Such an easy and seamless experience. We camped for 5 nights in Jalama, and I honestly wouldn't have lasted without the comfort of the cute little airstream. I would highly recommend it!

2023 Forest River Travel Trailer
We had a great experience renting Nick’s trailer. It was clean, in working condition, was comfortable, and had everything we needed for a fun weeklong camping trip at the beach. When we picked it up, he walked us through the ins and outs of how the trailer worked. The rental process was easy, and he was helpful and very responsive. We will definitely be renting the trailer again next time.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Santa Ynez, CA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Santa Ynez, CA?
RV rental in Santa Ynez is more affordable than you might think for California wine country. Travel trailers average around $120 per night, while motorhomes and Class C rentals typically run about $200 per night, with most hosts offering 10 to 20 percent discounts on weekly and monthly stays. To find cheap RV rental Santa Ynez options, filter by travel trailer or campervan, book midweek, and aim for shoulder months like March or November when demand cools off but the valley is still gorgeous. Pro tip: pair a lower-priced trailer with a stay at Flying Flags in Buellton (under 10 miles away) for a wine country trip that feels luxurious without the resort hotel price tag.
visitsyv.com/things-to-do/rv-camping/Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Santa Ynez?
For the vast majority of RVs you can rent in Santa Ynez, your regular Class C driver's license is all you need. California only requires a noncommercial Class B license for motorhomes longer than 40 feet, and a noncommercial Class A for trailers over 10,000 pounds, which covers almost no listings on RVezy. You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID right in the booking flow. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit and you're set to rent an RV in Santa Ynez and explore the valley.
dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/recreational-vehicles-and-trailers-handbook-2011/license-classes-and-requirements/What protection and roadside coverage comes with my Santa Ynez RV rental?
Every RV rental in Santa Ynez booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 154 with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV, and you choose your coverage level (Standard, Special, or Supreme) during checkout to fit your trip and budget. This isn't traditional auto insurance, but it provides meaningful financial protection if something unexpected happens between the vineyards. Pro tip: take the included pickup walkthrough seriously and snap photos of the RV before you leave. Then point the rig toward Solvang and enjoy the trip knowing you're covered.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Santa Ynez RV trip?
Booking an RV rental in Santa Ynez is low risk because RVezy sets a standardized cancellation policy (not the host), and you can see the exact terms before you confirm. Cancellations made within 24 hours of booking, and at least 7 days before pickup, are fully refundable. After that grace period, refunds depend on how far out from pickup you cancel. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds you or helps rebook. Pro tip: book early for spring wildflower season at Figueroa Mountain, then relax knowing flexibility is built in and RVezy support is available before, during, and after your trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on my Santa Ynez RV trip?
Yes, plenty of pet-friendly RV rental Santa Ynez options are on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when searching and you'll see listings whose hosts welcome dogs. The Santa Ynez Valley is a dream for dog owners: Cachuma Lake Recreation Area allows leashed pets at most campsites, Nojoqui Falls County Park has dog-friendly trails just south of Solvang, and many tasting room patios in Los Olivos welcome well-behaved pups. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees, then plan a stop at the off-leash area at Arroyo Burro Beach in Santa Barbara for a tail-wagging finale.
countyofsb.org/637/Cachuma-LakeCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Santa Ynez?
Yes, RV delivery in Santa Ynez is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers nervous about driving Highway 154's curves over San Marcos Pass. Many local hosts will deliver and set up your motorhome rental right at Flying Flags in Buellton, Cachuma Lake, Rancho Oso, or even a private vineyard property, then walk you through everything from the awning to the water hookups. Filter listings by Delivery to see who offers it and the typical fee, which usually scales with distance. Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer if you're flying into Santa Barbara Airport, since you can rideshare straight to your campsite and skip city driving entirely.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Santa%20Ynez%2C%20CaliforniaHow does mileage work, and how far can I realistically drive from Santa Ynez?
