Salt air is not a concern this far inland, but summer humidity and biting insects are, so bring repellent and shade. At coastal parks, rinsing the rig after beach stays helps limit salt corrosion.
