2019 Coachmen Travel Trailer
Oscar made this whole experience so easy. We booked the trailer as holiday accomodations for my husband, me, and our dog in the driveway of my parent's (tiny!) house. Oscar set the trailer up before our arrival and picked it up after we left. The trailer itself is terrific, with a cozy double bed and two bunks. My nieces loved to hang out in the trailer and watch DVDs while Grandpa watched his football in the house, and it was great to be able to shower in the trailer instead of waiting for 8 others to finish showering in the main house! It was stormy and windy during our trip, but we were very cozy in the trailer. We'll definitely book again in the future, and my nieces want to "sleep over" in the trailer too next time!

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Malibu, CA

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Malibu, and how can I save on my RV rental?

RV rental in Malibu starts around $120 to $200 a night for travel trailers and $200 to $350 for motorhomes, with luxury models reaching higher. Off-season (November to March) is your secret weapon for a cheap RV rental; rates drop and beaches are quiet. Score even more value by watching for last-minute deals, and don't forget free activities like hiking at Solstice Canyon or enjoying a sunset at El Matador Beach.

All you need to rent an RV in Malibu is a regular, valid driver's license and be at least 25 years old; no special endorsements or commercial license required for RVs under 40 feet. Simply upload your license during booking to verify your ID. International travelers should bring their home license and an International Driving Permit if it's not in English. Can I get an RV delivered and set up at my Malibu campsite or home?

RV delivery in Malibu is a popular perk: just pick a listing with the delivery option, and your host will bring the RV straight to local campgrounds, beaches, or even your driveway within a set delivery radius. How far can I travel with my Malibu RV rental, and what's included for mileage?

Most RV rentals in Malibu include a set number of miles per night, commonly 100 to 150 miles, with the option to purchase more if you want to adventure further. Want an RV rental with unlimited mileage? Filter by "unlimited miles" or ask your host. Favorite trips include Malibu to Santa Barbara (60 miles), Joshua Tree (160 miles), or exploring LA's beaches, all comfortably within your daily allowance for a scenic RV road trip from Malibu.

Where can I park an RV overnight in Malibu, and what are the best local campgrounds?

You can reserve a spot at top campgrounds like Malibu Beach RV Park (ocean views and full hookups), Leo Carrillo State Park (beach access, family-friendly sites), or Malibu Creek State Park (mountain scenery, hiking). Overnight street parking is not allowed in Malibu, so always go with an official campground or RV park. Reservations fill quickly; summer weekends at the beach can sell out months in advance. Book early and secure your piece of paradise.

When's the best time of year for an RV trip to Malibu?

Malibu's Mediterranean climate means you get mild winters (lows 50s°F) and warm, dry summers (highs mid-80s°F). The sweet spot for RV camping in Malibu is March to June or September to November; weather is perfect and crowds are thinner. Summer draws the most visitors, but book early if you want to camp oceanside. For a peaceful, budget-friendly getaway with beautiful hikes and golden sunsets, visit in late spring or early fall.

I'm new to RVs. Is Malibu a good place for first-time renters?

Absolutely. Malibu is a favorite destination for first time renting an RV. Hosts provide a complete orientation at pickup (or delivery), showing you how to use every feature. Choose RV delivery if you're nervous about winding canyon roads. Malibu's campgrounds are spacious, mostly paved, and close to amenities, so you never feel stranded. Start small with a campervan rental to build your confidence, or go big with a family RV trip along Pacific Coast Highway.

What roadside help is available with my Malibu RV rental if something goes wrong?

Drive with peace of mind: every RV rental in Malibu comes with 24/7 roadside assistance. If you get a flat tire along Pacific Coast Highway or need a jumpstart in the Malibu Canyons, just call the support number provided in your booking docs. Help is always on call, so your trip won't stall. The support team is familiar with local roads and can often guide you to the nearest service or safe spot.

Can I take my Malibu RV rental on a road trip to other states?

You can hit the open road: RV rentals from Malibu can generally travel freely throughout California and neighboring states like Nevada and Arizona. Let your host know your route during booking. Trips to Canada may be allowed with advance notice, but Mexico is not permitted. Popular RV road trip routes from Malibu include Sequoia National Park (230 miles), Big Sur (260 miles), and Las Vegas (300 miles).

What should I budget for fuel on an RV camping trip in Malibu?

Fuel costs on a Malibu RV trip are easy to estimate: motorhome rentals usually get 8 to 12 MPG, while campervans average 15 to 20 MPG. Gas in the Malibu area runs around $4.50 to $5.00 per gallon. For a weekend getaway (about 100 miles round-trip), plan about $50 to $70 for a motorhome, or half that for a campervan. Bonus: short hops along the coast mean less time at the pump and more time enjoying the view.

How far ahead should I book a campground near Malibu, and where do I reserve?

For peak weekends and holidays in Malibu, book your campground three to six months ahead, especially at Malibu Beach RV Park or Leo Carrillo State Park. Use ReserveCalifornia for state parks or the park's own website for private campgrounds. Spring and fall dates can often be found just a few weeks out. Pro tip: Try weeknights for less competition and stunning, crowd-free sunsets.

What are Malibu roads like for RV driving? Anything to watch out for?

Malibu's Pacific Coast Highway offers some of California's most scenic drives, but watch for winding canyon roads and occasional morning fog. Height restrictions on some bridges are clearly marked, and traffic can be heavy around rush hours or summer weekends. Delivery is a great solution if you'd rather skip Malibu's tight city streets: let your host handle parking and setup while you go straight to the beach.
dot.ca.gov/programs/traffic-operations

What hookups and facilities should I expect at campgrounds near Malibu?

Malibu RV campgrounds offer a range of amenities: Malibu Beach RV Park features full hookups (water, sewer, electric), WiFi, and hot showers. Leo Carrillo State Park offers water, dump stations, and electric hookups at select sites. Malibu Creek State Park provides water spigots and dump, but no direct hookups; great for campers who like it simple. Pack quarters for showers at state parks and empty tanks at designated dump sites before hitting the road.

What features and comforts do most Malibu RV rentals come with?

Even entry-level RVs for rent in Malibu include a comfy bed, working kitchen, bathroom, and interior shower. Most motorhome rentals also offer AC (essential in summer), TVs, and built-in generators for off-grid adventures. You'll find family models with bunk beds and slide-outs, or opt for a cozy campervan with wifi and USB charging. All RVs have seatbelts for safe travel down the coast.

What add-ons or options can I get with my RV rental in Malibu?

Add-ons make your Malibu RV rental extra fun: hosts often offer surfboard racks, outdoor kitchens, paddleboards, or even beach gear for a small fee (listed clearly during booking). Some offer early pickup or late drop-off for maximum flexibility. Need unlimited miles for a big road trip? Just filter listings or ask the host directly to set it up. Customize your experience for a classic SoCal adventure.

How does payment work for my Malibu RV rental, and what should I know about the security deposit?

Booking your Malibu RV rental is secure and straightforward. You pay through RVezy's platform, and a fully refundable security deposit is authorized before your trip (typically 3 days before start). The deposit covers minor damages and is released shortly after your trip if the RV is returned in good shape (clean and undamaged). To avoid charges, follow the host's return checklist, dump waste tanks, and refill fuel if required. It's all about a smooth return and great reviews for your next Malibu road trip.