Hosts set their own mileage policies on RVezy, and many Santa Ynez listings include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with some offering RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer trips. That's plenty for a classic Santa Ynez RV trip: Solvang is about 4 miles, Los Olivos and the Foxen Canyon Wine Trail about 8 to 10 miles, Santa Barbara is 35 miles south, and Pismo Beach is 55 miles north. Heading farther? Big Sur is roughly 180 to 200 miles up Highway 1, and Los Angeles is 130 miles south. Pro tip: check the listing's mileage details and message the host if you're planning a longer loop. Many will gladly bundle extra miles into your rate.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Santa%20Ynez%2C%20CaliforniaWhere are the best campgrounds near Santa Ynez for RVs?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping Santa Ynez. The best campgrounds near Santa Ynez include Flying Flags RV Resort in Buellton (resort-style with a pool and full hookups, walking distance to wineries), Cachuma Lake Recreation Area on Highway 154 (full-hookup sites with lake and mountain views), Rancho Oso RV & Camping Resort along the Santa Ynez River (Western-themed with horseback riding), and Sun Outdoors Santa Barbara (formerly Ocean Mesa) for ocean views near El Capitan. For a primitive escape, Figueroa Campground in Los Padres National Forest sits behind Los Olivos under live oaks. Pro tip: Cachuma's lakeview sites overlooking the Santa Ynez Mountains are some of the prettiest in California.
countyofsb.org/727/Tent-Trailer-RV-CampingWhen is the best time of year to visit Santa Ynez in an RV?
Almost any time works. Santa Ynez has a mild Mediterranean climate with highs ranging from the low 60s in winter to the mid 80s in summer, and snow is essentially nonexistent in the valley. Spring (March to May) brings green hills and wildflowers at Figueroa Mountain, fall (September to early November) is peak wine harvest with warm days and crisp nights, and summer is busiest with events like Solvang Danish Days. Winter is the local secret: mild, quiet, and great for cozy wine country trips. Pro tip: April or October hit the sweet spot of perfect weather, fewer crowds, and easier campground reservations.
weather.gov/lox/I've never rented an RV before. Is Santa Ynez a good place to start?
Absolutely. Santa Ynez is one of the friendlier spots in California for a first time renting an RV. Valley roads are gentle and rural, traffic is light compared to LA or the Bay Area, and campgrounds like Flying Flags and Cachuma Lake are set up for newcomers with pull-through sites and on-site staff. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering propane, water, slide-outs, and the dump procedure, and many also send a video reference. Pro tip: pick a smaller Class C or campervan rental Santa Ynez for your first trip, base yourself at one campground in Buellton or Solvang, and treat day trips to wineries as your adventure rather than moving the rig daily.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV on my trip?
You're never alone out there. Every RVezy booking with a protection plan includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so whether you've got a flat on Highway 154 heading toward Cachuma Lake or a propane issue at Rancho Oso, one phone call gets help dispatched. Your host is also typically your first text for quick questions like how to reset the inverter, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number and your host's contact in your phone before you leave the pickup location. Cell service is solid in the valley but gets spotty in the deeper canyons of Los Padres National Forest, so download offline maps too.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Santa Ynez RV rental on a longer road trip up or down the coast?
Yes, an RV road trip from Santa Ynez is one of California's all-time great drives. Heading south, you're 35 miles from Santa Barbara and about 130 miles from Los Angeles. Going north, Pismo Beach is 55 miles, San Luis Obispo is 70, and Big Sur is around 180 to 200 stunning coastal miles up Highway 1. Travel within the US is generally fine, but trips into Mexico are not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance does not extend across the border. Pro tip: message the host before booking if you're planning a one-way or multi-state route. Many will work with you on mileage and itinerary, especially for trips that stay on the iconic Pacific Coast Highway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and budget should I plan for?
Plan realistically and you won't be surprised. Class C motorhomes around Santa Ynez average 8 to 10 miles per gallon, campervans get 14 to 18, and a truck towing a travel trailer lands around 10 to 12. California gas prices run higher than the national average, typically around $4.50 to $5.00 per gallon in the valley, with stations in Buellton and Solvang on Highway 246 being your most convenient fill-ups. Pro tip: top off in Buellton before heading into Los Padres National Forest or up to Figueroa Mountain. The next reliable stations are 20+ miles back, and you'll want a full tank for the climb.
energy.ca.gov/data-reports/energy-almanac/transportation-energy/californias-gasoline-pricesHow far in advance should I book a campground near Santa Ynez?
For peak season weekends (May through September, plus holidays like Memorial Day and Labor Day), book your Santa Ynez campground 3 to 6 months ahead, especially for Cachuma Lake and Flying Flags. Cachuma Lake reservations are made through Santa Barbara County Parks at sbparks.org, and Los Padres National Forest sites like Figueroa and Paradise Campground go through Recreation.gov. Off-season (November to March) you can often snag a site a week or two out. Pro tip: midweek arrivals open up huge availability even in summer, and Sunday-to-Thursday stays are often cheaper. Lock in the campground first, then book your RV rental in Santa Ynez to match those exact dates.
countyofsb.org/727/Tent-Trailer-RV-CampingWhat are the local driving conditions like around Santa Ynez?
