Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Sicamous, BC
How much does an RV rental in Sicamous typically cost?
An RV rental in Sicamous is often more affordable than travellers expect for the Houseboat Capital of Canada. Travel trailers typically start around $125 to $190 per night, Class C motorhomes range from roughly $200 to $325, and larger Class A units sit around $275 to $450. Peak rates land in July and August when Shuswap Lake is buzzing, so booking a shoulder-season trip in late May, June, or September can trim 20 to 30 percent off your nightly rate. Filter by price on RVezy and message a couple of hosts about weekly discounts to unlock a cheap RV rental in Sicamous, leaving more budget for boat rentals and ice cream at D Dutchman Dairy.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sicamous%2C%20British%20ColumbiaWhat licence do I need to rent an RV in Sicamous?
Your regular Class 5 driver's licence is all you need to rent an RV in Sicamous, including most motorhomes and any trailer you can legally tow with your vehicle. No special RV licence, air brake endorsement, or commercial licence is required in British Columbia for the recreational units on RVezy. Renters generally need to be 25 or older to book, and ID verification happens inside the platform during checkout, so there are no surprise paperwork runs at pickup. Visiting from outside Canada? An International Driving Permit paired with your home licence keeps things smooth. Most first-time renters are surprised how quick approval is, often the same day you book.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my RV rental protected if something goes wrong on the trip?
Yes. Every RVezy booking includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you're covered from the moment you drive away from your Sicamous pickup. The protection plan shields you from most accidental damage to the vehicle, giving you real financial peace of mind for things like a chipped windshield on the Trans-Canada Highway or a minor scrape backing into a forest site. You choose the level of coverage during checkout, not the host, so you can pick the comfort level that fits your trip. That means more time enjoying Mara Lake sunsets and less time worrying about what-ifs.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Sicamous RV rental?
You're not locked in. RVezy has a built-in cancellation policy that applies to every booking, including a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your Sicamous dates with confidence. Cancellation terms are set by RVezy (not by individual hosts) and factor in how far out you are from your trip start. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or provides credits so you can rebook. Reach out to RVezy support any time you need help walking through your options, and book your Shuswap dates knowing flexibility is built in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Sicamous?
Absolutely. Filter for Pet-Friendly on RVezy to instantly see every pet-friendly RV rental in Sicamous, then message the host with your dog's size and breed. Sicamous is a tail-wagging paradise: the off-leash area at Beach Park, the easy Sicamous Creek Falls trail, and the swimmable shoreline at Mara Provincial Park are all dog-friendly. Most local campgrounds, including Sicamous KOA Holiday and Shuswap Lake Provincial Park, welcome leashed pets too. Pack a towel for muddy paws after lake swims and you'll have one very happy co-pilot all week.
bcparks.ca/mara-park/Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Sicamous?
Yes, and it's often the easiest way to start your trip. Many Sicamous hosts offer RV delivery, towing the unit to your campground, levelling it, hooking up power, water, and sewer, then walking you through every system before handing you the keys. It's ideal for first-timers, families flying into Kelowna International Airport (about 1 hour 45 minutes away), or anyone who'd rather skip the towing learning curve. Popular delivery spots include Shuswap Lake Provincial Park, Sicamous KOA Holiday, and Cedars Campground on the Eagle River. Filter by Delivery on RVezy, enter your campground address, and the platform will show hosts who serve that location with upfront pricing.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sicamous%2C%20British%20ColumbiaHow far can I drive, and what about mileage limits?
You've got plenty of road to roam from Sicamous. Hosts set their own mileage policies, and many include 100 to 200 free kilometres per night, with some offering RV rental with unlimited mileage for road trippers. From Sicamous you can easily reach Revelstoke (about 70 km east), Kelowna (about 160 km south), Banff (about 285 km east), Jasper (about 410 km north via Highway 5), or Vancouver (about 475 km west). When you message a host, share your rough route and they'll often bundle in extra kilometres at a flat rate, which usually beats per-kilometre overages. Ask for a quote on a kilometre add-on package up front so you know your full Shuswap RV trip budget before you book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sicamous%2C%20British%20ColumbiaWhere are the best campgrounds near Sicamous for an RV?
