Campgrounds and RV parks near Bath, WV

The mineral baths in the center of town are the main draw. The park's Old Roman and Main bathhouses offer a wide selection of spa services, including massages, saunas, baths and showers, and the outdoor pool is filled with natural spring water and is open every day except Tuesday, from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Just south of town, Cacapon Resort State Park offers lake swimming and beach access, hiking, cabins, and a championship golf course. Across the state line, Fort Frederick State Park pairs a restored French and Indian War fort with river access on the Potomac. RV renters looking for a long, flat ride can pick up the Western Maryland Rail Trail, a flat, paved trail with its eastern terminus located a half mile west of Fort Frederick State Park, which connects to the C&O Canal towpath for extended out-and-back trips.

The Eastern Panhandle has four distinct seasons. In Berkeley Springs, the summers are warm and humid, the winters are very cold and snowy, and it is partly cloudy year round. Late spring and early fall are typically the most comfortable windows for RV travel, with moderate temperatures and lower humidity than midsummer. Summer is the busiest booking season. Families target the June-through-August window because the outdoor mineral pool at Berkeley Springs State Park runs Memorial Day through Labor Day, and Cacapon's lake beach and cabin programs peak at the same time. Reserve well in advance for July and August weekends, especially around holiday periods. Spring brings heavier rain and higher river flows on the Potomac and Cacapon, which affects paddling conditions. Fall delivers foliage on Cacapon Mountain and cooler nights suited to campfires. Winter camping is possible for self-contained rigs, but many tent loops and seasonal facilities close. At Fort Frederick, tent camping is available from the first Saturday in May until the first Sunday in November, while self-contained camping units, including RVs, may camp year-round.

Facilities vary widely between private RV parks and state park campgrounds. The private campgrounds around Bath tend to offer full or partial hookups, dump stations, and pull-through sites suited to larger rigs, along with restrooms and showers. Confirm hookup amperage and sewer availability when booking, since older parks sometimes have limited 50-amp sites. Fort Frederick runs on a more rustic model. The 29 campsites are equipped with stone dust camping pads, picnic tables, fire rings, and lantern posts, with portable toilets in the campground from the first Saturday in May to the first Sunday in November, a comfort station with flush toilets near the fort's parking lot, and no potable water within the campground, though potable water and a dumpster are located about 0.6 miles away. The maximum size of an RV allowed is up to 50 feet long. Cell coverage is generally reliable near town and spottier on Cacapon Mountain.