Driving in the Santa Ynez Valley is genuinely pleasant. Most routes are flat, two-lane country roads through vineyards and oak groves, with Highway 246 being the main east-west artery and Highway 154 the scenic route over San Marcos Pass to Santa Barbara. The 154 has some winding sections and a 7 percent grade at the pass, so take it slow in a larger motorhome and use lower gears descending. Watch for fog in early mornings near the coast and dense agricultural traffic during harvest (August to October). Pro tip: avoid Highway 154 in heavy rain since it occasionally closes for rock slides. Take Highway 101 through Gaviota Pass instead. It's longer but easier driving for an RV.
dot.ca.gov/travelWhat amenities can I expect at Santa Ynez area campgrounds?
Most campgrounds near Santa Ynez are well equipped for RVs. Flying Flags in Buellton and Sun Outdoors Santa Barbara offer full hookups (water, 30/50 amp electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, pools, and laundry. Cachuma Lake has a mix of full-hookup, partial (water and electric), and dry sites, plus a general store, fuel, dump station, and coin showers. Los Padres National Forest campgrounds like Figueroa and Paradise are more primitive: picnic tables, fire rings, and pit toilets, but no hookups. Dump stations near Santa Ynez are available at Cachuma Lake and Flying Flags. Pro tip: if you're staying somewhere primitive, fill fresh water and dump tanks at Cachuma Lake on your way in or out. The location is convenient and the fees are modest.
countyofsb.org/727/Tent-Trailer-RV-CampingWhat's inside a typical RV rental in Santa Ynez?
You'll be comfortable. Most RVs on RVezy in Santa Ynez sleep 4 to 8 people and come with a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with shower and toilet, climate-controlled bedrooms, dinette, and seatbelted seats for travel. Larger Class A and Class C motorhomes often add a generator for off-grid power, outdoor speakers, and a smart TV with streaming, while many campervans offer solar setups perfect for boondocking. Wi-Fi varies by host, but cell signal is reliable in the valley itself. Pro tip: use the RVezy listing filters to set your must-haves (sleeps, bathroom, generator, pet-friendly) so you only browse rigs that truly fit your group and trip style.
countyofsb.org/637/Cachuma-LakeWhat popular add-ons and pickup logistics should I know about?
RVezy hosts in Santa Ynez often offer add-ons that make the trip easier: camp chairs and tables, BBQ grills, generators, bedding and linen packages, bike racks, kitchen kits, and even pre-stocked propane. Fees are listed transparently on each listing, so you can mix and match what you need. Pickup is typically at the host's property in Buellton, Solvang, Santa Ynez, or Los Olivos, and most allow a flexible window during the day. Delivery to Flying Flags, Cachuma Lake, or your vacation rental is widely available too. Pro tip: ask for the linen and kitchen bundles for your first trip. They turn pickup into 'load groceries and go' instead of a Target run.
countyofsb.org/637/Cachuma-LakeHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure through RVezy. You'll pay for your booking with a credit card through the RVezy platform, and the host receives funds after your trip starts. A separate refundable security deposit is held by RVezy (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) and released after return, assuming no damage or extra cleaning is needed. Everything stays on the RVezy platform, so you never hand cash to the host. Pro tip: do a thorough walk-around with the host at pickup and dropoff and take time-stamped photos and a quick video. You'll avoid almost all deposit issues and head home from your Santa Ynez Valley RV trip stress-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I dump tanks and fill fresh water near Santa Ynez?
You've got convenient options. Cachuma Lake Recreation Area on Highway 154 has a public dump station and potable water fill available for a small fee, and Flying Flags RV Resort in Buellton offers dump services for guests (and sometimes non-guests for a fee). Rancho Oso along Paradise Road also has on-site dump and water. For a quick fill-up before leaving the valley, the Chevron and 76 stations in Buellton along Highway 246 are RV-friendly with high clearance. Pro tip: never dump gray or black water onto the ground anywhere in California. It's a fineable offense and harmful to the Santa Ynez River watershed, which feeds Cachuma Lake's drinking water supply.
