Wonderful across the board. The RV was clean, drove perfectly (mountains of Colorado and New Mexico), and was impeccably organized. They have clearly thought through all the things that might be needed on a long trip and made them easily accessible. The toilet cassette was easy to empty (particularly in a latrine -- 3-5 minutes with no mess). The refrigerator and cabinets have plenty of space and beds were comfortable. It was easy to stop and sleep overnight in parks. We were really pleased and would happily rent this RV again.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Long Grove, IL

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Long Grove, IL?

RV rental in Long Grove is an affordable way to explore the Chicago suburbs and the Great Lakes region. Expect roughly $75 to $150 per night for a campervan or small travel trailer, and $150 to $275 per night for a Class C motorhome that sleeps the whole family. Weekly bookings often unlock host discounts that lower your nightly rate. To find a cheap RV rental in Long Grove, search midweek dates outside summer holidays, filter by travel trailers (typically the budget pick), and message hosts about multi-night deals. Booking 4 to 6 weeks ahead for July and August locks in the best inventory before Chicago festival season.

What license do I need to rent an RV in Long Grove?

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Long Grove, IL. Illinois does not require a special endorsement or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for any motorhome or travel trailer you will find on RVezy, including large Class A rigs. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during checkout, so there is no paperwork at pickup. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association. Once your ID is confirmed, your host handles the rest with a full walkthrough at pickup.

Is my RV rental in Long Grove protected if something goes wrong?

Yes, every RVezy booking in Long Grove automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road with peace of mind. The protection plan covers most damage to the vehicle during your trip, which means a stray branch on a Lake County back road or a minor scrape at a tight campground site won't ruin your vacation. During checkout you choose from multiple protection tiers, letting you select the coverage level that fits your trip and budget. It is purpose-built for peer-to-peer RV rentals and gives you a clear safety net from pickup to drop-off.

What is the cancellation policy if my Long Grove RV trip plans change?

Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every RV rental in Long Grove, so the rules are consistent no matter which rig you choose. There is a money-back grace period right after booking, and additional protections apply in situations like severe weather or natural disasters, which matters in Illinois where summer storms and winter blizzards can shift travel plans fast. The exact refund depends on how far in advance you cancel, so review the full details on the RVezy Help Center before you book. You can reserve your Long Grove RV trip with confidence knowing flexibility is built in.

Can I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Long Grove?

Absolutely, many hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental in Long Grove and the surrounding Lake County suburbs. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see rigs that welcome dogs (and sometimes cats), and the listing will show any cleaning fee or pet deposit up front so there are no surprises. Your pup will love the area too: Prairie Wolf Dog Park in Lake Forest offers off-leash trails just 10 minutes from Long Grove, and most Lake County Forest Preserves allow leashed dogs on miles of paved paths. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl and a familiar blanket for the RV so your dog settles in fast on night one.

Can the RV be delivered to me in Long Grove?

Yes, RV delivery in Long Grove is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters who don't want to drive a big rig out of a residential driveway. Many local hosts will deliver a motorhome or travel trailer directly to your home, a nearby campground like Chain O'Lakes State Park, or a festival site, then set up the awning, level the rig, connect hookups, and walk you through every system. Delivery fees are usually based on mileage from the host's location and are listed clearly on each listing. Filter by Delivery on RVezy, message the host with your address, and you can skip the driving entirely.

How does mileage work and how far can I drive on a Long Grove RV trip?

Mileage on RVezy is set per listing, and you'll see the daily allowance (or RV rental with unlimited mileage option) clearly on each rig before booking. Many Long Grove hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per day, with additional miles available at a small per-mile rate, while some offer truly unlimited mileage which is gold for longer road trips. From Long Grove you're well-positioned: Starved Rock State Park is about 100 miles southwest, Lake Geneva, WI is just 50 miles north, the Indiana Dunes National Park is about 70 miles east, and Door County, WI runs roughly 240 miles up the lake. Estimate your total route mileage before booking and pick the policy that matches.

Where are the best campgrounds near Long Grove, IL?

You've got fantastic options for RV camping in Long Grove and the surrounding area, all within an easy drive. Chain O'Lakes State Park in Spring Grove (about 25 miles northwest) offers electric hookups along the Fox River chain. Illinois Beach State Park in Zion (35 miles northeast) puts you right on Lake Michigan with 30/50 amp sites and lakefront trails. Chicago Northwest KOA in Union (45 miles west) has full hookups, a pool, and family-friendly amenities. Blackwell Forest Preserve in Warrenville (35 miles south) is a Forest Preserve District of DuPage County gem with electric sites and lake access. Reserve summer weekends 4 to 6 months ahead through the Illinois DNR's Camp Illinois system, especially for July and August.

When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Long Grove?

Late May through early October is the sweet spot for a Long Grove RV trip, with daytime highs ranging from 70 to 85 F and warm Lake Michigan breezes. June and September are arguably the best months: lower humidity than peak July/August, fewer mosquitoes, and easier campground reservations. Fall (late September to mid-October) brings spectacular color along the Fox River Valley and through the Lake County forest preserves. Winter RVing is possible too if you book a rig with a furnace and heated tanks, with January lows averaging around 15 to 20 F. Spring shoulder season (April to mid-May) can be wet but offers the cheapest rates and wide-open availability.

I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving it around Long Grove?