You're spoiled for choice. Top picks for RV camping near Sicamous include Sicamous KOA Holiday in Malakwa (full-service sites among mature trees with a pool and playground), Shuswap Lake Provincial Park in Scotch Creek (272 sites with hookups and Copper Island day trips), Mara Provincial Park (lakeside day-use and overnight sites on Mara Lake), Cedars Campground and RV Resort on the Eagle River (forested pull-thrus and an indoor pool), and Sicamous Sands Resort right on the beach in town. Book BC Parks sites through the Discover Camping reservation system the moment your dates open four months out, and private resorts directly through their websites.
bcparks.ca/shuswap-lk-park/When is the best time to visit Sicamous in an RV?
The sweet spot for a Sicamous RV trip is mid-June through early September, when daytime highs typically sit between 24 and 28°C, Shuswap and Mara Lakes warm up for swimming and wakeboarding, and the houseboat scene is in full swing. July and August are the warmest and driest months, but they're also the busiest, so book your RV and campsite early. June and September offer mild days, fewer crowds, and lower nightly rates. Winter transforms Sicamous into a snowmobiling mecca, so cold-weather rentals are available for sledders heading to Queest and Owlhead.
climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_normals/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay in Sicamous?
You've got this, and you won't be alone. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving, kitchen, bathroom, awning, slide-outs, propane, and dumping, so you leave knowing exactly how everything works. First time renting an RV in Sicamous is actually one of the friendlier places to start: the Trans-Canada Highway runs straight through town, speeds are reasonable, and most campgrounds have generous pull-thru sites. If you'd rather skip the driving entirely, choose a host who offers delivery and setup. Save the host's number, drive a short loop before hitting the highway, and within an hour you'll feel like a pro cruising toward the lake.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I have a breakdown or issue on the road?
Help is one call away. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so if you get a flat on Highway 97A, a dead battery at Shuswap Lake Provincial Park, or run out of fuel between Sicamous and Revelstoke, a dispatcher will arrange service to your location. Your host is also reachable by phone and message for quick questions like resetting the generator or troubleshooting the water pump. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Save the roadside number in your phone at pickup and screenshot your booking details for peace of mind on every kilometre of the Shuswap.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat's a great RV road trip from Sicamous?
Sicamous is a launchpad for some of Canada's best drives. A classic RV road trip from Sicamous heads east along the Trans-Canada through Revelstoke (about 70 km, with Mount Revelstoke National Park and nearby hot springs), then on to Glacier and Yoho National Parks before reaching Banff (about 285 km, around 3.5 hours). Or head south on Highway 97A to Okanagan wine country (Vernon in about 70 km, Kelowna in about 160 km). Adventurous travellers can continue to Jasper via Highway 5 (about 5 hours). Cross-border trips to the US are allowed on many rentals with prior host approval; travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy. Map your route and message hosts before booking to confirm any out-of-province plans.
parks.canada.ca/pn-np/bc/revelstokeHow much should I budget for fuel on a Sicamous RV trip?
Fuel is a real but manageable line item on a Shuswap trip. Expect roughly 10 to 14 L/100 km for a Class B campervan, 18 to 25 L/100 km for a Class C motorhome, and 25 to 35 L/100 km for a large Class A or a truck towing a fifth wheel. BC fuel prices typically run higher than the national average, often in the $1.65 to $1.95 per litre range in Sicamous in summer. A 500 km loop through Revelstoke and back in a Class C will run roughly $190 to $270. Fill up in Salmon Arm before heading into the mountains, where prices climb noticeably.
www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/industry/natural-gas-oil/petroleum-products/transportation-fuels-pricesHow far in advance should I book a campground near Sicamous?
Earlier is always better in the Shuswap, especially for summer. BC Parks campgrounds like Shuswap Lake Provincial Park and Mara Provincial Park open reservations roughly four months ahead through the Discover Camping system at camping.bcparks.ca, and prime July and August weekends sell out within minutes. Private parks like Sicamous KOA Holiday, Cedars Campground, and Sicamous Sands Resort take bookings up to a year out, with many regulars rebooking the same week annually. Aim to lock in your RV on RVezy and your campsite the same week. Midweek arrivals (Sunday to Thursday) almost always have last-minute availability, even in peak summer.
camping.bcparks.ca/What are the driving conditions like around Sicamous?
