Very simple to book, reserve, communicate, meet-up, operate, return, etc. I would recommend to all! Perfect size RV and amenities for what I was looking for. Family of five. We had everything we needed, with nothing too fancy that may be difficult to operate or take away from the camping experience.

Wonderful across the board. The RV was clean, drove perfectly (mountains of Colorado and New Mexico), and was impeccably organized. They have clearly thought through all the things that might be needed on a long trip and made them easily accessible. The toilet cassette was easy to empty (particularly in a latrine -- 3-5 minutes with no mess). The refrigerator and cabinets have plenty of space and beds were comfortable. It was easy to stop and sleep overnight in parks. We were really pleased and would happily rent this RV again.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Gurnee, IL

How much does an RV rental in Gurnee cost?

An RV rental in Gurnee fits a wide range of budgets. On RVezy, travel trailers near Gurnee typically start around $90 to $150 per night, campervans run roughly $125 to $200, and larger Class A or Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $350 per night depending on size and season. You will see the all-in price (nightly rate, service fee, and protection package) before you confirm, so there are no surprises. For a cheap RV rental in Gurnee, book midweek, target shoulder seasons (April or late September), and filter for travel trailers with delivery so you skip the tow vehicle. Pro tip: families heading to Six Flags Great America often save the most by booking a delivered trailer and parking at a nearby campground instead of a hotel.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Gurnee?

For the vast majority of RVs you will rent in Gurnee, a regular driver's license is all you need. Illinois uses weight-based classes, but RVezy listings in the Gurnee area are overwhelmingly travel trailers, campervans, and Class C motorhomes under 16,000 pounds GVWR, which any standard Class D license covers. Approved drivers must be 25 or older and upload a clear photo of their license during booking, which RVezy verifies for you. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home-country license. If you are eyeing a very large Class A, message the host from the listing to confirm the weight and licensing requirements.

What protection comes with my Gurnee RV rental?

You are covered from the moment you book. Every RV rental in Gurnee on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are not on your own if something happens on I-94 or out at Chain O'Lakes State Park. During checkout you choose your protection level, which adjusts your deductible and coverage limits for most damage to the vehicle. This is not traditional auto insurance, but it provides real financial peace of mind for the trip. Pro tip: if it is your first time renting an RV, choose a higher-tier plan for the lowest deductible. You will drive away relaxed, knowing a flat tire near Gurnee Mills or a fender bump in a tight campground loop is handled.

What if I need to cancel my Gurnee RV trip?

Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets a clear, platform-wide cancellation policy (hosts do not write their own), and every booking includes a money-back grace period right after you reserve, so you have time to double-check dates and plans. After that, your refund depends on how far out you cancel and the circumstances. You will see the full policy at checkout and in your booking confirmation. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best Gurnee RVs for Six Flags weekends or Country Thunder in nearby Twin Lakes, then finalize your route, knowing you have a window to adjust.

Can I bring my dog on a Gurnee RV rental?

Yes, plenty of pet-friendly RV rental options in Gurnee welcome your dog. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see motorhomes and trailers from hosts who allow pets (some charge a small cleaning fee, shown on the listing). Lake County is great for four-legged campers: Independence Grove Forest Preserve in Libertyville has leashed-dog trails, Van Patten Woods near Wadsworth has miles of wooded paths, and Illinois Beach State Park in Zion allows leashed dogs in designated areas along Lake Michigan. Pro tip: pack a long lead, a collapsible water bowl, and current vaccination records, most Illinois state park campgrounds ask to see proof at check-in.

Can the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Gurnee?

Yes, RV delivery in Gurnee is one of the easiest ways to start your trip. Many RVezy hosts will tow a travel trailer or fifth wheel right to your campsite at Illinois Beach State Park in Zion, Chain O'Lakes State Park, or a driveway in Gurnee, then level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system. Filter for Delivery on the search page to see hosts who offer it and their per-mile rate (typically $2 to $4 per mile from their location). This is the move for first-timers, anyone without a tow vehicle, or families flying into O'Hare or Milwaukee Mitchell. Pro tip: book delivery to your campground so your whole trip is car-based and stress-free.

Where are the best campgrounds near Gurnee?

You are spoiled for choice within a 30-minute drive. Illinois Beach State Park in Zion offers RV sites with electric hookups and direct Lake Michigan beach access, about 15 minutes from Gurnee. Chain O'Lakes State Park in Spring Grove has multiple loops with electric sites, boat rentals, and great paddling. KOA Chicago Northwest in Union has full hookups, a pool, and mini-golf, perfect for families. Just over the Wisconsin border, Big Foot Beach State Park on Geneva Lake is a scenic 35-minute drive. For RV camping in Gurnee with full hookups, Fish Lake Beach Camping Resort in Volo is a local favorite. Pro tip: Illinois state park sites release six months out on the Camp Illinois system, set a reminder for summer weekends.

