Very simple to book, reserve, communicate, meet-up, operate, return, etc. I would recommend to all! Perfect size RV and amenities for what I was looking for. Family of five. We had everything we needed, with nothing too fancy that may be difficult to operate or take away from the camping experience.

Wonderful across the board. The RV was clean, drove perfectly (mountains of Colorado and New Mexico), and was impeccably organized. They have clearly thought through all the things that might be needed on a long trip and made them easily accessible. The toilet cassette was easy to empty (particularly in a latrine -- 3-5 minutes with no mess). The refrigerator and cabinets have plenty of space and beds were comfortable. It was easy to stop and sleep overnight in parks. We were really pleased and would happily rent this RV again.

What license do I need to rent an RV in Winthrop Harbor, IL?

Great news for first-time renters: a regular driver"s license is all you need to rent an RV in Illinois, even for a large Class A motorhome. Illinois does not require a Commercial Driver"s License (CDL) for personal RV use, regardless of size. To book on RVezy you generally need to be 25 or older and verify your ID through the platform during checkout, which usually takes just a few minutes. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto association. That is it, you are cleared to cruise Sheridan Road up to the Wisconsin state line.

Is RV rental insurance and roadside assistance included for my Winthrop Harbor trip?

Yes, every RV rental in Winthrop Harbor booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road with peace of mind. What if I need to cancel my Winthrop Harbor RV booking?

Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in dates with confidence. Refund amounts after that window depend on how far out from your trip you cancel, and RVezy has accommodations for events like natural disasters, which is reassuring given that Lake County winter storms or summer thunderstorms occasionally roll off Lake Michigan. If a host cancels, RVezy issues a refund or travel credit to the guest. You can review the full cancellation policy on the RVezy Help Center before checkout, then reserve that Illinois Beach State Park weekend with confidence.

Illinois gas prices typically run 20 to 40 cents higher than Wisconsin's, so locals often fill up across the state line in Pleasant Prairie or Kenosha (just 10 miles north). What's driving an RV like around Winthrop Harbor?

Easy, honestly, Winthrop Harbor is one of the most beginner-friendly RV launch points in the Chicago metro. Roads are flat, Sheridan Road and Highway 41 are wide, and most campgrounds are within a 30-minute drive. Avoid driving south on I-94 toward Chicago during weekday rush hour (3 to 7 PM) when traffic stacks up near Gurnee. Watch for low clearance under the Metra rail bridge on 17th Street if you're in a tall Class A (most are 11 to 13 feet, check your rig's height). Lake-effect snow can hit hard November through March, so winter renters should plan extra time. Pro tip: Six Flags Great America traffic on summer Saturdays is brutal, leave before 10 AM.

Richard Bong State Recreation Area across the border offers similar amenities plus 50-amp options at some sites. Pro tip: bring a 50-foot freshwater hose and a 30-amp adapter, the spigot at Illinois Beach can be a hike from your site.

How do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment is straightforward and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host in cash. Bookings are typically paid in installments, with a portion collected at booking and the balance before your trip. The host sets a refundable security deposit (commonly $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV class), which is held separately from your booking payment and released after the trip assuming the rig comes back in the same condition. To avoid any deposit issues, do a thorough walkaround at pickup with the host, take date-stamped photos and a short video, and return with the fuel and propane levels you started with.

Can I rent an RV in Winthrop Harbor in winter?

Yes, winter rentals are available and can be magical along the Lake Michigan shore, think snow-dusted dunes and quiet trails at Illinois Beach State Park's north unit. Winters here are cold (December through February highs of 28 to 36°F, lows in the teens), so look for four-season RVs with heated holding tanks, an enclosed underbelly, a strong furnace, and shore-power capability. Fewer campgrounds run full hookups in winter; many RVers stay at private parks with year-round sites or use driveway/shore-power setups arranged with the host. Pro tip: book a delivered travel trailer parked on a host's property or at a private full-hookup park, then day-trip to Lake Geneva for ice fishing or to Milwaukee's holiday markets. Adventure awaits.