You're going to be fine, and you're not alone: first time renting an RV is the most common scenario on RVezy. Every host provides a full walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to drive, level, hook up, dump, and operate every system, and they're a phone call away during your whole trip. Long Grove itself is suburban with wide roads and easy access to I-94, IL-53, and US-12, which makes leaving town much less stressful than driving out of downtown Chicago. If city driving makes you nervous, choose delivery and let the host bring the RV to your campground. Start with a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer for the easiest learning curve.

What happens if I have a breakdown or flat tire during my trip?

You are covered: every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you are parked in Long Grove or pulled over on I-90 heading to Wisconsin. The service handles flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified service center. Your host is also your direct contact for questions about the rig's specific systems and can usually troubleshoot quickly by phone or text. Save the RVezy roadside number and your host's contact in your phone before you leave the driveway, and snap photos of the rig at pickup so any issues are documented.

Can I take my Long Grove RV rental across state lines or into Canada?

Yes, multi-state RV road trips from Long Grove are extremely popular and allowed on most RVezy rentals. Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, and Iowa are all easy reaches, and many guests build loops through the Great Lakes or down to the Smokies. Cross-border travel into Canada is sometimes permitted depending on the specific host and the protection package, so message the host directly through the listing before booking if Canada is part of your itinerary, they'll confirm what's allowed. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because protection coverage doesn't extend there. Popular routes from Long Grove include Door County WI, Mackinac Island MI, and the Indiana Dunes lakeshore.

What about fuel costs and MPG for an RV road trip from Long Grove?

Budget realistically and your trip stays stress-free. Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes average 10 to 14 mpg, and larger Class A rigs run 7 to 10 mpg. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle but expect a 25 to 35 percent drop in mpg while towing. Illinois gas prices generally sit above the national average, often in the $3.50 to $4.20 per gallon range, so fill up just over the Wisconsin border on northbound trips or in Indiana heading east for noticeable savings. A weekend RV camping trip from Long Grove to Lake Geneva (about 100 miles round trip) usually runs $30 to $60 in fuel for most rigs.

How far ahead should I book a campground for my RV camping in Long Grove?

For the best campgrounds near Long Grove, reserve early: Illinois state park sites (Chain O'Lakes, Illinois Beach, Starved Rock) open on Camp Illinois, the state's official reservation system, and summer weekends fill within days of going live, often six months out. Lake County and DuPage County Forest Preserve campgrounds can be booked through their county websites, typically 3 to 4 months in advance. Private parks like Chicago Northwest KOA and Fish Lake Beach Camping Resort tend to have more flexibility but still sell out for July 4th and Labor Day. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) almost always have openings even in peak season, and the campgrounds are noticeably quieter.

What are driving conditions like around Long Grove and the Chicago area?

Long Grove sits in a sweet spot: you get easy suburban roads without the chaos of downtown Chicago. The village itself has quiet two-lane roads and historic covered bridge access (mind the 9-foot clearance on the Robert Parker Coffin Road bridge, definitely route around it in any tall RV). I-294, I-94, and the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) all run nearby and tolls are collected electronically via I-PASS or pay-by-plate, no booths to stop at. Avoid downtown Chicago's Lower Wacker and parkway routes, which have low clearances. Winter trips need extra caution December through February when lake-effect snow can blow in fast. Otherwise, terrain is flat and friendly for new RV drivers.

What amenities do campgrounds near Long Grove offer for RVs?

You'll find well-equipped campgrounds throughout the area. Most Illinois state park campgrounds (including Chain O'Lakes and Illinois Beach) offer 30/50 amp electric hookups, potable water fill stations, and centralized dump stations, plus modern shower buildings and flush toilets. Private resorts like Chicago Northwest KOA and Fish Lake Beach add full hookups (water, electric, sewer at the site), Wi-Fi, pools, and laundry. Lake County Forest Preserve campgrounds tend to be more rustic with electric-only sites. Most parks have a dedicated dump station near the exit, and free fresh water fill is standard. Pro tip: download the Sanidumps or Campendium app before your Long Grove RV trip to find dump stations along your route, including the convenient one at Blackwell Forest Preserve.

Long Grove motorhome rentals come ready to roll. Expect a queen or king bed in the main sleeping area, convertible dinette and sofa beds, a kitchen with a propane stove, microwave, fridge/freezer, sink, and basic cookware, plus a full bathroom with toilet, shower, and sink. Most Class C motorhomes seat 6 to 8 with seatbelts, while campervan rental in Long Grove options (Class B Sprinters and similar) sleep 2 to 4 with compact but clever layouts. Many rigs include air conditioning, a furnace, a TV, a generator or solar setup, and a power awning. Wi-Fi is usually BYO via your phone hotspot. Check each listing's amenity list, and message the host if a specific feature is a must-have.

What add-ons and pickup options can I expect from Long Grove hosts?

Mileage policies vary: some include 100 to 150 free miles per day with overage at $0.30 to $0.50 per mile, while others offer unlimited mileage. How do payments and security deposits work when I rent an RV in Long Grove?

Payment is simple and secure: you book directly through RVezy with a credit or debit card, and the platform handles all money transfers, no cash or e-transfers to the host. Your total is split into a deposit at booking and the remaining balance closer to your trip date, all visible on the listing before you confirm. A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) is pre-authorized on your card around pickup and released after drop-off, assuming the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid holds on your deposit, take time-stamped photos at pickup and drop-off, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and empty the tanks at a dump station before returning if required.
