Very simple to book, reserve, communicate, meet-up, operate, return, etc. I would recommend to all! Perfect size RV and amenities for what I was looking for. Family of five. We had everything we needed, with nothing too fancy that may be difficult to operate or take away from the camping experience.

Wonderful across the board. The RV was clean, drove perfectly (mountains of Colorado and New Mexico), and was impeccably organized. They have clearly thought through all the things that might be needed on a long trip and made them easily accessible. The toilet cassette was easy to empty (particularly in a latrine -- 3-5 minutes with no mess). The refrigerator and cabinets have plenty of space and beds were comfortable. It was easy to stop and sleep overnight in parks. We were really pleased and would happily rent this RV again.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Buffalo Grove, IL

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Buffalo Grove, IL?

RV rental in Buffalo Grove is more affordable than most people expect, with daily rates typically ranging from about $90 to $175 for travel trailers and pop-ups, $150 to $250 for Class C motorhomes, and $250 to $400 for larger Class A coaches. Hosts in the northwest Chicago suburbs often discount weekly bookings, and shoulder-season trips in April, May, September, and October can save you 20-30% versus peak summer weekends. For a cheap RV rental in Buffalo Grove, filter by travel trailer or campervan, message hosts about midweek discounts, and lock in dates early for popular weekends like Memorial Day or Lake County festivals. Pro tip: booking a Sunday-to-Thursday window is the easiest way to stretch your budget.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Buffalo Grove?

Good news: for the vast majority of RV rentals in Buffalo Grove, your regular driver's license is all you need. Renters must be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy confirms ID right through the booking platform, so there's no DMV trip required. Illinois does have weight-based license classes for residents driving rigs over 16,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), but nearly every travel trailer, campervan, and Class C motorhome on the platform falls well under that threshold. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country along with your license. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple the paperwork really is.

You choose your level of coverage during checkout, and the plan covers most damage to the vehicle during your trip. If a tire blows on I-294 or the fridge stops cooling at Chain O'Lakes State Park, one phone call gets help dispatched any time, day or night. What is the cancellation policy if my plans change?

You have flexibility built in. RVezy sets a consistent cancellation policy for every booking, and there is a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in dates without worry. Refund amounts after the grace period depend on factors like how many days before the trip you cancel and whether a qualifying event affects your travel. Chicago-area weather can throw curveballs, especially in spring and late fall, so it is reassuring to know the policy is consistent platform-wide. Review the full details on the RVezy Help Center before booking, then reserve your Buffalo Grove RV trip with confidence.

Can I bring my dog on a Buffalo Grove RV trip?

Absolutely. Pet-friendly RV rental in Buffalo Grove is easy to find, just use the Pet-Friendly filter when you search and you'll see listings where hosts welcome dogs and sometimes cats. Once you arrive, you've got great options for furry adventurers: Buffalo Grove's own Willow Stream Park has off-leash hours, the nearby Lake County Forest Preserves like Independence Grove allow leashed pets on miles of trails, and Chain O' Lakes State Park welcomes dogs in campgrounds and on most trails. Pack a leash, vaccination records, and a tie-out for camp. Pro tip: message the host before booking if your dog is over 50 pounds, just to confirm fit and bedding preferences.

Can the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway?

Yes, RV delivery in Buffalo Grove is one of the most popular options on the platform, and it is a game-changer for first-time renters. Many local hosts will drive the motorhome or travel trailer directly to Chain O'Lakes State Park, Illinois Beach State Park, Camp Reinberg, or even your own driveway in Buffalo Grove, Arlington Heights, or Lincolnshire. They will level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Just use the Delivery filter when searching, and check each host's delivery radius and per-mile fee on the listing. It is the smoothest way to skip the stress of towing a big rig through suburban streets.

How far can I drive, and what are mileage policies like?