Driving around Sicamous is straightforward, with a few mountain-specific things to know. The Trans-Canada Highway 1 runs right through town and is well-maintained year-round, but the stretch east toward Rogers Pass climbs through the Selkirk Mountains with steep grades and avalanche zones in winter. From October 1 to April 30, winter tires or chains are legally required on most BC mountain highways. Summer driving is easy, though watch for wildlife (deer and moose), slow-moving RVs and houseboat trailers, and occasional construction near the R.W. Bruhn Bridge over the Sicamous Narrows. Check DriveBC before any mountain leg and plan fuel stops in Salmon Arm or Revelstoke for a confident Shuswap drive.
drivebc.ca/What amenities can I expect at Sicamous campgrounds?
Most Sicamous campgrounds are well-equipped for a comfortable trip. At full-service parks like Sicamous KOA Holiday and Cedars Campground, expect 30/50-amp power, fresh water, sewer hookups at many sites, Wi-Fi, hot showers, laundry, and on-site dump stations. BC Parks sites like Shuswap Lake Provincial Park offer electrical hookups at many sites, flush toilets, hot showers, potable water taps, and a sani-station for dumping (no sewer at individual sites). If you need to dump or refill water mid-trip, several private campgrounds in town offer pay-per-use sani-dumps. Pack a 30-to-50-amp adapter and you'll be plug-and-play at every stop.
bcparks.ca/shuswap-lk-park/What's included inside the RV itself?
Sicamous rentals come ready for adventure. Expect a full kitchen with fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, sink, pots, pans, dishes, and cutlery; a bathroom with toilet, sink, and shower; comfortable sleeping for 2 to 10 depending on the unit; furnace and air conditioning; and seatbelts for all travelling passengers. Most listings also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, camp chairs, and a propane BBQ. Many Sicamous hosts offer lake-friendly extras like coolers, life jackets, paddleboards, and tow ropes for an additional fee. Check each listing's amenities tab and message the host with any must-haves before you book so your motorhome rental in Sicamous arrives perfectly equipped for Shuswap lake life.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sicamous%2C%20British%20ColumbiaWhat add-ons are available and how do pickup and drop-off work?
Hosts in Sicamous offer plenty of helpful add-ons to customize your trip: delivery and setup, generator usage packages, propane top-ups, bedding and linen kits, kitchen kits, bike racks, fishing gear, paddleboards, and pet cleaning fees if you're travelling with a furry friend. Pickup typically happens at the host's home in or around Sicamous between mid-morning and early afternoon, with drop-off the morning of your departure day to allow time for inspection. Each host lists their mileage policy, generator hours, and any seasonal restrictions on the listing. Message your host a day before pickup to confirm timing and request anything you forgot for a smooth, quick handover.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sicamous%2C%20British%20ColumbiaHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure through the RVezy platform. You'll pay the rental total (plus taxes, any chosen add-ons, and your selected protection plan) by credit card when you book. A refundable security deposit is held separately from the booking payment and pre-authorized on your card before pickup. Deposit amounts vary by RV and selected protection level. As long as the RV is returned on time, undamaged, clean, and with the fuel and propane levels noted at pickup, the hold is released after the trip. Take time-stamped photos and a short video at pickup and drop-off and you'll sail through the return process with zero stress.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Sicamous during winter for snowmobiling?
Yes, and Sicamous is one of the best winter RV destinations in BC. Known as the snowmobiling capital of Canada, Sicamous draws sledders from across North America to the Eagle Pass, Owlhead, and Queest riding areas from December through March. Several local hosts list winter-ready units with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, extra insulation, and shore power for staying plugged in at year-round parks like Cedars Campground and Sicamous Sands Resort. Filter listings for winter availability and message the host to confirm cold-weather features. Insider tip: book a site with 50-amp shore power so you can run the furnace nonstop without burning through propane during cold snaps.
