Campgrounds and RV parks near Lake Holiday, VA

Lake Holiday sits in Frederick County, Virginia, northwest of Winchester in the northern Shenandoah Valley. It is a 249-acre artificial lake surrounded by a residential community that forms the Lake Holiday census-designated place, an unincorporated area governed by a property owners association, with a Cross Junction postal address roughly one mile northeast along U.S. Route 522. The lake itself is private to residents and their guests, so most RV travelers base out of nearby campgrounds and use the area as a quiet Shenandoah Valley staging point. RV options within about a half-hour drive range from small creekside sites to larger amenity parks. Thor's Hollow Retreat, Cove Campgrounds, Candy Hill Campground, Lazy A Campground, and Bluffs at Cedar Creek Campground give renters a mix of rural, wooded, and family-oriented settings on both the Virginia and West Virginia sides of the ridge. The location works well for trips that combine hiking, fishing, and Civil War history. Shenandoah National Park, George Washington National Forest, and Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park are all within an easy drive, and downtown Winchester adds groceries, services, and restaurants without the congestion of the D.C. metro.

Most private campgrounds around Lake Holiday, including Thor's Hollow Retreat, Cove Campgrounds, Candy Hill Campground, Lazy A Campground, and Bluffs at Cedar Creek Campground, take reservations directly through their own websites or through third-party platforms such as Campspot, Hipcamp, and Good Sam. At Bluffs at Cedar Creek, check-in is at 2 PM and check-out is at 11 AM, and while each park tries to honor spot requests, the on-site manager makes the final placement decision. Trout fishing on Cedar Creek is by reservation only, fills up quickly, and must be booked separately through Double Spur Outfitters, so a campsite reservation does not include creek access. For nearby state and federal sites, Virginia State Parks use reservevaparks.com with an 11-month booking window, and national forest sites use Recreation.gov. Reserve summer holiday weekends as far in advance as the booking window allows.