You've got plenty of road ahead. Hosts set their own mileage policies on RVezy, and many Buffalo Grove listings include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with additional miles available at a per-mile rate (typically $0.35 to $0.50). Some hosts even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is great for longer hauls. From Buffalo Grove you can reach Starved Rock State Park in about 1.5 hours, the Wisconsin Dells in 2.5 hours, Indiana Dunes National Park in about 1.75 hours, and Door County, Wisconsin, in roughly 4 hours. Pro tip: map your full route before booking and ask the host for a custom mileage package if you're planning a longer RV road trip from Buffalo Grove.

Where are the best campgrounds near Buffalo Grove for an RV trip?

You are spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Buffalo Grove are an easy drive away and cover every camping style. Chain O'Lakes State Park in Spring Grove (about 35 minutes north) offers more than 230 sites along Illinois' largest concentration of natural lakes, with Class A Premium electric sites available for reservation. Camp Reinberg in Palatine, run by the Forest Preserves of Cook County, is just 15 minutes away and great for a quick getaway. Illinois Beach State Park in Zion sits on Lake Michigan about 45 minutes east, while Chicago Northwest KOA in Union and Fish Lake Beach Camping Resort in Volo round out the local favorites. Reserve early for summer weekends.

When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Buffalo Grove?

Late May through early October is prime time for RV camping in Buffalo Grove, with June and September often hitting the sweet spot for mild weather and smaller crowds. Summer highs typically run 78-85°F with warm nights perfect for campfires, while spring and fall swing between 45°F and 70°F, ideal for hiking trails at Ryerson Conservation Area. Winter camping is possible but limited, since most area campgrounds close from late October through April and temperatures regularly fall below freezing December through February. Local insider tip: book a late-September trip to catch peak fall colors along the Fox River with cooler nights and zero mosquitoes.

I have never rented an RV before. Will I know what I am doing?

Yes, and most first-time renters in Buffalo Grove tell us it was easier than they imagined. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup or delivery, walking you through the generator, propane, slide-outs, water systems, dump procedure, and driving tips for your specific rig. You can message your host with questions before booking, and RVezy customer support and 24/7 roadside assistance are a phone call away during your trip. For your first time renting an RV, choose a smaller Class C motorhome or campervan rental in Buffalo Grove and pick a nearby campground like Camp Reinberg in Palatine for a low-stress shakedown trip before tackling a longer route.

What happens if something breaks down on the road?

You are never alone out there. Every motorhome rental in Buffalo Grove booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering things like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. If you run into trouble on I-90, Route 53, or a back road in McHenry County, one call gets professional help dispatched. Your host is also a great first text, since they know their RV's quirks better than anyone. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN, plates, and roadside assistance number on day one so it is instantly handy if you need it. Most trips finish without a single hiccup.

Can I take my Buffalo Grove RV rental across state lines or into Canada?

Yes, interstate road trips are absolutely allowed. Most Buffalo Grove hosts welcome travel across the Midwest, so you can easily plan a Wisconsin Dells loop, an Indiana Dunes weekend, or a longer Michigan Upper Peninsula adventure. Cross-border travel into Canada may be permitted depending on the specific host and insurance setup, so message the host directly from the listing before booking if Canada is on your itinerary. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Popular interstate routes include Buffalo Grove to Lake Geneva (1 hour), to Door County (4 hours), and to Mackinaw City (6 hours). Confirm your route with the host and roll.

What kind of fuel mileage should I budget for?

Budgeting for fuel is easier than you'd think. Travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves; you only pay for what your tow vehicle uses (typically 10-14 MPG). Class B campervans average 18-22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get 8-12 MPG, and big Class A coaches run about 6-9 MPG. With Illinois regular gas averaging around $5.00 per gallon in the Chicago metro in 2026 (Lake County trends slightly higher), a 300-mile weekend in a Class C will cost roughly $125-$190 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in DuPage or Will County on your way out of town, where prices often run 30-50 cents cheaper than Cook or Lake County stations.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/

How far in advance should I book a campground?