When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Gurnee?

Late May through early October is prime time, with a sweet spot in September. Summer (June to August) brings highs of 80 to 88 F and warm Lake Michigan beach days, great for Illinois Beach State Park and Six Flags trips, though weekends book up fast. Spring (April to May) sees 55 to 70 F days with blooming forest preserves and far fewer crowds. September and early October are the local insider pick: 65 to 75 F afternoons, cool sleeping weather, and brilliant fall color around Chain O'Lakes and the Des Plaines River Trail. Winter RVing is possible but most campgrounds close from late October through April. Pro tip: book a shoulder-season Gurnee RV trip and you will often save versus peak July rates.

I have never rented an RV before. Will I be able to handle it?

You have got this, and you will not be figuring it out alone. First time renting an RV in Gurnee? Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup (or at delivery) covering the generator, water hookups, slide-outs, dump procedure, and driving tips, usually 30 to 60 minutes. You can also message hosts before booking with any question, big or small. For your first trip, pick a Class C motorhome or a delivered travel trailer; both drive like a large van or stay stationary at your site. Pro tip: for your maiden voyage, book a campground close to home like Illinois Beach State Park (15 minutes from Gurnee) so you are not battling Chicago traffic on day one while learning the rig.

What happens if something breaks down during my Gurnee RV trip?

Help is one phone call away, 24/7. Every RV rental in Gurnee on RVezy comes with around-the-clock roadside assistance as part of the included protection plan, covering tire changes, jump starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to a qualified service center. Your host is also a direct resource, they know the rig best and can troubleshoot a finicky water pump or AC over text in minutes. RVezy's support team is available before, during, and after your trip if anything escalates. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before you leave the driveway, and snap a quick photo of the RV's VIN and license plate, it speeds things up if you ever need a tow off I-94 or near Six Flags.

What are popular RV road trip routes from Gurnee?

Gurnee is a launchpad for some of the Midwest's best RV road trips. Head north 60 miles to Milwaukee for lakefront breweries, then continue to Door County (about 230 miles) for cherry orchards and Peninsula State Park. Drive east 90 miles to Indiana Dunes National Park for towering Lake Michigan dunes. Go northwest 35 miles to Lake Geneva, WI, then loop through Wisconsin's Kettle Moraine State Forest. For a bigger adventure, an RV road trip from Gurnee to Wisconsin Dells (170 miles) or Mackinaw City, MI (400 miles) is doable in a week. Cross-border travel into Wisconsin and Indiana is fully covered, just note that travel to Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals. Pro tip: avoid Friday afternoon I-94 northbound; leave Thursday night or Saturday morning.
nps.gov/indu/index.htm

What should I budget for fuel on a Gurnee RV trip?

Fuel is easier to plan than you might think. Expect 7 to 10 miles per gallon for a Class A, 10 to 14 mpg for a Class C, 16 to 20 mpg for a campervan, and your tow vehicle's normal mpg minus 30 to 40 percent if you are pulling a travel trailer. Gas in the Gurnee area generally runs slightly above the national average, and you will find cheaper fuel just over the state line in Wisconsin (Pleasant Prairie is 15 minutes north and often less per gallon). For a 3-night trip with 300 miles of driving in a Class C, budget roughly $120 to $180 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Wisconsin on your way back from any northbound trip, your wallet will thank you.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/

How far in advance should I book a campground near Gurnee?

Book early and you will get exactly the site you want. Illinois state park campgrounds, including Chain O'Lakes and Illinois Beach, open reservations six months in advance through the Camp Illinois system, and prime summer weekends (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day) often fill within hours. Wisconsin state parks like Big Foot Beach release sites 11 months out via Wisconsin DNR. Private parks like KOA Chicago Northwest and Fish Lake Beach in Volo typically need 2 to 6 weeks lead time for summer weekends, and same-week midweek availability is usually fine. Pro tip: line up your campground reservation before you book the RV; that way you can match RV size to the site's length limit (often 40 to 50 feet).

What are driving conditions like around Gurnee?

Driving an RV around Gurnee is very manageable: the terrain is flat, elevations sit between 580 and 780 feet, and roads are wide. The main thing to know: I-94 (the Tri-State Tollway) and I-294 toward Chicago get heavy stop-and-go traffic on weekday rush hours (7 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m.) and Friday evenings in summer. Use the Illinois Tollway's I-PASS or pay-by-plate system, your host will tell you how the RV is set up. Watch your height (most overpasses clear 13 feet 6 inches or more). Winter brings snow and ice from December through March. Pro tip: avoid driving into downtown Chicago in any RV over 25 feet; instead, park at a forest preserve and take Metra's North Central line from Grayslake. Leave Gurnee before 6 a.m. or after 10 a.m. to dodge Tri-State congestion when heading south.