For peak summer weekends near Buffalo Grove, book your campground 3 to 6 months ahead, especially for state parks. Illinois state park reservations (including Chain O' Lakes and Illinois Beach) are handled through the ExploreMoreIL system at camp.exploremoreil.com or by calling 866-716-6550, and Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day weekends fill almost as soon as they open. Cook County Forest Preserve campgrounds like Camp Reinberg book through the Forest Preserves of Cook County website. For midweek trips and shoulder season (late April-May, September-October), you can often find sites just 2-3 weeks out. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for the day reservations open six months ahead.
dnr.illinois.gov/parks/camp.html

What are local driving conditions like around Buffalo Grove?

Driving an RV around Buffalo Grove is very manageable, with mostly flat terrain and well-maintained suburban roads, but a few local tips will set you up for success. The Chicago metro has heavy rush-hour traffic on I-294, I-90, and Route 53, so plan to leave Buffalo Grove before 6:30 a.m. or after 10 a.m. heading out, and avoid returning on Sunday afternoons. Watch for low railroad underpasses on older routes like Lake Cook Road; stick to interstates and state highways when possible. Winter brings snow and ice from December through March, which is why most rentals are summer-season only. For city escapes, head north to Wisconsin or west toward Starved Rock to skip Chicago traffic entirely.
idot.illinois.gov/travel-information/road-conditions/roadway-information.html

What amenities should I expect at campgrounds near Buffalo Grove?

Local campgrounds offer a solid range of amenities. Chain O' Lakes State Park has Class A Premium sites with electric hookups, modern shower buildings, a dump station near the entrance, and a concession stand open April through mid-October selling firewood, ice, and supplies. Illinois Beach State Park provides electric sites, showers, and beach access on Lake Michigan. Private parks like Fish Lake Beach Camping Resort and Chicago Northwest KOA add full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50-amp electric), Wi-Fi, pools, and laundry. Most state-park sites do not have sewer at the site, so plan a stop at the dump station before heading home. Pro tip: fill your fresh tank before leaving the campground since potable fill stations are limited along Lake County highways.
dnr.illinois.gov/parks/park.chainolakes.html

What's actually inside a typical Buffalo Grove RV rental?

More than you'd expect. A typical motorhome rental in Buffalo Grove comes fully equipped with sleeping for 4-8 people (queen bed, bunks, and convertible dinette), a kitchen with fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with furnace and A/C, and seatbelted seating for everyone traveling. Most listings include a TV, and many add a generator for boondocking, an outdoor speaker, and a backup camera. Wi-Fi varies by host and is often hotspot-based, so confirm in the listing if you're working remotely. Travel trailers and fifth wheels include the same living amenities; you just supply the tow vehicle (or rent a drivable instead).
nhtsa.gov/equipment/recreational-vehicles

What add-ons and pickup options should I look for when booking?

Hosts in Buffalo Grove offer a long list of add-ons that can make your trip easier. Common extras include linen and bedding packages ($30-$75), kitchen kits with cookware and dishes ($25-$50), camp chairs and outdoor tables, portable generators, bike racks, propane fire pits, and pet packages. Delivery and setup is the most popular add-on, especially for first-time renters, and many hosts will drop the rig at Chain O' Lakes or Illinois Beach State Park. Standard pickup is usually between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., with drop-off by 11 a.m. Check each listing's mileage allowance, generator-hours policy, and cleaning fee before booking. Pro tip: bundling delivery plus a linen kit often saves more than booking them separately.

How does payment and the security deposit work?

Payment is simple and fully handled through the RVezy platform, no cash, no awkward host transactions. When you book your RV rental in Buffalo Grove, you will pay the trip total securely online, and the host receives funds after pickup. A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) is placed as a hold on your card a few days before the trip and released after a successful return. To avoid any deposit issues, do a walk-around video with your host at pickup and drop-off, return the RV with the agreed fuel level and propane, and dump the tanks if your host's terms require it. Document everything in the RVezy app and you are set.
